한국 전통매듭기법을 응용한 웨딩드레스 디자인 연구

Abstract

오늘날 전통의 현대화에 대한 관심과 노력이 계속되어지는 가운데 패션에서도 전통요소를 응용한 디자인의 연구가 많이 시도되고 있다. 가장 한국적인 것이 가장 세계적인 것이라는 명제는 현대사회가 국제화 되면서 더욱 큰 관심사가 되었다. 본 연구에서는 패션디자인에 있어서 이러한 전통적 요소의 활용을 웨딩드레스 영역으로 확대시켜 전통매듭기법을 응용해 한국의 전통미를 응용한 웨딩드레스 디자인을 연구하고자 하였다. 이에 본 연구는 웨딩드레스 디자인에 있어서 전통매듭기법을 응용하되 보조적, 단순 장식적 방식이 아닌 구조적, 미적 디자인의 주된 요소로 접근하여 우리 전통의 고유미가 베어있는 독창적인 웨딩드레스 디자인 창출의 가능성을 제시함에 목적이 있다. 연구의 내용으로는 첫째, 웨딩드레스의 유래와 도입 및 변천과정을 알아보고 둘째, 전통매듭에 관한 구체적인 이해를 위하여 매듭의 정의와 역사, 종류, 기법에 관해 박물관 소장품과 실물 자료를 바탕으로 그 특징을 분석하였다. 또한 국내, 국외 패션정보지와 컬렉션자료, 인터넷자료를 통해 현대 웨딩드레스 디자인 경향과 전통매듭을 응용한 패션디자인 사례를 분석하였다. 이론적 연구와 실증적 분석 자료를 토대로 하여 한국 전통매듭기법을 응용한 웨딩드레스 디자인 작품 총8점을 제작하였다. 소재는 현재 웨딩드레스에 많이 사용되어지고 있는 실크새틴(silk-satin)과 실크타프타(silk-taffeta), 실크쉬폰(silk-chiffon), 폴리오간자(poly-organza), 튤(tulle)을 사용하였으며 색채는 White-Ivory로 그 범위를 제한하였다. 전통매듭기법의 기본적인 기법과 그 기법을 응용, 창작하여 새로운 모티프를 구성, 사용하였고, 비딩 기법을 활용해 화려함을 더해주었다. 작품제작을 통한 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전통매듭기법을 응용한 결과 서양의 코드레이스 이미지를 주어 현대적 감각의 웨딩드레스 디자인에의 응용 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 전통 매듭실인 견사가 아닌 폴리에스텔 실과 나일론실을 사용하여 매듭의 소재가 다양함을 알 수 있었고, 그 소재에 따른 다양한 표현이 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 매듭의 작은 단위 모티프는 반복 적용할 때 넓은 공간에 통합적 이미지로 구성될 수 있으며, 각각의 상이한 작은 모티프들의 경우에도 이들을 결합시켜 큰 단위 모티프로 구성할 수 있어 다양한 디자인에 응용할 수 있는 범위가 넓음을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 전통매듭의 화려한 색채를 사용하지 않고 웨딩드레스와 같은 톤의 White-Ivory컬러를 사용해 고급스럽고 우아한 재질효과를 낼 수 있었다. 다섯째, 전통매듭에 비딩을 접목함으로써 보다 화려한 표현이 가능했다. 여섯째, 실의 굵기를 다양하게 사용했을 때 창출될 수 있는 이미지가 다양함을 알 수 있었고 실의 굵기가 가늘수록 매듭기법을 세밀하게 적용시킬 수 있어 레이스 같이 섬세하고 잔잔한 재질효과를 창출시킬 수 있었다. 일곱째, 실을 걸어 바디라인에 맞게 매듭을 맺어가며 입체구성 할 수 있어 절개선 없이 의상에 접목할 수 있는 소재임을 알 수 있었다. 이상의 결과로 전통미의 요소를 현대적 감각에 맞추어 변화하고 재창조해, 소비자의 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있도록 독창적이고 차별화된 웨딩드레스 디자인 연구가 전문적으로 이루어지길 기대한다. 본 연구를 통하여 전통미의 현대화가 웨딩드레스 영역으로 확대되는 계기가 되고 전통미를 현대화 할 수 있는 다양한 표현방법이 지속적으로 연구되어야 할 것이다.;As concerns and efforts on modernization of tradition increase these days, even in fashion, the design applied with traditional elements has been studied actively. The proposition, saying the most Korean-like are the most international has come into the spotlight as the globalization process has been speeded up. In this study, as expanding the area of fashion design to apply the traditional elements, wedding dress designs added with the Korean traditional beauty through the traditional knotting technique are analyzed. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest the possibility to create an original wedding dress design blended with Korean traditional attractions by applying the traditional knotting technique not merely as a subsidiary or simple decorator but as a major factor of structural and aesthetic design. For this purpose, first, the origin and introduction of wedding dressthe Korean traditional knotting technique in depth, the definition, history, types, and techniques of knot and the features of the Korean knotting technique are analyzed based on the collection and real materials in museums; third, through examining both Korean and foreign fashion magazines, collection materials, and internet sources, the trend of contemporary wedding dress design and fashion design examples, which adopted the traditional knotting technique are analyzed. Based on theoretical researches and empirical analyses, eight designs of wedding dresses applied, which are applied with the traditional knotting technique are selected in total. Regarding the materials, the most commonly used ones for wedding dress, namely silk-satin, silk-taffeta, silk-chiffon, poly-organza, and tulle are employed and regarding a color, it is limited to white-ivory. By adopting and applying the basic technique of traditional knot, a new motif is created and through a beading technique, a more glamourous look is added. The conclusions drawn from making pieces of works are as follow: First, as a result of applying the traditional knotting echnique, the image of western cord lace is created and thus, it is assured that the Korean traditional knotting technique can be applied to the contemporary wedding dress design. Second, by using polyester threads and nylon threads not silk yarn, which is the traditional thread for knot, it is found that the materials for knot may be various and the diverse expressions can be made with a variety of materials. applied, it can form a bigger integrated image and since each small motif can form a large unit of motifs by combining the small motifs together, the traditional knotting technique can be applied to a broad extent. Fourth, the traditional knot can create a deluxe and elegant look by using the same color as a wedding dress, white-ivory rather than using colorful materials. Fifth, a more glamourous expression can be done through adding beads to the traditional knot. Sixth, it is found that there may be various images created by differentiating the thickness of threads employed for knot and for the thinner the thread is the finer the knotting technique can be applied, by using thinner threads, a sophisticated and mild effect as lace can be created. Seventh, since the traditional knot can be three-dimensionally made as knotting, fitting to a body line without any cutting, a one piece for the whole is possible. Based on the conclusions above, it is expected that hopefully original and differentiated wedding dress designs are studied professionally in order to satisfy the needs of customers by modifying and re-creating the elements of traditional beauty. Through this study, as a starting point of the expansion of the traditional beauty's modernization into wedding dress area, various expression skills to modernize the traditional charms should be continuously studied.
