마담 그레의 작품 특성에 근거한 의상 디자인 연구

Abstract

Nowadays, the rapidly changing fashion world has been in chaos due to so much information and vogue. In this period, it is the very designer, who can lead the rapidly changing fashion world with a distinct aesthetic sense and subjective designs as well as will be a leader of the high-graded and diversified fashion world by increasing the level of consumption due to the high growth of economy, we require. This study is attempted to review, on the basis of general research for Madame Gres (1903∼1993), her style and aesthetic sense and to examine an origin of the influence that has made them continue beyond periods. And, this study is to suggest the design that applies aesthetic features as well as strengthens the practical functionality. As methodology and contents of this study, this study was focused on the previous studies and literatures relating to fashion and art history, the interview with Mr. Kuwagata Mitsuhiro of Yagi group that currently holds a license of brand Gres, and 『Madame Gres』 by Richard Martin and Harold Koda as curators that planned and- exhibited her works in the New York Metropolitan Museum concerning the world of her works. The researcher examine the fashion world of Madame Gres. a couturier. who not only re-created classical beauty of the ancient Greece into her own style in the early stage of the 20th century defined as a period of the general public but also have affected until now and inspired to the international fashion world continuously. And, the researcher designed a highly value-added and practical dress that can show the genuine role of houte couture on the basis of findings of this study. As theoretical backgrounds, this study examined the influence of the Greek clothing in works of Madame Gres and an aesthetic sense of respect for the human body as well as the current of dress and its ornaments in 1930's between the World War Ⅰ and Ⅱ i.e. Art Deco that appeared centered on fiance in the early stage of the 20th century, dominated the whole decorative art in a connection with tradition in the period, established 'harmonization with various cultures', and took the position of the original stream of the modern design. And, on the basis of drapability and ornaments by shirring as formative features of Madame Gres's works, the researcher attempted to make a work by applying her works' elegance, romantic and classical images, and delicate and unique shirring and drapery manually. With respect to making the work, the draping technique was used to express a suitable drapability of materials and direction of shirring effectively, and the hand painting technique was used for dyeing. The work of this study was composed of a coat, formal jacket and skirt, evening gown, match of casual jacket and one-piece or blouse and slacks, and blouses for various co-ordinations. Materials used in the researchers' work were jersey, silk, and flimsy cashmere considering drapability to make practical clothes reflecting features of Madame Gres's works. Findings of this study are as follows. First, the Greek clothing based on respect for the human body has had an influence on the current fashion world over thousands of years as a beautiful fashion style. The reason why the world of Madame Gres's clothes can evoke the same aesthetic sympathy in the world is that her clothes were based on humanism. On the basis of draping technique, the researcher could express the natural formative beauty by division suitable