아프리카 민속적 이미지를 표현한 데님 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

21세기에 들어오면서 패션에서의 다문화적 스타일의 문양이나 색채, 실루엣 등의 결합은 새로운 트렌드로 자리 잡고 있어 현대 패션에 새로운 가능성과 자극을 주게 되었다. 특히 아프리카 미술에서 나타나는 독창성과 조형성은 외래문화의 영향 속에서도 순수한 형태로 그 명맥이 이어져 오고 있다. 데님은 매우 실용적인 소재로 어떤 소재의 의상과도 잘 어울리므로 연령, 성별, 사회의 지위를 막론하고 여러 계층에서 입혀지고 있다. 이러한 데님은 동시대의 문화의 영향을 미치고 있으며, 1960-70년대 젊은이들이 반항적인 이미지로 데님을 찢어 입기 시작하면서부터 데님의 장식적이고 상징적인 이미지가 현재의 디자이너들에 의해 다양한 소재 기법들을 이용한 하이패션 데님의상으로 재탄생되어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 아프리카 이미지에서 보여지는 화려한 색채와 문양 및 여성의 이미지를 데님패션에 응용하고자 리버스 아플리케(Reverse Applique) 기법을 활용하여 풍부한 질감의 데님 소재를 개발하여 사용하였다. 데님의 색채는 블루와 블랙, 화이트 컬러를 사용하였고, 리버스 아플리케가 된 부분의 문양을 부각시키고자 여러 가지 선명한 색채의 퀼트천을 패치 시켜서 표현하였다. 연구의 목적은 새로운 패션의 표현방식과 창작자의 개성을 부각시킬 수 있는 소재를 개발하여 소재 표현의 영역을 확대하고, 독창적이고 차별성 있는 데님 패션 디자인의 스타일을 창출하는데 있다. 연구의 내용과 방법으로는 국내외 문헌과 학술지, 논문, 인터넷 사이트 등을 통한 문헌조사를 바탕으로 아프리카 민속적 이미지의 구성 요소와 미적 특성에 대해 알아보고, 현대 패션에 나타난 아프리카 민속적 이미지에 대해 조사하였다. 데님의 개념 및 역사, 종류와 특성, 그리고 표현기법에 관해 살펴보고, 현대 패션에 나타난 데님 디자인 사례를 분석하였다. 또한 리버스 아플리케 기법의 정의와 특징, 종류에 대해 조사하고 현대 패션에 나타난 리버스 아플리케 기법에 대해 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 아프리카 여성 이미지와 문양을 응용한 데님의상 작품 8벌을 제작하였다. 작품의 실루엣이나 스타일은 디테일이 가장 효과적으로 보일 수 있도록 심플하게 디자인 하였고, 여성스럽고 젊은 감각에 어필될 수 있는 스타일의 아트 웨어로 전개하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아프리카 민속적 이미지의 구성 요소로는 문양, 색채 인물상이 있는데, 특히 문양에서는 아프리카인들만의 상징적이고 독창적인 기하학적 모티브들로 구성되어 있다. 아프리카 고유의 화려한 색채 및 자유로운 구성에 의한 독특한 문양들은 시각적인 재미를 주어 현대적 감각에 부합할 수 있었고, 단순한 상징적 기호로서 만의 기능이 아닌 예술적인 감성을 가진 표현 수단이었음을 인식하게 되었다. 둘째, 세계화, 대중화 된 현대 데님 패션은 가공 기술의 발달과 고급화 추세로 더욱 주목 받고 있다. 데님은 시대의 요구에 맞게 그 의미와 기능을 변화시켜 왔는데 21세기에 들어서면서 개성적이고 독창적인 소재 개발의 중요성이 더욱 절실해졌다. 또한 데님은 다양한 아이템과 소재와의 매치가 잘 어울리는 매우 실용적인 소재임을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 리버스 아플리케 기법은 퀼트의 한 종류인 몰라 퀼트에서 주로 사용되었고, 수공예적인 질감을 내는데 탁월하며, 겉감의 잘려진 원단 사이로 내비쳐 지는 안감의 색채를 부각시켜 입체감을 느낄 수 있었다. 또한 리버스 아플리케가 된 부분에 적용한 올 풀기 기법을 통하여 섬세하며 풍부한 질감을 표현할 수 있었다. 넷째, 작품의 색채는 안감에서 보여지는 컬러풀한 색채와 그 안의 잔잔한 무늬들의 대비로 인하여 더욱 화려하게 나타났다. 리버스 아플리케가 된 틈 사이로 보여지는 배색 안감의 다양한 색채가 데님 소재와 잘 조화됨으로써 작품에 율동감과 생기를 더해주었다. 다섯째, 아프리카 여인의 이미지를 문양와 함께 표현함으로써 패션 이미지를 강조할 수 있었으며 기존의 선행연구나 디자이너 컬렉션에서 보여지는 아프리카 문양을 이용한 의상들과 차별화를 줄 수 있었다. 이 연구를 계기로 리버스 아플리케 기법에 대한 보다 심도 높은 연구와 데님에 관한 디자인이 단지 기법만을 이용한 표현이 아닌 새로운 이미지와의 결합으로 다양한 스타일과 실루엣의 변화로 활성화되기를 기대해 본다.;Since 21^(st) century, the combination of multicultural fashion, style and color has been a new trend in fashion industry, giving new potential and motivation toward modern fashion. Especially African art has preserved its own originality and uniqueness despite many influences from foreign culture and modern technology. Denim has been very popular regardless of age, sex or social position, and has been evolved and influenced by its age, culture and social economy. During 1960's and 1970's, youngster has started to wear torn denim to show their rebellious trend and image, and now using a various methodology, modern fashion designers has recreated the denim as a high fashion item. The research's