Abstract

Thomas Mann은 시대와 인생으로부터 고립되고 낙오된 사람들의 운명을 그의 작품의 주제로 삼았다. 그는 이 인생으로 부터의 탈락과정을 생과 정신의 분열과 대립 속에서 파악했다. Thomas Mann에게 있어서 현실적인 삶이란 정신이 결핍해 있기 때문에 속악한 것이고 정신은 예술성이고 인식의 세계를 대변하는 것으로써 생보다 고귀하다로 보았다. 그러나 그의 문학의 특질이라고 할 수 있는 것은 Thomas Mann이 이러한 생을 부정하는 인식의 세계에만 안주하지 않고 생을 긍정하는 면도 보이고 있다는 점이다. 이렇듯 상반되는 사상 속에서 변형을 통하여 조화를 모색하는 곳에 Thomas Mann的 Ironie의 발생적인 근거를 엿볼 수 있다. 서로 상반되는 점은 Thomas Mann의 출생에서부터 출발하고 있다고 말할 수 있다. 그의 아버지는 지극히 시민적이고 현실적인 사람으로 Thomas Mann은 그를 따르고 존중하면서도 상반되는 기질인 예술성이 농후한 어머니를 또한 사랑했다. 이러한 이중성으로 인하여 Thomas Mann은 자신과 작품에 대해서 필요한 작가적 간격을 유지하고 진지하게 인식하여 창조했든 것을 다시금 진지하지 않게 유희적으로 의문시 할 수 있는 의식의 자유를 충분히 확보했다고 볼 수 있다. Ironie는 이러한 창조 과정에서 한가지 특수한 기능으로서의 의미를 갖는다. 혼돈이라는 소재로써의 세계를 질서와 아름다움으로 이끌어가는 정신과 관계가 깊고 Thomas Mann은 이러한 정신은 “사랑의 힘”으로써 만이 가능하다고 하였다. 근원적인 대립물간의 지양될 수 없는 갈등 속에서 그 대립물을 관계 짓는 능력을 “사랑의 Ironie"라고 하였다. 이러한 Ironie는 단순한 부정을 위한 부정이 아니라 결합의 능력으로써의 Ironie를 말하는 것이며 그것을 통해서만 대립물 간의 관계가 유지되고 비로소 무한한 것을 示唆할 수가 있다. Thomas Mann의 소설에서 Ironie는 인간정신이 지니고 있는 자유로운 인식과 질서의 원리로 참여를 하고 있음을 알게 된다. 그러므로 방관적 입장과 하나의 거리가 생겨나고 중용의 정신이 나타나는 것이다. 이러한 정신이 실제로 구현된 Ironie를 작품 ”Tristan"속에서 살펴보았다. Erzahler는 하나의 방관자로써 작품속의 인물들과 약간의 거리를 가지고 방관자적인 입장에서 때로는 한 인물에게 호감을 표시하다가도 갑자기 냉정한 시선을 보내기도 하며 혹은 전혀 결말을 작가자신은 내지 않고 있어 독자로 하여금 반성해 보게끔 하거나 날씨의 표현을 총해 작품의 주제를 나타내 주는 등 세부묘사가 우연적인 표현에 있어서까지 주제로 발전되고 있다. 그렇게 해서 개개의 표현과 전체적인 구성에 있어서 하나의 완전성에 도달하는 것이다.;Thomas Mann has selected the fate of the persons falling out of the human life in the age as the theme of his literary works, searching for the dropping process of them through conflict between soul and life. He has thought that life is filthy because it is lack of soul and soul is art higher and nobler than life. He has described some positive aspects of life in his works. Such an acceptance of the life is affected by Nietzsche. Nietzsche has denied soul, insisting that soul, neigning over life, like a metaphysical bird catcher keeps some suspicion ultimately to deceive the others soul and to be ostentatious before others. Thomas Mann's Irony is operating to namely schopenhauer's accepting and Nietzsch's vomiting of recognition. Besides another immediate cause to bring about Thomas Mann's Irony is due to his dual birth. He liked father with real and common senses, and also loved mother with article one very much. The dualism has made him keep distance between his works and himself required for an author and brought him free consciousness reversely to naise questions on his sincere work in no serious consideration. In process of creation, the Irony has special function. This is related to soul with powerful love, which can lead Chaos to harmony and beauty. Thomas Mann has said that it is the Irony of love that can harmonize the unavoidable conflict between the two confronting things. Thus, it can maintain the relation of the conflict and develop into the infinitude of the universe. In Thomas Mann's works, the Irony is working on a principle of free recognition and order in human mind. That is how each aspects of expression and overall composition reached a kind of artistic perfection.
