'원'을 모티프로 한 텍스타일 디자인 연구

Abstract

산업발달과 과학기술의 발전으로 인해 생활의 질적 수준이 날로 향상되고 있는 오늘날의 현대인들은 물질적 가치에 대한 혼란의 시기를 겪고 있다. 생활의 편리함, 기능성만이 중시되던 사회 현상의 대안으로써, 보다 인간의 감성을 충족시키고, 물질적 가치보다 인간의 내면, 정신적 가치를 이끌어 내는 역할로써 생활공간, 소비재 등의 디자인에 대한 가치 변화를 시도하고 있다. 현대인들이 추구하는 ‘정신적 가치', '감성적 욕구‘란, 이제 한사람의 개인 스스로의 만족이 아닌, 나와 타인, 그리고 모두가 속해 있는 사회, 환경에 대한 관심으로 확장되어, 의, 식, 주 전반에서 그 움직임은 확대되고, 그것이 모두가 공감하는 하나의 문화로써의 역할을 가지게 되는 것이다. 또한 국가 문화의 중요성이 부각되면서 각 디자인 분야에서 국가, 또는 지역 문화적 요소를 반영하는 동향이 나타나고 있으며, 삶의 공간으로 환경을 고려하는 친환경 디자인이 주목되고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구자는 한국적인 특색을 가진 문화를 표현하기에, 전통적 요소와 현대적 요소를 융화시켜 한국인의 사상과 감정, 이미지를 현대적으로 재해석한 다양한 시도가 현대 사회에서 요구되고 있다고 생각한다. 한국의 문화 요소를 패브릭 디자인에 접목시키는 데는 다양한 방법이 있다. 즉, 문양, 색, 여백의 활용, 수묵기법 등을 들 수 있는데, 특히 수묵기법을 이용한 인테리어 패브릭 디자인은 실내 공간의 분위기를 보다 안정감 있고, 부드러운 이미지로 변화시킬 수 있다. 수묵은 글자 그대로 물과 먹으로 글씨나 그림을 그리는 것으로, 일반적으로 채색을 피하고 먹을 이용하여 정신성을 구현하고자 하는 표현양식으로서 물의 농담과 화면의 재질, 그리고 작가의 독자적 표현에 의해 그 작품의 표정은 너무나 다양하다. 또한 순간적이고 우연적인 효과가 강한 먹의 특성은 동양세계에서 이해할 수 있는 것으로, 단조로우면서 깊이 있으며, 소박하면서도 격조 있는 한국인의 정서를 잘 보여준다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국의 수묵 기법을 활용하고, 마, 삼베, 옥사 등의 한국적인 섬유 소재를 활용함으로써, 친환경적이며 보다 한국적 정서를 구현하여 우리 고유의 것을 모던한 느낌으로 재구성한, 한국의 문화를 내포한 디자인을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 붓에 의한 표현을 통하여 섬유와의 만남이 이루어내는 조화미를 창출하는데 있어, 원의 이미지를 응용하고 본인의 내적 심상을 담아 표현된 원을 패턴화하여 독창적인 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하고자 한다. 작업의 모티프로 활용된 원은 예로부터 동서고금을 막론하고 모든 인류의 정신적인 측면에서 관념화되어 나타났으며 장식성을 배제한 간결한 형태 속에 함축된 상징적 의미를 가지면서 많은 예술가들에게 예술적 표현소재로 끊임없이 활용되어왔고, 더욱 다양한 방식으로 새로운 조형세계로 재창조되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 다음과 같이 진행 되었다. 첫째, 동양회화의 수묵에 대한 이론적 고찰을 통하여 수묵의 조형성 및 표현기법과 점, 선, 면에 의한 표현성에 대해 알아보고, 수묵기법을 활용한 현대 디자인에 대해 살펴보았다. 둘째, 원에 대한 이론적 고찰을 통하여 작품의 모티프인 원의 조형적 특징, 상징성, 구성 방법에 대해 이해하고 동양회화에 표현된 원의 이미지를 살펴보았다. 셋째, 한지위에 먹의 농담을 이용하여 붓의 느낌을 살린 다양한 원의 이미지를 서정적으로 담아내었다. 넷째, 표현된 원 이미지를 반복, 배열하여 구성하였으며, 디지털 프린팅 기법을 이용해 전통소재에 구현함으로서 한국적인 가리개 디자인을 제시하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구과정을 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 먹을 사용하여 작업한 결과 한지에서 우연적으로 형성되는 먹의 번짐과 농담에 의한 은은한 표현성으로 인해 먹이 그 어떤 재료보다 한국적인 서정적인 느낌을 담아내는데 효과적인 재료라는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 둘째, 원의 이미지를 상징적인 의미와 연결시켜 본인의 내적인 심상을 담아 다양하게 표현할 수 있었다. 셋째, 곡선의 부드러움과 공간감을 주는 원을 모티브로 삼음으로서 심리적인 안정감을 주고, 디자이너와 소비자 간에 정신적, 감성적 교류를 이루게 해 주었다. 넷째, 전통적인 섬유소재와 표현재료를 사용함으로서 보다 한국적인 디자인을 제시할 수 있었다.;Modern people of today are going through an age of confusion in the material values as the level of quality increases daily in the life for the advancement of industry and scientific technology. As alternatives to the social phenomena emphasizing on the convenience and functionality of life, value changes have been attempted for designs in the living space and consumer products among others to play a role of leading the internal and spiritual values of human beings as well as of satisfying the emotions of mankind, rather than material values. The 'spiritual values' and 'emotional needs' pursued by modern people play a role of a culture shared by everyone as their movements are expanded around all the clothing, food and dwelling while extending to interests in the society and environment where everyone belongs including myself and others, let alone the self-satisfaction of an individual. In addition, the eco-friendly designs in consideration of environment as the space of life has drawn attraction as the trends to reflect the national or regional elements in culture appear with the emerging importance of national culture. Accordingly, this researcher suggests that it is necessary for the modern society to have various attempts to reinterpret the thoughts, emotions and images of Korean people in modern ways with the traditional and modern elements converging on expressions with cultures having Korean characteristics. There