청각장애인을 위한 영상휴대전화의 사용자니즈 조사연구

Abstract

휴대전화 가입자 수는 2006년 12월 현재 42,801,160명에 달해 이제는 누구나 휴대전화를 사용한다고 할 수 있다. 휴대전화는 전 세대에 걸쳐 가장 빠르게 수용되어 왔으며 이제는 휴대전화가 없는 생활을 상상하기 어렵게 되었다. 이에 반해 청각장애인은 그동안 음성을 활용한 커뮤니케이션이 배제되어 문자메세지를 주로 이용하는 등 사용이 제한적일 수밖에 없었으며, 일반인이 편하게 사용하는 글로 문자메세지 기능을 이용하는 것은 읽기와 쓰기의 능력이 현저히 뒤떨어지는 청각장애인들에게는 그다지 편하게 사용할 수 있는 커뮤니케이션 수단이 아니다. 요즘 들어 장애를 퇴치하기보다는 우리 생활의 일부로 받아들이려는 사고가 설득력을 얻고 있지만, 휴대전화분야에 있어서는 아직까지 장애인에 대한 배려, 특히 청각장애인에 대한 배려가 거의 없는 것이 현실이다. 최근에 영상휴대전화가 출시됨으로서 청각장애인도 수화로 공간의 제약 없이 커뮤니케이션 할 수 있게 되었으나 청각장애인을 배려하지 않은 휴대전화를 청각장애인도 이전보다는 좀 더 편하게 사용할 수 있게 된 상황에 불과하다. 이에 영상휴대전화를 사용하는 청각장애인의 불편함이 있을 것으로 판단, 사용자니즈를 심층면접법을 통해 조사연구하게 되었다. 영상휴대전화에 대한 사용자니즈 조사연구 결과로는 첫째 손의 동작뿐만 아니라 얼굴의 미세한 표정까지 전달되어야 하는 언어적 특성이 있는 수화로 서로의 의사를 교환해야 하는 청각장애인의 특성을 반영하여 좀 더 큰 디스플레이 화면이 요구되며, 둘째 주변의 밝기 정도에 상관없이 수화 식별이 가능해야 하며, 셋째 음성이 아닌 양손을 사용하여 표현하는 수화의 특성을 반영하여 두 손의 자유로움이 보장되어야 하며, 넷째 소리를 들을 수 없는 청각장애인의 특성을 고려하여 진동의 강도나 무음램프의 색상 등을 다양하게 선택하여 사용하기를 원하는 것 등으로 조사되었다. 정보통신 기술의 발전뿐만 아니라 정부차원에서의 청각장애인의 커뮤니케이션 향상을 위한 지원도 강화되어야 할 것이며, 청각장애인 뿐만 아니라 가족이나 기타 청각장애인과 관계를 맺는 많은 건청인들에게도 청각장애인과 자유롭게 의사소통할 수 있는 제도적 지원도 필요하며, 장애의 유무를 떠나 모든 사람들이 사용하기 편한 휴대전화가 계속 개발되어야 할 것이다.;Since the number of mobile phone subscribers reached 42,801,160 persons in December, 2006, it can be said that mobile phone is used by everybody at present. As mobile phone has been propagated most fast in the world, the life without mobile phone is unimaginable. On the contrary, the people with hearing disorder was excluded from the communication using voice. Their use was somewhat restrictive, mainly depending on character message. Using the function character message by words that can be easily used by normal person was not so convenient to the people with hearing disorder, because they are far inferior in the ability to read and write. Though the thought to accept disorder as part of our life instead of defeating it is accepted these days, the consideration for people with disorder, especially those with hearing disorder, is very rare in the area of mobile phone. Since screen mobile phone was launched recently, the people with hearing disorder can communicate by finger language without limit in space. However, it was nothing but a situation where the people with hearing disorder can use mobile phone that did not consider them more easily than before. Judging that the people with hearing disorder who use screen mobile phone would suffer more inconvenience, the researcher investigated the user's needs through in-depth interview. The result of research on the user's needs for screen mobile phone is as follows: first, considering the linguistic property of finger language that transmits the hand motion and delicate facial expression, larger monitor is required to reflect the property of those with hearing disorder who communicates by finger language; the finger language should be discerned irrespective of brightness in the surrounding area; third, reflecting the property of finger language that uses both hands instead of voice, free use of both hands should be guaranteed; fourth, considering the property of those with hearing disorder who cannot hear sound, the strength of vibration or the color of silent lamp need to be diversified. In addition to the development in information and communication technology, the support for improvement of communication for those with hearing disorder should be also reinforced in the level of government. Further, institutional support is necessary so that those with hearing disorder, family or many people with normal hearing can freely communicate with those with hearing disorder. Irrespective of the existence or unexistence of disorder, mobile phone that can be easily used by all user should be developed continuously.
