Although history essentially treats the past as truth, the definition of the past can be changed by a new discovery or a change of understanding. An interest in women which has endured since late in the 20th century pulls up the unknown story of women. The story is important because it can change the value of specific history. An example is the French Revolution. There are two viewpoints about the historical meaning of the revolution. One is that it was the revolution of liberty and freedom. In this light, the French Revolution is regarded as one of mankind's greatest historical events. Another viewpoint is that it was an anti-revolution because it didn't give justifiable reward compared to women's main role in the revolution. The article consists of three parts. The first part classifies the activities of women under four categories: The food riots, the roles of agitation and surveillance, the performance of military roles, and the pursuits of female citizenship. This article also summarizes the outcome of the revolution and how it affected women. The second part checks history textbooks of Korea and the U.S. for new explanations on whether or not the voice of women were reflected. Finally, this article also proposes a teaching plan. It contains new insight on the meaning of the French Revolution. The conclusion reflects the hope that the student can develop their own opinion about the historical meaning of the revolution by considering new view points. Endless interest about new explanation of learned circles of History literature and teacher's effort to transfer these explanations to students can help students have a better understanding of history.-
