꽃 종이접기 기법을 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

자연의 형태는 예로부터 인간의 감정을 자극하여 예술창작의 원동력을 제공하며 모든 창조적인 영역에서의 근원적 모티브가 되고 있다. 자연에 대한 동경과 열망을 갖고 끊임없이 자연을 관찰하면서 미를 표현해 온 예술가들은 자연의 피상적 모방을 단순히 눈에 보이는 그대로의 표현이 아니라 그 속에 존재하는 특질을 찾아내어 자기만의 새로운 표현기법과 양식으로 그 이미지를 자신의 색깔로 자신만의 방법으로 형상화 하여왔다. 의상에서도 마찬가지로 많은 디자이너들이 자연에서 받은 영감을 의복에 표현하기 위해 새로운 다양한 기법들의 표현 연구와 함께 실험적인 작품들을 선보이고 있으며, 작가의 창조의지가 조형예술의 한 형태로 표현되어 의상의 본래의 목적인 실용성 뿐 만이 아니라 그 자체로써의 하나의 조형 예술로서 인정받고 있다. 특히, 20세기의 현대의상은 일반 조형예술의 특성을 공유하며, 여러 다양한 분야의 조형예술과의 접목을 시도하고 있다. 그 중, 현대 조형예술의 한 분야인 종이 조형예술은 그 발전과 더불어 의상에 있어서도 종이조형의 다양한 기법들을 응용한 의상디자인이 등장하기 시작하였다. 종이조형의 기법은 부조 표현과 환조 표현 등 다양한 표현방법으로 의상디자인에 폭넓게 응용할 수 있으며, 조형적 재구성이 가능해 작가의 창조 활동의 표현방법으로 많은 가능성을 가지고 있다. 이러한 점에서 볼 때, 작가가 자연에서 받은 영감을 의상에 표현하는 하나의 표현기법으로써 종이조형 중 꽃을 모티브로 하여 표현하는 꽃 종이접기 기법을 의상에 응용하여 도입하는 연구를 통해, 조형적 예술미와 독창성, 고부가가치성을 추구하는 의상디자인 개발에 큰 도움을 줄 수 있으리라 기대된다. 이에 본 연구는 창조의 원천이라고 할 수 있는 자연물, 그중에서도 많은 디자인의 모티브로 연구되어왔던 꽃의 형태와 이미지에서 디자인의 모티브를 도출하고, 종이조형 기법 중 꽃 종이접기 기법을 응용하여 의상 디자인으로 연결시키는 과정을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법은 선행연구와 이론 고찰을 통한 작품제작으로 구성되었다. 먼저, 꽃의 이미지와 디자인에 대한 이론적 배경을 문헌 고찰과 사진자료 조사를 비롯한 선행 연구를 통해, 꽃의 상징성과 조형미에 대해 살펴보고, 꽃의 이미지를 응용한 디자인 작품 사례를 통해 꽃의 이미지를 디자인에 응용하는 방법을 고찰하였다. 다음, 본 연구의 주요 모티브인 종이접기 기법과 꽃 종이접기 기법에 관한 고찰로 그 정의와 유래를 문헌고찰과 인터넷 정보 들을 통해 살펴보았으며, 꽃 종이접기의 종류를 문헌고찰과 인터넷 정보 들을 통해 고찰하였다. 또한, 현대 패션 디자이너들의 작품사례 연구를 통해 종이접기 기법을 현대 의상디자인 작품에 응용하는 표현방법에 대해 살펴보았다. 이와 같은 연구를 통하여 다양한 꽃 종이접기 기법의 조형성을 의상에 접목하여 도입하는 방법을 연구, 실험하였으며, 꽃의 형태를 재구성하여 의상에 도입하는 과정에서 꽃 종이접기 기법을 응용하여 표현의 영역을 확대시킴으로서 독창적이고 고급스러운 디자인이 되도록 제시하였다. 작품제작에 있어서 먼저 색종이를 이용하여 여러 가지 다양한 종류의 꽃 종이접기 기법을 실험해봄으로써 표현기법과 조형감각을 익히고, 이를 원단을 이용하여 의상디자인에 접목하는 과정에서 종이와는 다른 소재의 특성상, 원단에 맞는 표현 방법으로 다시 실험하여 새로운 독창적인 표현의 모티브 제시를 의도하였다. 이를 디자인에 응용하여 총 8작품을 실물 제작하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 종합하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 오랜 시간 꽃은 의상 디자인의 주제로써 다양한 기법으로 표현되어 왔으며, 꽃의 형태를 재구성하여 의상에 응용하는 과정에서 꽃 종이접기 기법을 응용하여 표현기법의 영역을 확대시켰다. 둘째, 원단을 이용하여 꽃 종이접기 기법으로 꽃 모티브를 제작할 경우에도 종이접기 기법의 특징인 날렵한 종이의 끝 선 표현과 함께 반복적으로 접는 작업으로 부조 표현과 환조 표현이 가능함을 보여주었다. 셋째, 종이가 아닌 원단을 이용하여 모티브를 제작할 경우, 말거나 구부렸을 때 다시 원래의 자리로 돌아가려는 탄성이나 제자리에 고정되는 힘이 없으며, 접었다 다시 폈을 경우에도 접은 선이 종이와 같이 명확하게 잘 나타나지 않는다. 또한, 단면을 잘랐을 경우 종이와 같이 끝선이 날카롭고 깨끗하게 정리되지 않으며, 풀로 고정되지도 않는다. 이러한 종이와 다른 소재의 차이로 발생하는 문제점들을 해결하기 위해 본래의 종이접기 기법에서의 접기, 말기, 자르기 등의 표현방법들을 스티치 장식, 스팀 고정, 시접처리를 위한 뒤집어 박기와 끝선 올풀기, 등 원단에 알맞은 다양한 방법으로 실험, 연구하여 모티브를 전개하였다. 그 결과, 꽃 종이접기 기법 특유의 날렵한 끝선과 조형적 표현이 잘 드러나면서도 원단을 이용한 꽃 모티브로 발전 할 수 있었다. 넷째, 원단을 이용할 경우, 원단의 소재와 재질감에 따라서 각기 다른 형태와 느낌의 꽃 모티브로 발전 가능하며, 꽃 종이접기 기법의 풍부한 표현 가능성을 다양한 원단으로 실험해 봄으로서 다양한 의복에 응용할 수 있는 잠재력을 보여주었다. 다섯째, 꽃 종이접기 기법을 응용하여 만든 꽃 모티브는, 접기의 방향에 따라 안감과 겉감이 함께 겹쳐지는 중첩효과가 나타난다. 이러한 중첩 된 부분들을 옷의 형태와 디자인에 따라 패턴 상에서 먼저 색채 계획을 세우고, 색채의 배색과 함께 표현함으로써 더욱 효과적으로 보여주었다. 이상의 결과를 통해 꽃 종이접기 기법을 의상 디자인에 접목시킴으로서 새로운 독창적 표현으로서의 다양한 잠재력과 가능성을 재조명하였으며, 나아가 새로운 가치를 지닌 하나의 조형예술로서 영역을 확대하고자 하였다. 이로 인해 앞으로도 지금까지의 연구결과 이외에 다양한 종이접기 기법을 응용하여 원단으로 표현하는 다양한 표현 기법의 연구와 실험을 계속해 나간다면 독창적이며, 고급스러운 의상디자인 개발에 큰 도움을 줄 수 있으리라 기대된다.;A natural form stimulates from ancient times human feelings, and you provide a dynamic of an artistic creation, and the native motif is becoming in all creative working. The Artists who have an immense admiration and passion for the nature have observed and expressed the nature not only by simple imitation but also by painting with their own colors and images as well as develop new ways to express it what they feel. In the same line, fashion designers have been made enormous efforts to develop their own expression skills to bring the nature to the world of fashion which allows them to make creative and frontier pieces expressing their own inspirations about