시적언어화에 의한 일러스트레이션 표현연구

Abstract

어린이의 창조력과 상상력은 그들이 놀고, 경험하는 그 주위 환경을 토대로 발생하고 어린이들에게 있어서 생활 주변의 모든 환경과 사물은 학습과 지각과 놀이의 대상이 된다. 그러므로 간접경험을 가능하게 하는 아동 그림책이 어린이의 정서에 미치는 효과는 매우 크다고 볼 수 있다. 아동 그림책의 구성요소인, 시각적 정보전달 매체로서의 아동 일러스트레이션은 구체적인 시각경험을 가능하게 해주는 동시에 발달중인 아동의 지적, 정서적 발달에 막대한 영향을 주며 창조적인 시각을 학습시키고 동시에 상상력을 높여 주고 조형감각의 이해를 돕는다. 오늘날 다양한 아동 그림책들에서 보다 강력하고 고유한 조형언어를 필요로 하게 되었으며, 이에따라 자신만의 표현을 위한 조형적 실험과 함께 시각에 보다 강한 인상과 아동들의 흥미를 주기위한 여러가지 방법들이 동원되고 있다. 이러한 욕구와 의지는 일러스트레이션에 있어서 소재선택과 표현기법, 그리고 그에 따른 표현효과등에 깊은 관심을 갖게하는 계기가 되고, 나아가 오늘의 동화 일러스트레이션이 극도로 다양한 양상으로 존재하게 하는 근본동기가 되고 있다. 현재 아동 그림책 분야는 인식의 주변 확대, 출판의 활성화, 전문화 등으로 비교적 많은 발전을 하게 되었으며 앞으로 더욱 세분화된 장르로서 성장할 것이다 즉, 그러한 발전을 위해서는 지속적인 새로운 표현의 시도와 그림책에 대한 구체적인 분석이 이루어져야 한다. 본 연구는 그러한 구체적인 노력의 일환으로 시적언어화에 의한 '형태변형'이라는 수단을 생각해 보았다. 일러스트레이션의 표현에 있어서 시적언어화란, 보는 그대로 스토리의 내용을 객관적으로 해석하여 표현하는 것이 아니라, 형태나 색채, 혹은 질감을 이용해서 작가의 주관적인 느낌을 통한 감각적인 재해석을 표현하는 작업이다. 현대의 아동 일러스트레이션은 작가들 각자의 조형해석에 따라 다양하고 독창적인 변형(Deformation)의 표현을 통해 조형성을 추구하곤 한다. 변형이란, 형태의 비례에 맞게 충실히 대상을 재현하는 것이 아니라 어떤 의미에서 작품을 명확히 하거나 미적 효과를 높이기 위해 형태를 왜곡시켜서 표현하는 것을 말하며, 예를들어 중요한 부분은 과장·확대시키고 중요하지 않은 부분은 축소하거나 생략해서 이해하기 쉽고 독특한 조형미를 가진 형태를 표현하는 것이다. 소재표현의 방법으로서 '변형'이 갖는 의의는 다음과 같다. 첫째는 대상에 대한 작가의 주관적 해석을 가능하게 하며, 결과적으로 작가의 독창성과 개성을 보다 크게 부각시킬 수 있다. 둘째는, 왜곡된 형태가 주는 시각적·심리적 효과, 즉 미적 쾌감, 호기심, 흥미, 긴장감, 충격을 통해 '커뮤니케이션적 인상기능'을 강화할 수 있다는 점이다. 그리고 세번째는 변형을 통해 소재에 상징성을 부여함으로써 현실을 투영시킬 수 있다는 점이다. 즉, 작가는 형태를 자의적으로 변형시켜 표현함으로써 보다 극적으로 현실을 반영하거나, 상징하고 풍자하며, 또한 인간과 삶, 그리고 그것의 아름다움과 진실 등을 보다 리얼하게 보여줄 수 있다. 그림동화의 특성상 아동들에게 호감을 느끼게 하는 목적을 가진것에서는 이런 변형을 통해서 보다 친밀하게 독자들에게 다가갈 수 있는 하나의 계기가 될 수 있다. 형태변형을 통한 해학적이고 풍자적 표현 혹은 상상력에 호소하는 개성있는 표현등을 통해 아동들에게 다른 어떤 소재보다 즐거움과 흥미를 줄 수 있고 또한 아동의 주목과 호기심을 높일 수 있는 하나의 방법이 될 수도 있기 때문이다.;Creativity and imagination of children are originated on the basis of the surroundings they are playing and experiencing, and all environments and things surrounding their life are objects of learning, perception, and playing. Accordingly, it is considered that children's picture books enabling them to experience indirectly have a very huge effect on their emotion. Children's illustration as a media for delivery of visual information, which is an element of children's picture books, enables them to have a visual experience actually, has a huge effect on their intellectual and emotional development, make them learn to have creative vision, enhances their imagination, and helps them understand formative sense. Today more powerful and unique formative languages have been required in various children's picture books, and accordingly various methods are tried to give strong impression to their vision and stimulate their interests as well as to attempt formatively unique expression. These desires and wills lead to have deep interests on selection of materials, expression technique, and the expression effects in illustration, and moreover are motivated fundamentally to express the current children's illustration in extreme forms. The field of children's picture books have been relatively much developed by extension of the recognition, activation and specialization of publishing, and will be grown as a more detailed genre in future. Therefore, for this development, continuous trial of new expression and definite analysis of picture books must be carried out. This study deals with a manner of "deformation of forms'' as a part of the actual trials for the development. Modern children's illustration tends to pursue formativeness with expression of various and creative deformation by the illustrator's unique formative interpretation. Deformation does not mean representing objects faithfully suitable for proportion of forms but mean expressing forms by changing them to clarify works in one aspect or to enhance aesthetic effects in the other aspect. For example, deformation expresses forms of easy and unique formative beauty by emphasizing or magnifying an important part and downsizing or omitting an unimportant part. Meanings of "deformation" as a manner of expressing materials are as follows; First, it enables an illustrator to interpret objects subjectively, and to emphasize his or her own initiative and personality greatly. Second, the deformed form gives children visual and psychological effects like aesthetic pleasant feeling, curiosity, interests, strain, and impact, and moreover can strengthen a 'function of communicational impression.' Third, it can reflect reality by giving symbolic features to materials with deformation. In other words, illustrators can reflect, symbolize, and satirize reality further dramatically, and show people and their life, its beauty and truth really by deforming and expressing forms arbitrarily. Illustration must make a favorable impression on children by features of picture books, so this deformation can give an opportunity to access readers more familiarly. Humorous and satiric expression by deformation or imaginative individual expression can give children pleasure and interests than any other materials, and can be a method to enhance children's attentions and curiosities.
