한국적 이미지의 현대적 표현을 위한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

한국적 이미지를 표현하기 위해 전통적인 형태를 차용하는 것에서 전통을 바탕으로 한 감각 속에 내재해 있는 조형적 의지를 표현함과 동시에 세계적으로 보편성을 지닌 디자인 개발이 강조되고 있다. 한국적 정서는 민족 구성원 개개인의 범주를 넘어서 우리민족 전체에 대한 독특한 특성 내지 사회 문화 전반에 흐르는 특수성이다. 이러한 특수성은 우리의 환경에 기인하는 것으로 인간의 자연과 세계에 대한 태도를 말하는 것이다. 본 연구는 인간의 자연과 세계에 대한 태도를 보여주는 고지도를 모티브로 하여 그 속에 담겨 있는 자연에 순응하려는 정서와 미의식을 전통적인 문화에서 찾을 수 있는 선적구성, 율동성, 관조성, 순수성을 표현하는 디자인 개발의 가능성을 목적으로 하였다. 이론적 배경으로 한국적 이미지의 원형을 찾기 위해 선행연구들과 전통복식을 포함한 전통문화를 통하여 현대 디자인에서 응용될 수 있는 네 가지 미적 특징을 정의하고 현대 패션 디자인에서 이러한 특징이 보여지는 사례를 살펴보았다. 이러한 미적 특징이 고지도와 함께 현대성을 갖고 패션 디자인에서 응용될 수 있도록 고지도의 발달과정과 특징에서 보여지는 한국적 이미지를 찾기 위해서 지도가 응용되고 있는 자료들을 바탕으로 우리의 고지도가 보여주는 한국적 이미지의 응용 가능성을 살펴 보았다. 전통에서 보여지는 한국적 이미지의 미적 특징을 선적구성, 율동성, 관조성, 순수성으로 나누어 분석한 것을 바탕으로 이러한 이미지가 현대 패션디자인에서 보여질 수 있는 한국적 이미지의 특성으로 보고 실제 작품에 이 네 가지의 이미지를 표현하였다. 네 가지 이미지를 표현하는 실제 작품은 고지도를 모티브로 다양한 소재들을 잉크젯 프린팅, 자수, 핸드 프린팅, 번 아웃 등의 기법을 활용하여 현대적인 실루엣과 실용성을 지닌 의상으로 전개하였다. 색상은 지도의 문양을 강조하기 위하여 각각 blue, brown, khaki, black을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 종합하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현대 한국 패션디자인은 전통적 요소와 현대적 요소의 브리콜라지(bricolage)가 이루머지고 있다. 과거에는 전혀 혼용할 수 없었던 여러 요소들을 혼용하는 것처럼 과거와 현재, 전통과 미래가 동시에 혼합되어져서 현대적인 이미지로 보여져야 하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 전통적 이미지를 현대적으로 표현함에 있어서 이미지를 그대로 재현하는 것이 아니라 현대 사회에서 착용할 수 있도록 단순한 실루엣의 실용성 있는 디자인과 기능성을 가진 소재로 실용성과 대중성을 고려해야 함을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 다양한 한국의 이미지 중에서 선택된 특징인 선적구성, 율동성, 관조성, 순수성을 바탕으로 표현하여 한국적 이미지를 강조시킬 수 있었다. 넷째, 문화의 혼성화 현상을 반영하여 고지도라는 하나의 모티브를 사용하였지만, 서양과 동양의 요소들이 다양한 이미지로 표현될 수 있었다. 이와 같이 정립되어 활용되어지는 한국적 이미지는 디자인 분야에서 그 문화의 차별화로서 자기 정체성을 이루어 낼 수 있으며, 이러한 정체성의 확립이 세계적으로 보편성을 지닌 디자인의 개발로 귀결될 수 있을 것이다.;In order to represent Korea or Korean-like images, it is emphasized that with borrowing some traditional forms, the formative intention immanent in the sense which bases tradition should be expressed and at the same time, design of world-wide universality be developed. Korean-like sentiment is of a unique characteristic of the total Korean people beyond a category of the individual members of the Korean race and of peculiarity flowing throughout Korean society and culture. Such peculiarity originates in our environment and is characterized with a human attitude toward nature and the world. So, with a motif of an old map in that such an attitude is manifested, the purpose of this study is to grope for the possibility to develop Korean-like design in consideration of the linear construction, rhythmical nature, meditation, and purity which can be found in the traditional culture when the design expressing the sentiment and awareness contained in it, which are likely to adapt to the nature, develops. Regarding the theoretical context in this study, the development process and some distinct features of an old map were closely reviewed; based on some materials which were applied to the map, tile possibility to apply the Korean-like image that the old map shows was closely observed; and finally those conditions through which the Korean-like image could be modernized was suggested in this study. Based on such a theoretical study, 9 pieces of work were produced in which techniques and themes were utilized in variety and the beauty of the map was manifested with a simple silhouette well showing the body line. In those pieces of work, the natural characteristic, a result of the theoretical context, was emphasized; with the natural characteristic being extended to a contemporary value, a practical theme was pursued. Synthesized results of this study are as follows First, in those pieces of work produced in this study, it was intended to show both the past and present and both the tradition and future at the same time, with mixing those elements which could not be utterly mixed in the past. Second, it is deemed that the practicality required in modern life should be emphasized in design and themes. Particularly, in materials or themes, the material bringing various expression by functionality and post-processing should be developed in consideration of practicality and popularity. Third, in those pieces of work, with choosing some Korean-like images, those decorative elements could be partly utilized. Fourth, with the phenomena of 'cultural mixing' being reflected in those pieces of work, Korean-like images could be represented in variety. And it is expected that the Korean-like images such established and utilized can achieve their identities with distinctive culture in the field of design. Establishment of such identity can be resulted in development of the design which is characterized with world-wide universality.
