고구려 고분벽화의 사신도를 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

오늘날 패션은 대중매체의 활성화와 통신 산업의 발달을 기반으로 전 세계적으로 고부가가치를 생산하는 문화산업으로 부상하고 있다. 각국의 패션디자이너들은 세계시장에서 경쟁력을 갖기 위하여 자국의 문화를 토대로 세계적 의상을 만들기 위해 노력하고 있으며, 현재 국내 디자이너들 역시 우리의 전통문화를 현대의상에 접목시켜 세계성, 독창성을 담아내고자 전통미의 현대적 재현에 대한 시도가 계속적으로 이루어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 우리의 전통문화의 세계화를 추구함에 있어서 고구려의 고분벽화를 선택하여 세계무대에서 경쟁력을 가진 소재로 그 가능성을 제시함에 목적이 있다. 전통문화의 세계화를 추구하기 위해서는 정체성 확립이 기초된 문화유산이 필요하다. 고구려는 다양한 문화를 수용해 나름의 전통문화와 지역적 색깔이 뚜렷한 문화유산이다. 고구려 문화가 담겨진 고구려 벽화는 고구려인의 특징인 역동성과 창조성을 담고 있는 세계적 문화 코드를 형성함에 있어서 부족함이 없는 소재라 할 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 고구려의 고분벽화는 현대적 감각과 함께 우리 민족의 독자성을 지닌 창의적인 현대 패션으로 재창조되어 질 수 있을 것이다. 또한 데님 소재의 의상에 발염기법을 사용하여 고구려 고분 벽화 중 회화성이 최고점에 달한 것으로 평가 받고 있는 사신도 벽화를 역사적 흥미와 현재성이 담긴 작품으로 재해석하고자 하였다. 이론적 배경으로 고구려 고분벽화, 염색 기법에 대하여 살펴보았다. 작품의 모티브가 될 고구려 고분 벽화에 담겨진 내적 의미를 파악하고 작품에 응용되어질 강서대묘와 강서중묘 사신도의 조형성을 형태, 색채를 중심으로 분석하였다. 강서대묘와 강서중묘의 사신도는 고구려 고분벽화 가운데 최정상급으로 꼽히는 것으로 고구려 고분벽화 중에서 가장 웅혼하고 세련된 필치의 회화성을 지닌다. 후기 고분벽화는 사신을 단독 배치함으로써 대담한 공간 해석을 보여준다. 더욱이 부조 화법으로 형상화하여 형상의 입체감을 잘 살렸으며, 생동감 넘치는 필치와 먹선과 적색, 녹색, 황색, 청색, 갈색, 백색 등 화려한 채색으로 마감하였다. 디자인 모티브인 고구려 벽화의 사신도를 데님 소재의 특성과 발염기법을 활용하여 현대적 의상에 페인팅 한다. 고구려 벽화의 사신도를 재현하기 위해 다양한 염색기법 특징 및 효과를 살핀 후 사신도의 표현에 가장 적합한 염색기법을 선택하였다. 이론적 고찰을 토대로 고구려 벽화에 나타난 사신의 문양을 조형적으로 재구성하여 현대복식에 도입하고, 데님이라는 소재의 특성을 활용해 핸드 워싱과 같은 효과를 주는 발염으로 사신의 형태를 만들고 필요한 부분에 모티브의 특징적 색을 칠한다. 고구려 고분벽화를 응용한 8벌의 의상은 데님과 쉬폰의 소재로 제작 하였고, 주 소재인 데님에 발염기법을 사용하여 강서대묘와 강서중묘의 청룡, 백호, 주작, 현무의 모습을 의상에 핸드 페인팅 하였다. 이를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고구려 벽화는 당대인들의 내적, 외적 측면을 담고 있어 그들의 생활상과 내세관을 알 수 있는 중요한 문화유산으로 현대적 의상에 접목시켜 한국적 미를 표현하기에 적합한 모티브이다. 둘째, 고구려 고분벽화는 뛰어난 회화성을 가지고 있으며 화려한 색채, 웅혼한 형태, 절제되고 조화로운 구성 등 조형적 측면에서도 완성도 높은 회화로 평가 받고 있다. 셋째, 데님소재에 발염기법을 사용하여 워싱이 주는 낡은 듯한 효과를 필요에 따라 선택적으로 사용 가능하며 벽화의 낡고 고풍스러운 느낌의 표현에 활용할 수 있다. 넷째, 현대성을 상징하는 소재인 데님과 고구려벽화의 만남을 통해 전통적 감성을 현대적으로 풀어 낼 수 있다. 고풍스럽고 낡은 느낌의 사신모티브가 데님소재에 발염되면서 고급스러운 현대의상이 된다. 다섯째, 사신 표현기법으로 선택한 핸드 페인팅 기법은 의상표현에서 자유롭게 문양을 구성할 수 있는 장점이 있으며, 평면적인 모티브를 의상이라는 입체물에 옮기면서 의도적으로 만들어내는 구성은 독특한 시각적 효과를 줄 수 있다. 본 연구를 통해 전통문화 요소를 활용한 국내 현대 의상이 해외로 진출함에 있어 문제점으로 지적 받고 있는 독창성과 세계성 결여, 소재의 한계를 극복 할 수 있는 방법을 모색하고, 고구려 고분벽화의 전통 이미지를 현대 패션에 재현하여 한국적 미와 현대성이 결합된 패션의 세계화로 우리의 전통 문화를 세계에 알리고 새로운 문화코드로 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 앞으로도 디자이너의 개성과 무한한 상상력 아래 현대 패션에 우리 전통문화의 독창성을 담아내는 작업에 대한 연구는 지속적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다.;By development of mass media and communication services, fashion of today has become a productive industry. Fashion designers in all over the world are using their own country’s traditional culture to make competitive dress. Similarly, Korean designers are using Korean traditional culture, grafting it dress of today, trying to reconstruct traditional beauty. In this study, I choose Goguryeo’s ancient tomb mural as a competitive material, introduce its potentialities. It need identified cultural heritage to make globalization of traditional culture. Goguryeo’s culture accepted many other countries’s culture. On the other hand, it has unique regional character. Goguryeo’s mural has dynamic and creative characters of Goguryeo’s culture. So it is excellent