Charles Valentin Alkan의 「Douze Etude Op.39」에 관한 연구

Abstract

19세기 피아노 연주자의 어떤 학파에도 속하지 않은 알칸(Charles-Valentin Alkan 1813-1888)은 기이하며 염세적인 프랑스의 피아니스트이자 작곡가이다. 19세기를 이끈 명기적인 연주자였고 주로 피아노 작품만을 작곡하였지만 은둔자적인 사람으로 인해 동시대인인 쇼팽, 리스트와는 달리 대중들에게 잊혀 지냈다. 본 논문에서는 알칸의 생애를 통해서 그의 유대인적 환경과 동시대인과의 교류를 통해 작품에 끼친 영향을 연구하면 그의 음악에 나타나는 선율, 화성, 리듬, 대위법등의 세부적인 특징을 알아본 후 알칸의 많은 피아노 작품중에서 유명한 피아노 모음곡 「Douze Etude Op.39」을 연구 하였다. 이곡은 Symphony, Concerto, Overture, Variation의 장르를 사용하였다. 그 중 가장 유명한 12번, “Le festin d'Esope"은 25개의 변주곡으로서 최대한의 간단한 구조로 주제를 나타내는 독창성을 엿볼 수 있다. 각 변주곡마다 주제의 형식을 갖추고 주요한 테크닉의 사용은 주제를 나타내는 화성과 리듬에 부여하였다. 연습곡에서 낭만 시대에 잘 사용하지 않은 해결되지 않은 불협화음, 반음계, 지속음, 갑작스런 전조로 알칸의 놀라운 화성 사용의 능력을 알 수 있으며, 변주 기법은 고전 시대에 주로 사용한 장식변주와 낭만 시대에 주로 사용한 성격변주가 혼합되어 나타나며 피아노라는 악기에 관현악적인 음향과 타악기적인 효과까지 나타내었다. 결론적으로 「Douze Etude Op.39」는 19세기 알칸의 화려한 테크닉과 고전적인 면, 심지어 현대적인 피아노 기법까지 나타나 있는 곡임을 알 수 있으며 이에 더하여 그에 대한 더 많은 이해와 올바른 평가를 본 논문에서는 의도하고자 하였다.; Charles Valentin Alkan (1813-1888), who did not belong to any of the School of the piano in the nineteenth century, was an eccentric and pessimistic French composer and pianist. Alkan was a gifted pianist, leading the 19th century, and mainly composed works for the piano only. However, he was almost forgotten among the public due to his reclusive life unlike his contemporaries: Chopin, Liszt. This thesis studied his Jewish background and the effect on his work through the interaction with his contemporaries, after investigating some detailed characteristics such as melody, harmony, rhythm, counterpoint etc that are seen on his work. Then the thesis analyzed a famous piano suit 「Douze Etude Op.39」one of his a lot of great works. This masterpiece consist of Symphony, Concerto, Overture, Variation. The most popular No.12, “Le festin d'Esope" shows his originality that represents its theme with the simplest structure as 25 variations. Each variation is in accordance with the form of the theme and its important use of technique corresponds to harmony and rhythm that shows its theme. Besides, we can find Alkan's amazing ability in use of harmony by noticing unsolved dissonance cord, chromatic, pedal tone, sudden transition which are hardly used in Romantic period. The variation technique is shown by being mixed Decorate Variation technique mainly used in Classic period with Character Variation in Romantic period, and it effects on piano with both orchestra sounds and percussion properties. This thesis mets the conclusion that 「Douze Etude Op.39」is an outstanding work that reflects both splendid and classical aspects of Alkan in the 19th century, even which is representing contemporary piano technique. In addition, it aimed further understanding and appropriate evaluation of him.