are various ways to apply Korean cultural elements to fabric designs. In other words, they include the patterns, colors, application of space, techniques with India ink, etc. Especially among them, the interior fabric designs using techniques with India ink might change the atmosphere of the interior spaces into more stability and softer image. Techniques with India ink refer to drawing letters or pictures with water and India ink, as they were. The expressions of their works are so diverse as to have the lightness or darkness of water, painting materials and unique expressions for an artist's own ways, along with the expressive patterns to realize the nature of spirit using India ink while avoiding coloring in general. In addition, the strong characteristics of moments and accidents show the Korean sentiments in a good manner as being monotonous but deep, simple but elegant, which can be understood in the Orient. Accordingly, this study suggests designs including the Korean cultures from reorganizing our traditional things into the modern feelings by realizing more eco-friendly and Korean sentiments while utilizing Korean fabric materials including yam cloth, hemp cloth and dupioni silk, along with techniques with India ink in Korea. In creating the beauty of balance from the combination of fabrics and expressions by brush, the image of circles is applied in order to develop the unique textile designs by the patterns of circles expressed with the inner image of my heart. Circles, which were used for a motif of works, have appeared under the spiritual aspects of mankind regardless of the East or West from the ancient times. They have been endlessly used as materials for the artistic expressions to many artists with symbolic meanings contained in the simple patterns excluding the nature of decoration. Accordingly, they have been recreated into the new world of formativeness in more diversified ways. For such backgrounds, this study was carried out as follows. First, through theoretical considerations on the India ink in the Oriental paintings, this study identified the spiritual nature of India ink, characteristics of materials, nature of formativeness and expression, and reviewed the modern designs using techniques with India ink. Second, through theoretical considerations on circles, this study attempted to understand the formative characteristics, symbolism and constructive methods of circles as the motif, and to identify the image of circles expressed in the Oriental paintings. Third, this study tried to contain images of various circles on the traditional paper in a lyric expression while vitalizing the feeling of brushes using the lightness and darkness of India ink. Fourth, the expressed images of circles were organized with repetition in an array. Accordingly, this study suggested designs for Korean covers by realizing them to the traditional materials using the digital printing techniques. Through processes of this research, this study could obtain the findings as follows. First, India ink was confirmed to be an effective material to contain the Korean sentiments than any other material due to its elegant nature of expression from the spreading, lightness and darkness of India ink, which can be formed accidentally on the traditional sheets from using India ink. Second, it was possible to have various expressions containing the internal image of my heart by connecting the images of circles to the symbolic meanings. Third, it was possible to have the psychological stability and to provide the spiritual and emotional communications between designers and consumers by adopting circles as the motif, which can deliver the feelings of softness and space in the curve. Fourth, it was possible to suggest designs in more Korean ways by using the traditional fabrics and expressive materials.