main idea is to apply Africa's colorful and rich traditional manifestation to denim fashion utilizing 'Reverse Appliqu' methodology in order to create rich denim texture. The cloths have been patched with quilt texture with lucid and vivid color on blue/black dark denim and white denim to make clear and solid contrast on the Reverse Appliqu'd pattern. The main purpose of the research is to develop new fashion material that can leverage designer's ideas and express new fashion formula and to create unique and creative denim fashion style. The research has been based on the study of African manifestation's background, characteristics and history and image of Africa applied to modern fashion through local/global literature, thesis and Internet sites. Then denim's concept, history, characteristics and methodology as well as cases on modern denim fashion had been analyzed. Moreover Reverse Appliqu's definition, background and modern fashion cases had been researched. Based on all these, total of 8 cloths had been created applying African traditional manifestation. In order to emphasize works' silhouette and detail effectively, the design has been intended to be simple, young, live and casual. The research's conclusion is as follows. First, traditional African manifestation has its own shape, pattern and color. Especially, the pattern has very unique, symbolic and geometric motives of Africa. Africa's unique and vivid color and freestyle manifestation along with visual entertainment could be applied to modern sense easily, and recognized as one of tools to express feelings and emotions artistically beyond simple symbolic sign. Second, modern denim fashion ismore global and popular along with high manufacture technology and premium trends than ever. Denim has been evolved with its society and culture,and the needs for development of more creative and unique texture material has been increased since 21st century. Moreover denim can match with various fashion items and material and very practical. It can be leveraged on various styles such as on casual clothing as well as on formal dresses. Third, 'Reverse Appliqu' methodology has been mainly used on 'Mola' quilt it conveys handmade texture and three-dimensional effectemphasizing inner cloth color which is reflected from cut-out fabric of outer cloth. Fourth, the color of the work can be expressed more splendid and flowery through making clear contrast between rich colors and simple pattern shown from inner cloth. 'Reverse Appliqu' with combination of various color of inner-cloth and denim material has put more energy and life to the work. Finally, a personal character of African woman has been expressed along with African traditional manifestation in order to make a distinction with previous research and design works using African manifestation. Through the research, it is expected that denim design could be leveraged for new combination of various styles and silhouettes from traditional methods and designed.
