F. Stella의 작품을 응용한 도자조형연구

Abstract

Besides the clay and fire, modern ceramic artists make use of various auxiliary materials in order to express their distinct personal characters. the artist's choice of material is one of the 'object' of which his works composed. Light, which is perceptible through the human sense of sight and contrasted with darkness, has given spurs to primitive imagination and become the starting point for the instinctive value system of white and black, day and night, and life and death, and it has been finally led to the symbols of good and evil, affirmative and negative, in the mental dimension. Physical light, if it should be perceived by our own sight, shall turn into psychological light and affect our daily life. I have tried to express the originality of the cermaic art and the new will of creation by making use of light as an object and carrying out the abstract ceramic working motivated by the modern paintings. The works of F. Stella, a great abstractionist of the 20th century, which is geometrically made up of stripes, have provided motive for the ceramic artists. Stella dispalyed some shapes varying with stripes in his pictures and invented "Shapped Canvas" instead of squre canvas. My works which have been affected by the works from 1958 to 1965, characterized by the various forms of stripe-construction, have space perception in tiers and three-dimensional forms. Curves are carefully engrafted upon the geometrical and straight shapes through the use of shinging light. This study has paid special attention to Stella's view of painting in the stream of mordern arts, and presented the division of the structural works into periods. And it has also surveyed the modern of art making use of physical or psychological light. The works are made by the method of slip casting into plaster molds in order to make the best use of geometrical lines and to repeat the units. The slip of magnetic clay used in the ceramic industry was used, and the matt oil was used for the monochromatic process suitable for each work. Calcination was first done at 870℃ and second 1260℃, both with with oxidization. All kinds of arts today are concerned with one another and have been on a way to a composite art. Adjusting myself to the needs of the times, I have planned to enrich the human life with the surrounding ceramic works which made use of light and was based on Stella's structural view of painting.;현대도예는 흙과불을 기본으로 하여 작가 개성을 나타내는 작품을 표현하기 위해 부재료들을 사용함으로써 소재 선택의 다양성을 부여하였다. 작가의 소재 선택은 하나의 오브제로서 작품을 구성하는 요소로서 이용된다 빛은 인간의 시지각을 통하여 느껴지며, 어두움과 대조되는 빛은 원시적인 상상력을 자극하여 흑과백, 낮과밤, 생과사, 라는 본능적 가치체계의 출발점이 되었고, 마침내 정신적인 차원으로 옮겨와서는 긍정적인것과 부정적인것, 선과악의 상징으로 변했다. 물리적인 빛의 현상을 우리 눈으로 직접 체험하게 됨으로써 심리적인 빛으로 우리 생활에 영향을 주게 된다. 본인은 빛을 하나의 오브제로서 끌어 들여 오고, 현대회화에서 모티브를 얻어 추상적인 도자작업을 이끌고 나오므로서 도예로서의 독창성과 새로운 조형의지를 표출하려고 노력하였다. 추상주의 화가로서 20세기 미술의 거장인 F.Stella의 줄무늬선을 이용한 기하학적인 구조의 작품들은 충분히 도자작업을 할 수 있는 작가의 모티브가 되었다. 스텔라 작품은 주요 구성 요소로서 줄무늬선에 의해 변화되는 형태들이 나타났으며, 사각의 형태에서 벗어나 Shapped Canvas로서 창출 되었다. 본 연구자도 이런 줄무늬 구성으로 다양한 형태를 이루었던 1958-1965년 시대의 작품을 통하여, 평면적인 선에서 시각적인 표현이 되도록 계단식 공간감을 주었으며 형태는 입체조형물화 시켰다. 기하학적이고 직선적인 형태에 부드럽게 빛나는 빛을 이용하여 곡선적인 구성요소로서 조심스럽게 접목시켰다. 연구방법은 현대미술의 흐름속에 위치한 스텔라의 회화관을 알아보며, 구조적 형태의 작품에 의한 시대적 구분을 서술 하였다. 또 빛의 특징인 물리적·심리적인 빛의 특징을 이해하고, 이런 두 가지의 성격을 가진 빛을 이용한 현대예술 작품들을 제시하면서 서술하였다. 제작 방법에 있어서는 기하학적인 선을 이용한 형태의 특성을 살리고, 단위체의 반복을 위해 석고 원형틀을 이용한 이장주입성형 방법을 사용하였다. 소지는 자기소지의 이장을 사용 하였으며 각 작품의 단색 처리를 기본으로 주로 matt유 로서 시유 하였다. 소성은 0.3㎥ 까스가마에를 사용하여 1차는 870℃에서, 2차는 1260℃ 까지올려 모두 산화소성 하였다. 모든 예술이 하나의 흐름속에 밀접한 관계를 갖고 종합예술로서 나아가고 있다. 이론 시대의 흐름속에서 스텔라의 구조주의적 회화관을 바탕으로 하여 빛을 이용한 도자작품을 만들어 우리 공간속에 놓여지게 함으로써 생활속에서 인간의 감정이 개화될 수 있게 의도 하였다.
