인체 근육(muscle)의 선(line)적 조형미를 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

자기개성추구가 하루가 다르게 급변하는 가운데 현대사회에서는 차별화되고 개성을 잘 나타낼 수 있는 디자인을 추구하려는 경향이 더욱 강해지고 있다. 이러한 경향과 함께 현대디자인에서는 인간중심의 감성 공학적인 인테리어, 몸에 맞춰진 가구디자인, 인체구조에서 모티브를 따온 디자인들이 보다 조형적으로 표현되고 있다. 인체의 과학적인 구조와 복잡성은 인체가 지닌 아름다움과 병행하며 오래전부터 레오나르도 다빈치와 같은 미술가들이 인체의 해부학에 관한 연구로 인간의 삶과 존재를 깊이 있게 관찰해왔다. 현대디자인에서는 인체의 형태와 개념을 해부학적 측면으로 재해석하여 독특한 기법과 다양한 상상력을 발휘하여 새로운 시각으로 디자인되고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 볼 때 인체는 새로운 디자인 발상의 원천이 된다. 특히 인체근육의 섬세한 선들은 의상에 조형적 디자인 모티브로 접목하는데 좋은 소재가 된다. 이에 본 연구는 인체근육의 선들을 조형적 디자인 모티브로 의상디자인에 응용함에 있어서 반복적으로 배열되거나 교차된 독특한 근육선의 특성을 표현하는데 끈소재를 개발하여 이를 끈자수기법으로 응용하였다. 즉, 끈소재를 다양한 배열로 구성하여 자수함으로써 섬세한 근육선의 표현과 풍부한 시각적 표면질감을 작품에 나타내고자 하였다. 근육선의 흐름에 따라 끈소재를 의상에 표현함으로써 새로운 조형미를 가진 현대의상디자인을 제시하는 데에 그 목적을 두고 있다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법으로는 인체해부학을 의학 및 미술학적 자료에서 근육에 대해 고찰하고 근육의 선들을 조형적으로 분석하여 의상에서 선의 표현이 어떻게 발전되어왔는가를 살펴보았다. 또한 작품사례를 수집하여 근육의 이미지와 선의 다양한 표현기법과 종류를 분석하고, 현대의상디자인의 사례에 나타난 새로운 기법의 끈과 응용방법에 대해 알아보았다. 이를 토대로 인체해부학에서 근육을 모티브로 의상디자인에 응용하여 선적인 조형미에 입각한 디자인으로 작품을 제작하였다. 인체근육의 선을 표현하는데 채택된 끈으로 소재를 개발하고 응용하여 다양한 스타일의 작품을 제작할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 이론적 고찰과 총 8벌의 작품제작을 통하여 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인체 근육에 나타난 독특한 선의 조형적인 특성을 작품에 응용함으로써 대칭선들에 의한 균형감과 반복선, 교차선, 방사선 및 중첩선에 의한 다양한 선의 조형미를 창출하게 되어 새로운 디자인의 발상을 가져올 수 있었다. 둘째, 작품의 장식소재로 끈을 사용함으로써 근육과 같은 가늘고 긴 선의 성격과 함께 유연성의 특성을 가지고 있어서 직선과 곡선으로 자유롭게 표현될 수 있었다. 또한 끈이 지닌 두께감을 통하여 풍부한 부조적 표면질감을 나타낼 수 있었다. 셋째, 작품의 표현기법으로 사용한 끈자수기법을 통하여 근육의 선표현에 있어서 다양한 굵기와 질감을 지닌 끈을 가죽, 노방 등의 대비되는 질감의 소재위에 머신스티치로 견고하게 부착시킬 수 있었다. 여러 가지 종류의 끈이 가진 특성에 따라 작품마다 스타일이 색다르게 표현되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 넷째, 바탕소재와 끈의 조화에 있어서는 투명과 불투명의 질감대비 또는 흑백의 명도대비를 활용함으로써 근육선의 흐름을 효과적으로 표현할 수 있었다. 이를 통하여 소재와 끈의 새로운 배합에 따라 독특한 의상소재로 조형미를 극대화 시킬 수 있었다. 이상과 같이 본 연구의 결과로 근육의 선을 끈자수기법으로 표현함으로 조형예술로써 작가의 독창성과 개성 그리고 선의 간결미를 표현할 수 있는 현대적인 의상디자인 제작에 기여할 수 있는 중요한 디자인적 요소를 제공할 수 있었다. 그리고 끈자수기법을 활용하여 작품을 제작하는 과정에서는 올이 풀리는 브레이드는 양끝을 봉제하기 전에 열처리를 했고 둥근 코드나 파이핑끈은 서로 겹쳐지면서 소재가 두꺼워져서 기계로 마무리봉제를 할 수 없는 부분은 손으로 마감처리를 했다. 끈의 유연성도 한계가 있어서 근육선의 배열에 맞추어 의복구성선을 재단했고 깔끔한 선의 표현을 위해 끈을 소재에 먼저 스티치하고 마무리봉제를 했다. 따라서 끈소재의 활용에 있어 효율적인 방법의 개발과 연구가 필요할 것이다. 이를 통해 지속적인 끈에 대한 새로운 관심과 다양한 표현 기법 및 재료 개발에 관한 연구로 새로운 조형미를 가진 현대 의상디자인이 더욱 발전되길 바란다.;The biological structure and complexity of human body have been studied by the artist such as Leonardo da Vinci through the human anatomy and observed human life and existence. In modern design, unique techniques and imaginations are derived from the reinterpretation of human body shapes in aspects of human anatomy. With this concept’s in mind, the final designs were based on the formative aesthetics of muscle lines researched from human anatomy. It was possible to design variety of styles with selection and application of braids that have been developed to best express the muscle lines in human body. The braid embroidery techniques allowed repetitive arrangements of braid to represent flat and embossed surface textures. Following conclusions have been derived from this research study and production of 8 garments. Firstly, a new concept of design can be possible from creating a balance from symmetric lines and other recursive, crossing, circular and piled up lines to represent the very unique characteristics of body muscle lines. Secondly, with the characteristics of flexibility and various thicknesses of braids, it is possible to represent freely on the linear and curved lines along with the embossed surface texture of muscles. Thirdly, as for the embroidery technique to represent the muscle lines, various braids in different thickness and texture can be machine-stitched on contrasting materials such as leather and organza. Depending on the characteristics of braids used, they display different styles in each garment. Lastly, with the combination of base material and braid in contrasts such as transparent and opaque textures or brightness in black and white, it is possible to represent the flows of muscle line effectively. Also this unique combination can achieve the formative aesthetics at its maximum. With stated in above, presentation of the muscle line from braid embroidery provided the new element in modern fashion design for the designer to express her originality and brevity in formative art. While creating the garments using embroidery technique, the braid with loose strands are heat treated at each ends. When the round cords and piping straps are overlapped, they will make the material thick and it will be impossible for the machine stitching. Hence these areas are hand stitched. There is a limitation with braids in flexibility hence the garments have been tailored along with the alignments of the muscle lines and to present sharp lines, braids are stitched to the base materials first then sewed up last. Therefore in regards to the application of various braids, further research and development is required and from that continuous interests and variety of representation with new materials would lead to a revolutionary modern fashion design with formative aesthetics.
