This paper aims to explore the effects of home-based physical activities on children's physical development, and to suggest the direction of physical activities to encourage children's physical development, by investigating how children's physical activities affect their basic physical fitness, such as flexibility, reflexes (instanteous power/speed), agility, endurance, coordination and balance. For the purpose of this, the paper defines research questions as follows; 1. Is there a significant change in children's physical development after their playing the home-based physical activities (HBPA)? 2. Do HBPA work differently for male and female children? This research is built upon a single-group experiment designed to measure the influence of HBPA on children's basic physical abilities, and researches 24 children under 5 who attend afternoon classes at D elementary school. Research period is from 23rd March to 26th April 2009, in which total 50 HBPAs comprising 15 times (3 times per week) at school and 35 times (7 times per week) at home have been performed and observed. This performances are designed to use 'Children's Basic Abilities Development Program', and especially programmed to use easily accessible tools at home. The tools used in this research to measure flexibility, instant power/speed, agility, endurance and balance/coordination are chosen based upon the standards suggested both in Ahn's 'Investigation on the standard for measuring Children's Physical Abilities', and in Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. A pre-test of the 24 students took place for 5 days from 16th Mar to 20th Mar 2009, and a post-test also for 5 days from 27th Apr to 31 April 2009, both applying the same method. This research carefully traces and examines what has really changed between these two tests, focusing upon the effects of HBPAs on children's basic physical ablities, differences between male and female children, and gaps between superior and inferior groups. The main findings of the research are as follows; First, five elementary abilities, i.e., flexibility, instantaneous power/speed, agility, endurance and coordination/ balance have all significantly increased after the HBPAs were performed. Particularly, flexibility and balance have increased twice as much and, agility three times as much. This means that HBPAs at kindergarten and home provided the children with more opportunities to act and play, and thereby contributed to their physical development. Second, there has been no significant gap between male and female children in applying HBPAs except for agility. In other words, HBPAs have the same effects on girls and boys, but in the case of endurance, there is a significant gap between girls and boys. In particular, they have more effects on boys than on girls.-
