에른스트 헥켈(Ernst Haeckel)의 일러스트를 이용한 리버시블(Reversible) 패브릭 디자인

Abstract

자연을 눈으로 보는 것이 아닌 현미경으로 본 적이 있는가? 우리는 그 안에서 새로운 시각적 세상을 보게 된다. 눈으로 바라보던 자연의 편안함과 안식, 휴식, 상쾌함, 아름다움 등의 이미지가 아닌 현미경으로 본 자연은 작은 유기체들의 형상에서 이질적이고 이색적인 느낌을 주고, 생명의 근원적인 것에 대한 경이로움까지 생각하게 한다. 독일의 생물학자인 헥켈(Ernst Heackel)은 진정한 자연의 이해는 현미경을 통해 바라본 자연을 이해하는 것이라고 간단하게 생각하였다. 보는 것을 경험적 지식으로 하여 과학적 원칙과 공식을 세우는 것이 헥켈의 연구 방법이었다. 헥켈은 자연에 대한 관찰 후 생물의 형태적인 발달 과정을 묘사하게 되었고, 생태학(Ecology)이란 용어를 처음으로 사용하게 된다. 1900년대에는 자연에 대한 미의식이 새로운 관점에서 발전하여, 예술과 문화에서 넓게 확장되었다. 문명화 된 삶 속에서 자연을 가까이 하고 싶어 하는 인간의 욕구는 자연을 장식적 형태로 생활 속에서 사용하게 만들었다. 그리고 자연에 대한 모티브가 식상해 지기 시작할 쯤 헥켈의 일러스트에 대한 미의식은 문화적 관심의 반향을 일으켰다. 헥켈의 일러스트는 자연에 대한 재발견이었다. 세포들의 분열과정과 각질섬유, 해양생물들의 다양한 모습은 일반인들이 그 동안 알지 못한 자연의 이면을 알게 해 주었고, 또한 많은 아티스트, 건축가, 디자이너들에게 영감을 주었다. 또한 헥켈의 일러스트는 현재까지 많은 곳에서 사용되어 지고 있다. 헥켈은 자신의 유기체의 형상을 대칭적이고, 단계적으로 조직을 분석하여 생명의 진화에 대한 연구를 하였다. 헥켈의 일러스트는 과학의 시각화이자 그 안에 그 시대의 양식을 갖춘 하나의 예술 작품이었던 것이다. 그 당시 사람들은 이러한 낯선 그림을 대중적으로 받아들인 것은 이러한 이유일 것이다. 헥켈의 사실적인 일러스트는 초현실주의 작가와 바이오모픽 아트에도 많은 영향을 주고 있다. 헥켈의 일러스트를 모티브로 리버시블 패브릭을 제작하기 위한 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 헥켈의 일러스트에 대한 개념적인 특성을 조사, 분석하여 이해하고 이것을 디자인에 응용한 사례를 연구한다. 이를 바탕으로 현대적으로 재구성하여 다양한 디자인을 표현하고자 한다. 둘째, 리버시블에 대한 개념과 방법들을 연구하여 소재의 변형을 이용한 리버시블 패브릭을 알아본다. 셋째, 울의 축융을 이용하여, 울과 합성섬유를 결합시켜 본다. 스티치 기법을 이용하여 다양한 패브릭 디자인 방법도 연구한다. 울의 축융과 재봉 스티치를 이용하여 작품을 8그룹으로 나누어 13작품 제작하여 본다. 이러한 연구를 통하여 분석한 결과 아래와 같은 내용을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 헥켈의 자연에 대한 유기체들의 일러스트를 모티브로 이용한 다양한 패브릭디자인으로 개발할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 리버시블 패브릭의 방법들을 알아보고, 섬유의 변형을 이용한 리버시블 원단을 제작하여 패브릭 디자인을 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 울과 합성섬유의 결합으로 서로의 단점을 보안하여 주는 것과 이러한 방법으로 제작한 원단의 텍스쳐 개발 가능성을 보았다.;Have you ever looked at the nature through a microscope? We see the new visible world in it. Not an image of comfort, rest, freshness and beauty of the nature that we look with eyes, the nature which is looked through the microscope gives a different and special feeling in small organics’ forms, and reminds us of a wonder about the root of the life. A biologist of Germany, Ernst Heackel simply thought that a true understanding of nature is to understand the nature seen through the microscope. Making a scientific principle and formula with visible things as experimental knowledge was his research method. Heackel described the morphological development process of organism after observing the nature, and first used the term of Ecology. As an aesthetic consciousness about the nature was developed from the new angle in 1900’s, it was widely extended in the art and culture. The man’s desire for being close to the nature in the civilized life made the man to use the nature in a decorative form in the life. Also, the aesthetic consciousness about Heackel’s illustration created sensation of cultural concern, when the motive about the nature started to be surfeited. Heackel’s illustration was a re-discovery of the nature. Cells’ division process, cuticle fabric and marine organism’s various figures made people know the nature’s un-known image. Also, it gave inspiration to many artists, architects and designers. Also, Biomorphic has been largely used in many fields up to now. Heackel researched an evolution of the life by analyzing the organism’s tissue gradually and symmetrically. Heackel’s illustration was the visualization of science and the work of art which has the pattern of that time. That’s why that times’ people accepted such the strange picture as popular one. Heackel’s realistic illustration has affected the surrealism artist and biomorphic art. Contents for fabricating the reversible fabric with Heackel’s Illust as the motive are followed. First, Heackel’s Illust is understood by investigating and analyzing the conceptual characteristics of Heackel’s Illust, and then the case which applies to the design is analyzed. Based on it, this study is intended to express various designs by re-forming modernly. Secondly, through researching the concept and methods of Reversible, the reversible fabric using a transformation of material is examined. Thirdly, by using the wool’s felting, the wool and composite fabric is combined. Then, various fabric design methods are researched by using a stitch. The results analyzed through such the study are followed. First, it could be known that the various fabric designs could be developed using Heackel’s illust about the organism of the nature as the motive. Secondly, the reversible fabric’s methods were examined and then the fabric design could be made by fabricating the reversible textile using the transformation of fabric. Thirdly, through the combination of wool and composite fabric, disadvantages were supplemented and there was a possibility of developing the texture of the fabric made by such the method.
