Abstract
We have synthesized cobalt-substituted manganese oxide 1D nanowires through one-pot hydrothermal treatment of the ion-pair solution of Co^(2+) and MnO₄^(-), along with their 3D hierarchically assembled microspheres. The stabilization of cobalt ion in the manganese sites of alpha- and delta-MnO₂ structures was clearly evidenced by Mn K- and Co K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy as well as by powder X-ray diffraction and elemental analyses. The chemical composition, crystal structure, and morphology of the resultant nanostructures can be easily tailored through the control of reaction condition and precursor composition. That is, 1D nanowires with the tunnel-type α-MnO₂ structure can be prepared by the reaction at 140 °C, whereas the lowering of reaction temperature or the increase of Co content gives rise to the synthesis of 3D hierarchical nanostructured microspheres with the layered δ-MnO₂ structure. It has been obviously demonstrated that the partial Co substitution for the nanostructured manganese oxides causes the improvement of their catalytic activity with respect to olefin oxidation as well as affects significantly their electrode performances. The present study provides an effective way of controlling the chemical properties and functionalities of nanostructured manganese oxides through cation substitution. We have tried to control the aspect ratio and physicochemical properties of 1D nanostructured manganese oxides through copper doping. Copper-doped manganese oxide nanostructures have been synthesized by one-pot hydrothermal treatment for the mixed solution of permanganate anions and copper cations. According to powder X-ray diffraction and electron microscopic analyses, all the present materials commonly crystallize with alpha-MnO₂-type structure but their aspect ratio decreases significantly with increasing the content of copper. Such a variation of crystallite dimension is attributable to the limitation of crystal growth by the incorporation of copper ions. X-ray absorption spectroscopic studies at Mn K- and Cu K-edges clearly demonstrate that the average oxidation state of manganese ions is increased by the substitution of divalent copper ions. Electrochemical measurements reveal the improvement of the electrode performance of nanostructured manganate upon copper doping, which can be interpreted as a result of the decrease of aspect ratio and the increase of Mn valence state. From the present experimental findings, it becomes certain that the present Cu doping method can provide an effective way of controlling the crystal dimension and electrochemical property of 1D nanostructured manganese oxide. Cr-substituted β-Mn_(1-x)Cr_(x)O₂ nanowires with non-aggregated morphology have been synthesized by the chemical oxidation of layered LiMn_(0.9)Cr_(0.1)O₂ microcrystals under hydrothermal condition at elevated temperature. According to powder X-ray diffraction analysis, a persulfate treatment at 200 ℃ gives rise to a unique transformation from monoclinic-layered structure to pyrolusite (β-MnO₂)-type structure. Electron microscopic analyses clearly demonstrated that the oxidized derivative consists of well-separated single-crystalline nanowires with a diameter of ~30nm and a length of several micrometers. Mn K-edge and Cr K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy and chemical analysis provide straightforward evidences on the substitution of chromium ions for the manganese sites of the pyrolusite-structured manganese oxide nanowires. Of special importance is that the present Cr-substituted β-MnO₂-type nanowire shows promising electrode performance for Li+ ion batteries, which is superior to those of the pristine LiMn_(0.9)Cr_(0.1)O₂, bulk β-MnO₂, and other structure-type manganese oxide nanowires including unsubstituted β-MnO₂ nanowire. On the basis of the present experimental findings, We are able to conclude that the persulfate treatment under hydrothermal condition can provide powerful tools not only to prepare cation-substituted manganese oxide nanowires but also to improve the electrode performance of microcrystalline metal oxides through the nanostructure fabrication. We have investigated the influence of the crystal structure on the chemical bonding nature and photocatalytic activity of cubic and hexagonal perovskite A[Cr_(1/2)Ta_(1/2)]O₃ (A = Sr, Ba) compounds. According to neutron diffraction and field emission-scanning electron microscopy, the crystal structure and particle size of these compounds are strongly dependent on the nature of A-site cations. Also, it was found that the face-shared octahedra in the hexagonal phase are exclusively occupied by chromium ions, suggesting the presence of metallic (Cr-Cr) bonds. X-ray absorption and diffuse UV-vis spectroscopic analyses clearly demonstrated that, in comparison with cubic Sr[Cr_(1/2)Ta_(1/2)]O₃ phase, hexagonal Ba[Cr_(1/2)Ta_(1/2)]O₃ phase shows a decrease of Cr oxidation state as well as remarkable changes in interband Cr d-d transitions, which can be interpreted as a result of metallic (Cr-Cr) interactions. According to the test of photocatalytic activity, the present semiconducting materials have a distinct activity against the photodegradation of 4-chlorophenol. Also the Sr-based compound was found to show a higher photocatalytic activity than the Ba-based one, which is attributable to its smaller particle size and its stronger absorption in visible light region.;제 1장에서는 코발트가 치환된 망산 산화물 1차원 나노선과 3차원 밤송이 구조체를 Co₂+ 이온과 MnO4-이온을 전구체로 이용하여 간단한 수열반응을 통하여 합성을 수행하였다. A[Cr_(1/2)Ta_(1/2)]O₃ (A = Sr, Ba)