for ratio of the human body. Second, in expressing the beauty of the human body, drapability has merits as an element of design expression as well as ability as an endless motive of ornaments in clothing by application with various forms and methods. Therefore, studies on a draping technique will allow development of fashion into the highly value-added industry. Third, the researcher could show various formative expressions in the researcher's work by materials and application method - elegant drapability of cashmere and jersey that seems to flow down or a feeling of volume in poly materials. Fourth, the researcher could apply simple silhouette of respect for the human body and delicate shirring ornaments with straight and curved line as features of Madame Gres's works to collar, cuff, and pockets partially or bodies entirely in order to express the beauty of woman effectively. In summary, this study was attempted to design clothes with artistic and functional aspect together by making the works with application of features of Madame Gres's works and gave an opportunity to experience a variety of expressions from examining drapability. If future, studies and development of drapability should be performed continuously to enhance highly added value of fashion products.;급변하는 요즘의 패션세계는 너무나 많은 정보와 유행 속에서 혼돈의 시대를 겪고 있다. 이러한 시대에 개성 있는 미적 감각과 주체성 있는 디자인으로 빠르게 변화하는 패션 세계를 주도하며 고도의 경제 성장으로 인한 소비생활의 향상으로 고급화, 다양화된 패션 세계의 주체가 되는 디자이너가 요구되어지고 있다. 본 연구는 마담 그레(Madame Gres 1903~1993)에 대한 총체적인 연구를 통해서 마담 그레의 스타일과 미의식이 무엇이며, 그것이 시대를 초월해서 지속되고 있는 힘의 원천은 어디에 있는가를 규명하고자 한 것이다. 또한 마담 그레 디자인에 미적 특성을 응용하되 실용적 기능성이 강조된 디자인을 제시함에 목적이 있다. 연구 방법 및 내용은 선행 연구와 패션 및 미술사 관련 문헌을 중심으로 연구를 하였으며, 현재 브랜드 Gres의 라이선스를 가지고 있는 야기(Yagi)그룹의 Mr. 쿠와가타 미츠히로(Kuwagata Mitsuhiro)와의 인터뷰 와 마담 그레의 작품 세계에 관하여 뉴욕 메트로폴리탄 뮤지엄에서 그녀의 작품 세계를 기획, 전시하였던 큐레이터 리차드 마틴(Richard Martin)과 헤롤드 코다(Harold Koda)의 『Madame Gres』를 중심으로 이루어졌다. 이러한 연구의 결과를 토대로 대중의 시대로 정의되는 20세기 초반 고대 그리스의 전통적인 아름다움을 자신의 스타일로 재창조하였으며, 현재에까지 그 영향력을 미치며 세계패션의 지속적인 영감이 되는 꾸뛰리에 마담 그레의 패션 세계에 대한 연구를 통하여 오뜨 꾸뜨르의 진정한 역할을 보여주며, 이를 통한 고부가가치의 실용성 있는 의상을 디자인하였다. 본 연구의 이론적 배경으로는, 마담 그레의 작품에서 보이는 그리스 복식의 영향과 이로 인한 인체존중의 미의식 및 20세기 초반 프랑스를 중심으로 생겨나, 전통과 접목하여 20세기 초 장식 예술 전반을 지배하며 '다양한 문화와의 융합'을 이루었으며, 현대 모던디자인의 원류가 되었던 아르데코(Art Deco), 1, 2차 세계 대전 사이의 30년대 복식의 흐름을 그 시대적 배경으로 하였다. 또한 마담 그레의 작품의 조형적 특성인 드레이프성과 주름에 의한 장식을 토대로 그녀의 우아함, 로맨틱, 클래식의 이미지와 수작업에 의한 섬세하며 독특한 주름과 드레이퍼리를 작품 제작을 통하여 시도하였다. 작품 제작에 있어서 소재의 적절한 드레이프성과 주름의 방향등의 효과적인 표현을 위해 입체 재단법을 이용하였으며, 핸드 폐인팅에 의한 염색을 함께 사용하였다. 작품의 구성은 코트, 포멀 자켓과 스커트, 이브닝 가운, 캐주얼 자켓과 원피스 또는 블라우스와 바지의 매치, 그리고 이들의 다양한 코디네이션을 돕는 블라우스들로 이루어졌다. 사용된 소재는 드레이퍼리 한 효과를 고려하여 저지, 실크, 얇은 캐시미어 등의 소재를 사용하여 '마담 그레'적 요소를 가진 실용적 의상을 제작하였다. 이러한 연구 과정을 통하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인체존중에 근거한 그리스 복식은 몇 천년이 지난 현재까지도 여전히 아름다운 패션의 한 형태로 그 영향을 미치고 있다. 마담 그레의 의상 세계가 세계적으로 같은 미적 공감대를 형성할 수 있는 것 또한 인본주의에 그 토대를 두었기 때문이었다. 이를 토대로 한 입체재단의 방법을 통하여 인체의 비례에 맞는 분할로 자연스러운 형태미를 표현 할 수 있었다. 둘째, 인체의 아름다움을 표현하는데 있어서 드레이프성은 여러 가지의 형태와 방법으로 활용에 따라 복식의 무한한 장식의 모티브로써 가능성과 디자인 표현의 요소로써 그 장점을 가지고 있으며, 드레이핑 테크닉에 관한 연구는 패션을 고부가가치의 산업으로 발전시킬 수 있을 것이다. 셋째, 작품의 소재에 있어서는 캐시미어와 저지의 우아한 드레이프성과 중조직의 폴리 소재에서 느낄 수 있는 볼륨감과 같이 소재의 특성과 그 응용방법에 따라 다양한 조형적 표현이 가능하였다. 넷째, 마담 그레의 특성을 이루는 인체 존중의 심플한 실루엣과 직선과 곡선의 섬세한 주름 장식을 칼라, 커프, 주머니 등의 부분적으로, 또는 바디스 전체에 응용하여 여성의 아름다움을 표현하는데 효과적인 디자인 요소로 활용 할 수 있었다. 이러한 마담 그레의 연구과정을 통해 예술적 측면과 기능적 측면을 겸비한 의복 디자인의 가능성을 작품제작을 통하여 시도하였으며, 드레이프에 대한 연구과정을 통하여 그 표현 방법의 다양함을 경험하고, 이에 대한 연구와 개발은 패션상품의 고부가가치를 높이는 한 방법으로 지속적인 발전이 필요하다.
