한국 전통 춤사위의 역동성에 의한 선묘염 연구

Abstract

Entering a new millennium, the life and culture of modern man has been encroached upon by cyber culture and media technology. Standing against these trends, people are increasingly turning to naturalistic humanism and especially to Oriental thought. Emerging from the stereotyped and restricted tendencies of modernism, art itself is becoming more flexible, natural and liberal. The current international trend of fine arts and design is also moving toward a new understanding of traditional cultures based on the Oriental mindset. Taking this into account, I will make an attempt to visualize the dynamic images of Korean traditional dance with the strokes of Oriental painting, and inquire further into the possibility of a new textile design. To achieve these objectives, I started by investigating the characteristics of Korean traditional dance, and then studied its ideas and the aesthetics of its movement. I observed the formative features of the lines created by the dance and their function within the space to visualize the linear elements of its basic movement. I also examined the validity of visualizing the dynamic images of dance with the lines of Oriental painting, by studying the features of pictorial lines and comparing the linear expressions of Eastern and Western paintings. Finally, I tried to introduce the dynamics of the dance into a textile work based on the above theoretical background, and made an attempt to create a new style of textile design through a computer mapping technique. The results are as follows: First, I found that Korean traditional dance was the art of celestial spirits in order to embrace the universe and that it had an aesthetic consciousness facing towards an ideal world overcoming all regret. A dynamic of harmonious alternation between tension and relaxation emerges from the dance with joy and regret commingled in it. I discovered I could create a visualized formative beauty through these dynamic movements. I also learned that, although the expression of dance was different from that of painting, there was a possibility to visualize the dancing movements through the shared elements of line. Second, I could naturally blend the dynamic movements of dance with the powerful brush strokes of Oriental painting to introduce the image of dance into textile work. The unrestricted lines of Oriental painting were found suitable for expressing the impromptu and non-stereotyped aesthetic consciousness of Korean traditional dance. Third, I realized that the contemporary trend' of art and design could be I could attempt to considered to have a foundation in Oriental ideas. expand the techniques and concepts of textile design by visualizing the basic movements of Korean traditional dance, not through the eyes of the West, but through our own spirit of Oriental painting. I hope the results of this study serve as an opportunity to broaden the aesthetic consciousness of textile design and to popularize Korean traditional culture.;새로운 천년을 맞이하는 현대인의 삶과 문화는 사이버 문화, 미디어 테크놀러지 등에 의해 잠식되어 왔다. 