작약꽃 이미지를 응용한 조립형 장신구 디자인 연구

Abstract

In the past, personal ornaments have been used to display wealth, denote status and as a means of monetary value. Nowadays, closely interlinked with the ever-changing fashion industry, the functions of personal ornaments have greatly increased as an ltimate way of expressing one's individuality. Moreover, personal ornaments have become an integral part of today's apparel rather than being confined in their use as small objects decorating parts of a clothing. With the evolution of a complex society, uniqueness in design has become the preferred trend in the design industry. Such trend can also be seen in the field of personal ornaments which led to the creation of a new type of design that can be assembled and formed to fit one's individual preference. This new assemble-type design can be displayed in various ways. However, although the assemble-type design is practical in the sense that the wearer can alter the design to suit its diverse needs and effectively express one's individual fashion statement, its application and modification is limited. The purpose of this study is to present the various possibilities of the assemble-type design in a personal ornament ranging from body ornaments to simpler function of a corsage by fully utilizing its interchangeable quality. I have chosen the voluminous and colorful peonies as a method to describe the various decorations and method of display. Since ancient times, various manifestations of flowers, which portray nature's vitality and beauty, have been widely used as central motifs for designing personal ornaments. The voluminous and color contrasting features as well as its diverse species have made peonies a suitable motif in expressing human's natural desire to accessorize using beautiful personal ornaments. Such artistic beauty of the peony was applied in the making of the assemble-type personal ornament that is decorative and presentable in various forms the purpose of which was to introduce an image of nature in creating a unique and artistic personal ornament design that corresponds to the diverse and multi-functionality needs of modern day people. For the methodology and findings of this study, the historical evolution of personal ornaments was studied and the theoretical aspects of an assemble-type structure were considered in understanding the principles of structural mechanisms and applied to the works in this thesis. In choosing the mechanisms that would allow the assemble-type structure of personal ornaments possible, snaps were used taking into consideration the flimsy nature of the fabric and brooch-type pins were used for simple functionality in detached form. Additionally, the changes in the flower motifs in the history of personal ornaments were studied and methodology in portraying the flower and choice of fabric in fashion collections were analyzed in introducing the making of the assemble-type personal ornament in relation to the clothing. The structural form of peonies was carefully analyzed to express its various forms, unique volume and contrasting colorfulness. Items such as fabric, vinyl, water-soluble fabric, etc. were used to express not only volume but also to maximize the use of diverse materials. Fabric wires that were wrapped by machine stitching were introduced to enhance the voluminous expression of the peony and a new fabric modeling method was used to add to the visual effects. The following conclusions can be drawn from this study: First, the wearer's active participation fueled by choice and demand were the main forces behind the different trends in design and the assemble-type design was a multi-design feature that satisfied the craving senses of diversity in modern day people. Such design feature would play a significant role in the making of high value-added products in future societies. Second, the assemble-type structure was applied in the making of multi-use ornaments that ranged from body ornaments to simple functionality of a corsage. By adding