Abstract
Due to the changeable state of language, it sometimes seems different two words are doing the same function, coevally. In the present korean, {-i} and {-ge} can be the representative example of it. But, even though they seem to be quite similar, they are not identical completely. This study was used to find a clue of their verification through scrutinizing the historical change of {-i} and {-ge}'. This prologue is going to introduce the structure of this dissertation. In chapter Ⅱ, it used the method to look into the process of historical change demarcating its bases, combined with verb and adjective. In the late medieval korean, about the adjective of psychology and sensitivity among the branches of subjective adjective, {-i} was even more popular than {-ge}. ople rarely used {-ge} at that time. Usage of {-ge} was limited to '-ge hada.' After the ages of the modem korean, usage of {-ge} was suddenly got so popular. In the present korean, {-ge} is used frequently. On the other hand, the use of {-i} is restricted to some expressions with a few verbs like 'see'. But the adjective of judgement, a branch of the subjective adjective, is dealing with the combined expression of (-1} a lot after the modem age; in this case, the idiom of {-i} is more popular than the idiom of {-ge}, even in the present day. In the matter of objective adjective, as the adjective of characteristic and transference, {-i} is mainly used and {-ge} was hardly found until the late middle ages. But, after the age of the modem korean, the expression of {-ge} came to be expanded its use from the idiom, '-ge hada'. The time for the 2nd-person pronoun was little bit earlier. The usage of {-ge} started to be active from the late middle ages. The verbs of the late middle ages, were become adverbs generally, with its base being added to {-o}. However, exceptionally, there were some verbs which were united with {-i}, and they were disappeared on a sudden during the late middle ages. It's considered, maybe, to be because of the productive expansion of the usage of {-i} for the age of the late middle korean. In addition, it discovered a particular use of {-ge}, welded with the base of verb, like '-ge hada' which has the function of causative. From here, we can offer the possibility of the attribute of completing something. At chapter Ⅲ, it looked into the change of the range of meanings of {-i} and {-ge}. At first, from the process of being expanded of the range of meaning of {-ge}, {-ge} which was started from the causative phrase, is also being used for the passive phrase. And it also creates the meaning of the level of intensiveness with some bases of adjective. It showed that adjectives dealing with the speaker's attitude like the adjective of color or sensibility cannot be bound together with {-i}. There are the branches which were replaced with {-ge} early in the late middle. It is impossible for a subject to dominate to the range of the subjective psychological phenomenon, because it is too subjective. This feature seems to make {-ge}, which newly appeared, meaning causativeness, welded with the causative sentence which is able to be harmonious. There is another kind of adjective which is not combined with {-i}, that's the adjective of standards of negative aspect. Those adjectives are coming closer toward a certain touchstone, as its expression is getting stronger. In the late middle ages, {-i} used to have the features of the gradation of expression and the completeness of the object, but the latter one was disappeared as time goes by, therefore it became impossible that {-i} is used with the adjective of standards. Chapter Ⅳ concluded this study. There is certain rules for a morph to replace for another. Through investigate the process of change, we can foresee the trace of a morph in coming days
