Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the accuracy and the reliability of the judgement made by teachers in grading students in the subject of music. The study is an attempt to analyse and explain whether grades are given based purely on the subjective opinions of the teacher, or on the scholastic performance of the student's latent talent. It is hoped that this study will shed light on the many problems related to music grades and help improve the process of grading subjects related to music. In this study 224 junior high school students were picked as sample subjects. A standardized musical talent test was administered to them, and with the results of the test the mean and standard deviation were calculated and compared to the mean and standard deviation of the grades they had previously received from their music teachers by obtaining the correlation coefficient between the two samples. A questionnaire was then prepared and given to 300 music teachers in order to survey their response. The following conclusions were reached: 1) A definite correlation exists between the grades given by teachers and the student's musical aptitude. 2) The judgement of the teachers to a certain extent reflects the latent musical talent of the students. 3) Music classes on the whole are conducted to follow the educational curriculum. With the remaining time, singing and instrumental instructions are given. The general consensus is that grading music is relatively hard and requires a special skill. 4) Most teachers hold the opinion that the overcrowded classes is the main reason for the discrepancy between grades and aptitude. Consequently, they would like to see smaller classes, more time set aside for music, and improved facilities to resolve this problem. Thus the study revealed that the ideal approach to improving the grading process for music is to first of all reduce the headcount in the classroom and place greater emphasis on music classes in the school timetable.;本 硏究는 學校의 敎師가 評價한 學生들의 音樂點數가 과연 正確하고 信賴할 수 있는 것인지를 알아보려고 한 것으로서 즉, 音樂成績이 敎師의 주관에 의한 평가인지 혹은 지식위주의 평가인지 또는 才能까지 포함된 妥當性이 있는 評價인지를 분석하여 說明함과 동시에 音樂科 評價의 여러 聞題點을 찾아 앞으로의 評價改善에 示唆을 얻으려 한 것이다.
