선에 의한 자연적 이미지 표현

Abstract

자연은 인간의 끊임없는 관찰 대상이며, 작가는 자연 그 자체가 지니고 있는 형태와 질서속에서 자연적 아름다움을 발견한다. 작가는 자신의 개성적인 조형관으로 스스로 체험한 이미지를 형상화하여 조형예술세계를 구축한다. 실용성에서 비롯된 염색도 새롭고 다양한 조형예술로서 가치를 추구하는 작가의 끊임없는 노력으로 새로운 재료와 기법이 개발되고 그 표현양식도 다양해지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구자는 다양한 자연의 환경에 순응하면서 자연의 성장, 역사, 환경등을 압축적으로 기록·보존하여 온 나무 나이테의 형상으로부터 받은 자연적 이미지를, 염색에서 응용가능한 홀치기염과 납방염을 혼용하여 가장 효과적으로 표현하기 위한 실험적 시도를 하였다. 이를 위한 이론적 배경으로는 자연관찰과 예술의 상관관계에 의한 조형관을 고찰하고, 주로 이용된 염색방법인 홀치기염에 대하여 살펴 보았다. 이러한 홀치기염에 납방염을 혼용하며, 경우에 따라서는 에칭기법과 묘염을 추가하여 염색작품 8점을 제작하였으며, 이 작품들을 분석해 본 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자연에서 관찰된 조화로운 질서의 자연적 이미지를 연구자의 개성적인 이미지로 표현할 수 있었으며, 자연적 이미지의 참다운 추구가 예술의 근원적 의지로서 표현된 자연적 이미지 그 자체가 하나의 예술적 존재라고 이해하였다. 둘째, 자연속에서도 나무의 나이테는 보는 관점에 따라 각각의 다양한 형태를 지니고 있으며, 그 속에는 자연의 변천, 역사 및 환경등이 함축되어 있으므로 자연적 이미지를 작품화함에 적절한 소재였다고 생각된다. 세째, 홀치기염만으로 자연적 이미지를 정확하게 표현하기 어려운 섬세한 부분이나, 자연에 대한 직접적 표현이 요구되는 부분에 대해서는 납방염, 에칭기법 및 묘염을 혼용함으로서 자연적 이미지의 표현 효과를 더욱 높일 수 있었다. 네째, 작품 제작 과정에서 염료 및 섬유의 특성과 홀치기염 및 납방염등 여러가지 염색방법의 혼용에 따른 표현 효과를 다양하게 체험해 봄으로서 염색 공예의 독특한 표현 가능성이 풍부함을 알 수 있었다. 앞으로 염색방법의 새로운 혼용을 계속적인 실험으로 꾸준히 추구하여 본다면 보다 나은 염색의 다양한 표현 가능성을 발견하리라 생각된다.;Nature has been the object of constant observation for a human being. The profound beauty of natural harmony and order has been expressed variously by many artists with their original plastic will. Artists have pursued to examine the beauty within the nature, to sublimate the personal experiences into artistic expression, and to build up an orginal formative world. Especially in the dyeing craft which started with the function of the practicality, it is capable of various expression through development of materials and methods according to the ceaseless efforts which pursue the artistic value as a new and deversified formative art. Therefore, what is intended by this researcher is to express effectively natural image to the subject of nature, that is an annual ring, by using tie-dye together with batik, if necessary. As a theoretical foundation for this, I examined the original plastic will in relation to the observation of natural phenomena and the art, and studied the tie-dye. On the basis of these theorectical backgrounds, eight works has been produced by batik and tie-dye, and analyzed the works of art. The conclusions of their analyses is as follows. First, nature is the object of art and an artist do not describe nature merely as it is but express the inner images of him with diverse forms. The natural image of nature is expressed by the researcher's original plastic will. Second, as the annual ring of plants has various shapes in the nature from a different viewpoint, the annual ring has become the proper object of the expression of the natural image. Third, it is found that the batik is an other effective dyeing method in addition to tie-dye in expressing delicate parts as an annual ring. Fourth, in the process of dyeing, there were difficulties in understanding characteristics of dyeing materials and methods. It is found that the description of nature by various methods of dyeing craft can show us infinite possibilities. Consequently, I think that the possible expression of natural image can be developed infinitely through continuous further studies on the combination of several dyeing method.