a mechanism that allows the separated piece to be used independently, presentation in multiple forms was possible, and possibility of further extending the assemble-type structure to develop a multi-function and even multi-purpose application was discovered. Third, in expressing the peony, the motif for this thesis, a fabric wire structure that was wrapped and machine stitched was developed. This methodology effectively portrayed the voluminous nature and texture of the peony. A combined use of soft fabric and flexible fabric wire made it possible to effectively portray a restrained and fixed structure in fabric ornaments that was previously only applicable to metal ornaments. In addition to personal ornaments, the possibility of effectively applying such fabric wire structures to numerous applications (i.e. art-wear, fiber art, etc.) was discovered. Fourth, the use of free-style stitch and mix-match of various fabrics such as silk, organza, woolen fabric, vinyl, etc. was essential in expressing the unique texture that is characteristic of the peony and also in maximizing the sense of texture. Based on the findings mentioned above, multi-purpose personal ornaments were created using the interchangeable qualities of the assemble-type structure. Furthermore, the study presented a practical personal ornament that incorporated the voluminous image of peonies and emphasized the decorative aspects of personal ornaments. It is my hope that this thesis will aid future research in the study of assemble-type personal ornaments.;현대 장신구는 과거의 부와 권력, 재화가치에서 더 나아가 패션과의 밀접한 연관성을 가지며 자신의 개성을 나타내는 수단으로서 그 가치와 영역이 확대되고 있다. 또한 의상의 일부를 장식하는 소도구에 국한되지 않고 토털 패션(Total Fashion)을 지향하는 현대의상의 주요 요소로서 작용하고 있다. 현대의 복잡화된 사회구조와 기호변화에 따라 각 디자인 분야에서는 차별화된 디자인을 선호하게 되었고 이러한 흐름을 반영하여 장신구 영역에서는 다양한 연출이 가능한 조립형 디자인이 주목을 받게 되었다. 하지만 조립형 디자인은 가변성을 가지며 착용자의 다양한 욕구 충족과 효과적으로 개성을 연출할 수 있는 실용적인 방식임에도 그 사례는 제한적이며 변환 범위가 한정적이다. 이에 본 연구는 조립형 디자인이 갖는 가변적 특징을 최대한 활용하여 확장된 형태의 바디 오너먼트(body ornament)에서 단순기능의 코르사주(corsage)까지 하나의 장신구 안에서 다양성을 표현하고자 하였다. 표현 모티프로는 자연의 이미지를 대표하는 꽃 가운데 풍성하고 화려한 이미지를 지닌 작약꽃을 활용하여 풍부한 장식성과 표현의 다양성을 표출하고자 하였다. 장신구에 있어서 꽃의 표현은 고대부터 다양한 방법으로 자연의 생명력과 아름다움을 극대화 시킬 수 있는 모티프로 사용되어 왔다. 작약꽃의 특징인 풍성한 양감과 화려한 색채대비, 다양한 원예 품종은 아름다운 장신구를 착용하고자 하는 인간 본연의 장식 욕구를 충족시켜 주는 이미지로 본 연구의 모티프로 적합하였다. 이러한 작약꽃의 조형미를 응용하여 다양한 연출과 장식성을 겸한 조립형 장신구를 제작하였으며 그 목적은 자연의 이미지를 도입한 독특하고 예술적인 장신구 디자인을 창출하고 조립형 구조를 이용하여 다양하게 연출하고자 하는 현대인의 감성에 부합되는 장신구를 제안하는데 있다. 본 연구의 내용과 접근방법은 장신구 역사의 변천과정을 살펴보고 조립형 구조의 이론적 고찰을 통해 구조적 원리를 파악하여 작품에 적용하였다. 조립형 구조를 접목하기 위한 장치는 패브릭의 특성상 스넵을 이용하였으며 분리 시의 단순기능을 위한 장치로는 브로치 장식을 사용하였다. 또한 장신구사에서 나타난 꽃 모티프 표현의 변천과정을 살펴보고 패션 컬렉션에서 나타난 꽃 이미지의 표현방법과 소재적 측면을 분석하여 의상과의 연관성 내에서 조립형을 도입한 장신구를 표현하였다. 작약꽃의 조형적 분석을 통하여 다양한 품종의 형태와 고유의 과장된 볼륨감, 색채의 대비와 강조를 조화롭게 표현하였으며 표현 소재로는 패브릭과 비닐, 수용성 부직포 등의 다양한 소재를 이용하여 형태의 풍성함 뿐 아니라 소재의 다양함을 극대화 시켰다. 또한 머신 스티치로 래핑(wrapping)한 섬유 와이어를 개발, 적용하여 질감과 양감대비를 통한 작약꽃의 과장된 볼륨감을 극대화 시켰으며 새로운 섬유 조형 기법을 통한 시각적인 차별화를 시도하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 착용자의 선택과 욕구에 의한 능동적 참여가 디자인 변환의 주체이며 조립형 디자인은 다양성을 추구하는 현대인의 감성을 충족시키는 복합적 디자인의 주체가 될 수 있다.또한 이러한 특성은 미래사회에 그 영역이 더욱 확대되어 고부가가치 장신구 영역 창출에 큰 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다. 둘째, 조립형 구조를 응용하여 확대된 영역의 바디 오너먼트(bodyornament)와 분리 시 단순 기능의 코르사주(corsage)까지 가변성과 다면성을 갖는 장신구를 제작할 수 있었다.분리된 개체에 독립기능을 가능케 하는 장치를 부가하여 다양한 연출을 제시하여 조립형 구조가 다기능, 다목적으로 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다. 셋째, 작품의 모티프인 작약꽃을 표현함에 있어서 패브릭의 부드러운 질감과 부조적인 양감을 조화롭게 표현하기 위한 방법으로 머신 스티치로 래핑(wrapping)한 섬유와이어 구조물을 개발하였다. 부드러운 패브릭의 특성과 형태를 자유롭게 구부릴 수 있는 섬유와이어의 접목으로 금속장신구에서만 표현할 수 있었던 절제되고 고정된 형태를 패브릭 장신구에서도 효과적으로 표현할 수 있었다. 이러한 섬유 와이어 조형물을 통해 장신구 외에도 예술의상, 섬유작품 등의 다양한 분야에 효과적으로 사용할 수 있는 가능성도 발견하였다. 넷째, 작약꽃 이미지를 드로잉 하듯이 자유롭게 표현한 회화적 스티치 기법과 실크, 노방, 모직, 비닐 등의 다양한 소재의 믹스매치는 작약꽃 고유의 질감 표현에서 더 나아가 풍부한 촉감적 텍스쳐를 극대화 시킬 수 있었다. 이상의 결과를 통해서 조립형 구조의 가변성과 다면성을 이용하여 다양한 연출이 가능한 장신구를 제작하였다. 작약꽃의 풍성한 아름다움을 더해서 장신구 본연의 장식적 측면을 부각시키면서 실용성을 갖춘 조립형 장신구의 새로운 활용방안과 가능성을 제시하였다. 앞으로 본 연구의 미흡한 점이 보완되어 다양한 연출이 가능한 조립형 장신구의 선행 연구 자료로 보탬이 되길 기대해 본다.
