TYPOGRAPHY를 이용한 레코드 쟈켓 디자인

Abstract

인간이 커뮤니케이션(communication)을 통하여, 전달하고, 전달받을 수 있는 인위적인 체계가 언어이며, 표현은 명시적인 기호인 문자와 시각언어를 통하여 이루어지게 된다. 이러한 표현요소 중의 하나인 문자는 객관적 내용을 전달하는 언어상징이며, 의미파악에 앞서 시각적 형태로 파악된다는 점에서 비언어상징이다. 이와같은 문자의 두 가지 특성을 활용한 효율적 표현과 전달기능의 확대를 통하여 더욱 효과적인 커뮤니케이션을 이룰 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 레코드 쟈켓(record jacket)을 매체로 하여 문자를 하나의 조형표현의 대상으로 표현하므로써 문자의 조형언어로서의 인식 가능성을 검토하고, 비언어적 상징성을 지닌 문자와 이에 표현자의 감각이 더해진 문자활용을 통하여 메시지(message) 전달을 강화시킬 수 있다는 것을 보여줌으로써 타이포그래피(typography)를 통한 표현영역의 확대를 모색하는데 있다. 연구의 이론적 배경으로는 커뮤니케이션의 특성과 그 도구로서의 상징에 대하여 살펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 문자의 상징적 특성과 문자가 표현재료가 되는 타이포그래피의 표현 예들을 살펴 보았다. 작품으로는 레코드 쟈켓의 제작을 통해 문자의 조형언어로서의 인식 가능성의 발견과 전달하려는 내용과 이의 시각 이미지(image)를 표현할 수 있는 문자의 조형요소로서의 접근을 모색하였다.;The artifical system that man can convey and be conveyed by communication is language, and expression can be accomplished by letter, clarifying sign and visual language. Letter, one of these expressional component, is verbal symbol in that it conveys objective substances, and non-verbal symbol in that, Prior to grasp of meaning, it is grasped as visual form. Like these, we can accomplish more affective communication, by expanding efficient expression and conveying ability, through two featrues of letter. The aim of present study is to investigate the possibility of letter-recognition as formative language, by representing letter as an object of formative expression through the medium of reeord jacket, and to grope for posslbility of expression through typography, by indicating that we can reinforce conveyance of message through utilizing let letters, added letter with nonverbal symbol to sence of expresser.