이러한 경향들 속에서 자연주의와 휴머니즘, 특히 동양사상을 갈망하는 마음은 커지게 되었다. 예술에 있어서도 도식적이고 제한적인 모더니즘의 경향에서 벗어나 부드럽고 자연적이며 자유로워지기 시작하였다. 또한 현재의 미술사조와 디자인의 세계적 트랜드가 동양적 사상에 기반을 두고 전통 문화를 재인식하려는 경향이 짙어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구자는 한국 전통 춤사위에서 보여지는 역동적 이미지를 동양화의 필법(筆法)을 사용하여 섬유위에 시각적으로 조형화하고 더 나아가 새로운 텍스타일 디자인의 가능성을 살펴보고자 한다. 이제까지의 도식화된 문양 위주의 디자인보다는 회화적인 표현을 통하여 텍스타일 디자인의 기법을 확장하고 전통 춤사위라는 소재를 통하여 보다 현대적인 표현 의지를 전개하고자 한다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 우선 한국 전통춤이 갖고있는 특성 연구를 통하여 춤을 분류해보고 춤의 사상, 춤사위의 개념과 그 미의식의 역동성을 살펴보았다. 그리고 춤사위의 선적인 요소를 섬유 위에 시각화하기 위한 이론적 배경으로써 일반적으로 무용에 나타나는 선의 조형적인 특징과 작용을 통해 공간에 나타나는 선의 심리적 효과와 미적 표현 능력을 살펴보았다. 또한 무용에 나타나는 신체의 움직임과 신체 자체가 선적인 요소들로 될 수 있는 특징을 살펴보았다. 위의 이론적 배경을 통하여 회화에서의 선의 조형적 특징과 연관지어보았다. 또한 회화에서의 선의 특성을 고찰하고 동 서양화에서 선의 표현을 비교 해 보았다. 이와 함께 동양화 선(線)의 기법을 통해 춤사위에 나타나는 역 동적 이미지를 섬유 위에서 시각화하는데 있어서 그 타당성과 연관성을 살펴보았다. 그리고 디자인의 전 세계적 트랜드가 동양 문화에 기반을 둔 이시점에서 한국적 이미지를 부각할 수 있는 길을 모색하고 성공한 예를 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 위의 이론적 배경을 토대로 하여 춤사위의 역동성을 작품으로 제작하고 컴퓨터 맵핑 작업을 여성 어패럴에 시도하여 텍스타일 디자인의 새로운 시도를 모색하였다. 이에 대해 예상되는 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전통 춤사위는 우주를 포용하는 천상지향의 높은 경지의 예술인 동시에 한을 초월하여 이상세계로 나아가는 미의식을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 내면에서 우러나오는 흥과 한이 어우러진 춤에서 긴장과 이완을 적절히 배합한 역동적인 움직임을 통해 시각적 조형미를 창출해낼 수 있었다. 그리고 전통춤은 비록 회화와는 표현하는 방식이 다르지만 선이라는 시각적 표현방법의 공통요소를 통해 춤사위의 조형화를 모색할 수 있는 연관성과 타당성이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 작품제작에 있어 춤사위의 이미지를 효과적으로 표현하기 위해서 춤사위의 역동적 움직임을 동양화의 선을 이용하여 자연스럽게 표현할 수 있었다. 서양화의 선이 존재하는 형의 외곽을 정확하게 표현한다는 점에서 다분히 설명적이나 동양화의 선은 대상의 외부적 재현보다는 그것에서 받은 영감과 본질의 느낌을 표현할 수 있다는데 그 중요성을 둔다. 본 연구자는 춤사위의 완벽한 형태의 재현보다는 그 사위에서 느낄 수 있는 역동적이고 즉흥적이며 자연스러운 무기교적 기교를 내포한 미의식을 조형화 하고자했다. 그러므로 서양화의 선보다는 동양화의 기운 생동한 필선이 본인의 연구에 합당하다는 것을 알았다. 셋째, 한국 문화의 한 갈래인 전통 춤의 춤사위를 통해 표출된 이미지를 디자이너의 심성을 통해 패턴화 시킴으로써 공예의 본래 목적에 부합되는 장인정신이 돋보이는 예술적인 패브릭(fabric)을 생산할 수 있는 가능성을 모색하였다. 넷째, 여성용 어패럴에 예술적인 패턴을 적용시킴으로써 기존의 리피트(repeat) 패턴과의 시각적 차이를 확인하여 창의적인 패턴의 시각화를 창출 하였다. 뿐만 아니라 디자인 분야에서 국가 경쟁력을 높일 수 있는 길은 서구 문화의 모방 또는 답습이 아닌 전통 문화에 대한 우리의 정체성을 확립하고 나아가 현대적 감각에 맞고 서구인들의 공감대를 불러일으킬 수 있는 창의적인 텍스타일 디자인을 개발해야 한다는 점이다. 이 연구 결과로 인해 텍스타일 디자인의 의식을 넓힘과 동시에 관념적인 주제와 장식적이고 도식화된 패턴을 넘어서 창의적인 패턴을 창출하고자 하며, 전통의미를 주로 하여 조형요소를 시각적으로 표현할 수 있는 방법을 연구하였다. 또한, 우리의 전통에 대한 깊은 이해와 연구를 통해 전통문화에 대한 선입견을 버리고 관심을 불러일으켜 텍스타일 디자인 산업이 세계적인 경쟁력을 갖기를 바라며 본인의 연구가 하나의 조그만 기틀이 되었으면 한다.