material to make global culture code. It can be reconstructed with today’s style as a creative modern fashion that has Korean unique character. "Sa-sin" mural has been estimated most beautiful painting in Goguryeo’smurals, because it use various printing techniques on "Denim" material. I reinterpret this "Sa-sin" mural to make historical and modern art work. I reviewed basic background of my work. These are Goguryeo’s murals, dyeing technique. I analyzed intrinsic meaning of Goguryeo’s murals, and this was motive of my work. I also analyzed formative element of "Sa-sin" murals in "Kangsudaemyo" and "Kangsujoongmyo", especially around shapes, colors. They are best one in Goguryeo’s murals. They have the most polished style in Goguryeo’s murals. Late Goguryeo’s murals have no decoration pattern, but they arrange "Sa-sin" alone in the screen, so they make bold space construction. Furthermore, embossed works make them more stereoscopic, strokes of the brush and brilliant colors (red, yellow, green, blue, brown, white, and so on) make them more beautiful. I painted "Sa-sin" mural (that is a motive of my work) on modern dress, using "Denim" materials and dyeing techniques. I studied many processing techniques to reconstruct "Sa-sin" mural. I also studied dyeing techniques to use on patterns. Finally, I selected the most dyeing techniques. Based on basic background, I reconstructed Sa-sin’s pattern of Goguryeo’s mural, introduce it in modern dress. I used feature of "Denim" material to make shape of Sa-sin. That feature is discharge printing which has similar effect of hand washing. Using "Denim" and "chiffon" materials I made 8 dresses that refered Goguryeo’smural. Using discharge printing to Denim which is main material, I printed "Sa-sin-do" on dress. "Sa-sin-do" is a mural on "Kangsudaemyo" and "Kangsujoongmyo", consist of blue dragon, white tiger, "Joo-Jak", "Hyun-moo". Conclusions from this study are followings. First, Goguryeo’s mural is an important cultural heritage that presents Goguryeo people’s thought of life and hereafter. So this is a good motive to express Korean beauty. Second, Goguryeo’s mural has excellent pictorial possibility, perfection on splendid colors, magnificent shape, and organization. Third, Desalinization technique can replace washing effect that give Denim antiqueness. This technique can be used selectively, is appropriate to express antiquity of mural. Fourth, adding Denim and Goguryeo’s mural is really appropriate to create modernism of traditional emotion. Fifth, the hand printing technique has advantage to organize patterns easily. Organization that takes two-dimensional motive to three-dimensional dress makes specific visual effect. Through this study, I find way to overcome some problems that disturb Korean dress in overseas expansion. The problems are deficiency of originality, limitation of materials. I project traditional image of Goguryeo’s mural to modern fashion, so I want to announce traditional Korean culture to worldwide, to present possibility of traditional Korean culture as a new culture code. With designer’s characters and imaginations, further studies to take originality of traditional Korean culture to modern fashion are needed.
