그림책을 활용한 다문화교육활동이 유아의 편견과 친사회적 행동에 미치는 변화

Abstract

본 연구는 유아교육 현장에서 다문화교육을 실시할 때 유아들에게 효과적이고 유익하다고 생각되어지는 그림책을 활용한 다문화 교육활동이 E초등학교병설유치원 만5세 Y반 유아들의 편견 및 친사회적 행동에 미치는 변화에 대해 알아보았다. 이와 같은 목적을 위해 본 연구에서 설정한 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. 1. 그림책을 활용한 다문화 교육활동에 참여한 유아들의 편견에는 어떤 변화가 있는가? 2. 그림책을 활용한 다문화 교육활동에 참여한 유아들의 친사회적 행동에는 어 떤 변화가 있는가? 본 연구는 최근 급속히 다문화 사회로 들어서는 한국의 현실 속에 앞으로 다문화 사회에 살아갈 유아들에게 다문화교육을 실시하여 편견을 감소시키고, 친사회적행동을 증진시킬 수 있는지에 대한 현장연구이며, 연구대상은 서울에 있는 E초등학교병설유치원 Y반 유아30명이었고, 연구기간은 12주간 이루어졌다. 본 연구에서 유아용 편견 검사 도구는 Williams, Best와 Boswell이 제작한 Preschool Racial Attitude Mrasure Ⅱ(PRAM)와 Williams와 Roberson의 Color Meaning Test(CMT)와 서현(2003)이 제작한 ‘유아 편견 측정도구’를 소성숙(2008)이 수정․보완한 것을 사용하였고, 친사회적 행동 검사 도구는 김영옥(2003)이 개발한 유아의 친사회적 행동 평가 척도(PBSYC)를 사용하였다. 본 연구에서 활용한 다문화반영 그림책은 Derman-Spark & The A. B. C Task Force(1989)가 제시한 “반편견 어린이 도서 분석의 10가지 방법”에 의거하여 교육인적자원부에서 개발한 유아를 위한 세계이해 및 다문화교육 활동자료(2007)에 있는 창작동화와 아이코리아에서 개발한 다문화가정동화(2008) 그리고 김영희(2007), 최경숙(2008)이 논문에서 사용한 그림책으로 12권을 선정하였다. 연구 문제를 검증하기 위해 t검증을 실시하였고 SPSS 12.0통계프로그램을 사용하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 그림책을 활용한 다문화교육활동을 통해 유아의 ‘인종’, ‘외모’, ‘가족구성’에 대한 편견이 감소되었다. 이러한 결과는 유아가 동화에 나오는 주인공의 입장에서 생각해보고 이들의 상황을 공감해 보며 반편견과 관련된 지식과 인식을 축적하였으며 창안하기 활동을 통해 표상함으로써 반편견 인식을 내면화하여 유아의 편견이 감소하였다고 사료된다. 둘째, 그림책을 활용한 다문화교육활동을 통해 유아의 친사회적 행동이 증진되었다. 이러한 결과는 다문화 교육활동과 관련하여 유아가 다른 사람의 입장에서 생각해보고 서로의 장점을 찾고, 친구의 어려움을 돕고, 나누는 활동을 통해 편견뿐만 아니라 친사회적 행동에도 변화가 있었음을 시사한다. 결론적으로 그림책을 활용한 다문화교육활동은 다양한 인종과 문화, 외모, 가족구성에 대한 유아의 편견을 변화시키고, 이와 관련하여 타인에 대한 친사회적 행동을 증진시키는데 효과적인 방법이었다고 할 수 있다.;The purpose of this study was examined the effect of multicultural education program using picture books, which were proved to be useful for young children, on prosocial behavior and bias of 5 year old children who were in ‘Y’ class in ‘E’ kindergarten. Following research questions is developed. 1. How multicultural education program using picture books affect children’s bias? 2. How multicultural education program using picture books affect children’s prosocial behavior? This study conducted fieldwork to know the possibility of multicultural education which can reduce a bias and promote prosocial behavior of children as Korean society is quickly entering multi-cultural society. The target of this study was 30 children in ‘E’ kindergarten; the period of the research was conducted for 12 weeks. The measurement tool for children’s bias was Preschool Racial Attitude Mrasure II (PRAM) made by William Best and Boswell, Color Meaning Test (CMT) made by William and Roberson, Children’s Bias Measurement Tool (2008) made by Seo Hyun, modified and completed by So Sung Sook. Regarding prosocial behavior, Positive Behavior Support for Young Children (PBSYC) made by Kim Young Ok was used as a measurement tool. Based on 10 method of analyzing anti-bias children book’ proposed by Derman-Spark & A. B. C Task force (1989), The multi culture reflected picture books using this study consisted of 12 books, which were created children’s stories of ‘Understanding of World Society and Multiculture Activity Program for Young Children’ written by Ministry of education, Multi Culture Family Children’s Stories written by ikorea and the picture books was in thesis of Kim Young Hee (2007), Choi Kyoung Sook (2008). T-test was conducted and SPSS 12.0 was used to prove this study. The findings of this study were as follows; First, multicultural education program using picture books reduced young children’s bias for human races, appearance, and family members. This result considered as this young childrentried to project themselves into the hero’s situation, understood the situation and accumulated anti bias related knowledge and cognition so that they may internalize anti bias thought, finally reduced the children’s bias. Second, multicultural education program using picture books boosted children’s prosocial behavior. This result considered as this young children imagined themselves in others’ position, so that they may be able to see the good point of others, help them and share the things. Finally their bias and prosocial behavior had been changed. In conclusion, multicultural education program using picture books affectedthe bias of different human races, cultures, appearance and family members, and was the more efficient way of boosting prosocial behavior to others.