the nature. The creative power of fashion designer develops one of the formative art fields, which is considered as practicality, primary purpose of cloth as well as art itself. Therefore, artists have to do consistent researches to develop the fashion having artistry, creation, and high values as well as build up variable expression techniques including hand making to express their inspiration which allow escaping mechanical and standardized design pattern in the past. In this thesis, I suggest the new insights of flower origami into modern fashion design and present a new linkage between formative reconstruction and providing high valuable added clothes through the processes of flower origami, one of the formative arts by paper. Predictably, large amount of design's motif are coming from the flowers which are one of the best nature supplies, major sources of creation. I have investigated the definition and origin of flower origami as well as collected data about various methods and features of flower origami through the literatures, materials for pictures, and information form internet. In addition, I have collected and arranged the data of modern design used origami method. Especially, I have focused on the types and methods of flower origami which have been applied in modern fashion design. I have been examining the new methods to recruit flower origami into the clothes. Through these studies, I suggest “flower origami” need to be added on the list of expression methods of fashion design as a novel, creative and valuable skill. At first, I have used paper to examine the expression methods and formative sense of various types of flowers and then I have tried to find proper and creative motifs to apply textiles which have different characters compared with those of paper. I have generated total eight pieces of dresses. To highlight the characters of flower origami within textiles, I used roadside-silk, vertical-silk and vertical-silk satin after dyeing which allow enhancing color contrast between in and out of textile and improving visual effects and flower images by gradation dyeing. Here is a summary of my researches. First, my studies broaden the expression methods in fashion fields by trying to use flower origami in clothes as well as suggest a new formative art by examining the possibilities of flower origami in textile. Second, flower origami using textile provides the possibilities to formation both thin layer’s two dimensional and thick layer’s three dimensional expressions at the same spaces. Third, I observed the possibilities that flower origami with various textiles composed of distinctive materials and characters can be expressed diversely even in the same motif. Forth, I found that it is important to arrange the color within the textiles depend on the shape of clothes and design because some flower motifs made by flower origami show both textile’s in and out all together. Fifth, it is sometimes a challenge to generate flower motif by using flower origami with textile since it has different characters in material itself compare with those in paper. However, the procedure of repeated trials and errors gives the chance to develop new creative motif and serendipity by chance. Taken together, my studies in this thesis provide new insights of flower origami into fashion design and highlight new potential and possibilities of hand-making expression skills which will broaden the field of formative arts. Regarding to my studies, I expect that further researches in flower origami using textile in the fashion design field will be performed to develop new expression skills which allow us to build up the creative and valuable fashion design.
