Abstract

본 논문은 힌데미트(Paul Hindemith)의 초기작품에 속하는 Viola와 Piano를 위한 Sonata op.11 no. 4 F Major에 대한 분석 연구이다. 힌데미트는 독일에서 활동한 신고전주의의 대표적인 작곡가이며, 비올라 연주자로서 활동하며 많은 비올라 작품들을 남겼다. 또한 그는 비올라라는 악기의 특성을 정확히 이해하고 있어서 효과적인 작품들을 작곡하였고, 독주악기로서 비올라의 영역을 넓혔다는 평을 받고 있다. 이 곡은 이러한 평가의 시작이라고도 할 수 있는 작품으로 현대곡 답지 않은 서정적인 선율의 작품(부제: ?Fantasie Sonata?)으로 힌데미트의 작품 중 비올라 독주회의 선곡 프로그램으로 가장 인기 높은 작품 중 하나이다. 이 작품은 힌데미트가 프랑크푸르트 오페라단의 음악 감독으로 재임하던 1918년 12월 5일에 완성 되었으며 초연은 힌데미트 자신에 의해 1919년 6월 2일 프랑크푸르트에서 피아니스트 Emma Lubeeke-Job의 협연으로 연주 되었다. 본론에서는 먼저 힌데미트의 생애와 작품들을 시기별로 분류하여 그 특징들을 알아보았고, 비올라 작품들의 목록을 정리하였다. 마지막으로는 op. 11 no. 4를 분석하였다. 이 소나타는 자유로운 형식을 가지고 있으며, 제 1악장 Fantasie, 제 2악장 Thema mit Variation, 제 3악장 Finale로 각 악장이 연결되어 있다. 이곡에서도 알 수 있듯이 힌데미트의 음악은 약동적인 리듬과 명쾌한 악상, 그리고 때로는 대담한 불협화음을 곁들인 확대된 조성, 대위법적 서법 등으로 후기 낭만파의 답답함을 탈피하여 제1차 세계대전 후의 음악계의 새로운 바람을 불러일으켰으며 그로 인해서 그는 당시 ?새로운 음악?의 기수라는 이름으로 불리기까지 하였다. 힌데미트는 이와같이 이 곡에서 실험적인 요소를 충분히 가미하며 이와 더불어 신고전주의 작곡가들이 나아가야할 방향을 제시하였다.; This thesis is about one of Paul Hindemith's earliest composition, sonata op.11 no. 4 F Major of Viola and Piano. Hindemith, neoclassical composer who worked in Germany, left behind numerous works as a violist. He is known for understanding characteristic of viola in values depth and composing numerous works for viola. The piece is especially one of the popular viola recital works due to its poetic melody. Hindemith completed this piece in December 5th of 1918 when he was working in Frankfurt as a musical director of opera company. Its first performance was played by pianist, Emma Lubeeke-Job together with Hindemith at Frankfurt. Before taking up the analysis of the Sonata I introduced four general knowledge of Hindemith. The first paragraph introduces Hindemith's life, the second expresses his musical characteristic, and the third represents his musical style and lists his viola pieces. Finally, I analysed Hindemith's Sonata for Viola and Piano, op.11 no. 4, one of his masterpieces. This sonata is not restricted by any traditional forms and each movements are connected without a pause. This is consisted of first movement, 'Fantasie', second movement, 'Thema mit Variation', and third movement, 'Finale'. As this work shows, Hindemith's compositions avoid oppressiveness of later Romanticism through lively rhythm, lucid theme, expanded tonality with dissonances, and contrapuntal techniques which started a 'new trend'. Therefore, Hindemith's 'new trend' presents direction which neoclassical composers should go forward.
