앨범사진에 나타난 가족의 정체성에 관한 연구

Abstract

가족앨범은 가족의 일상적인 삶의 기록물이며, 혈통의 시각적 계보이다. 다시 말해서 앨범사진은 때때로 우리가 실제 얼굴에서 쉽게 간과하고 넘어가는 그 무엇인가를 드러내 보여준다. 그 무엇이라는 것은 가족 구성원 사이에 흐르는 유전적인 특성을 의미한다. 이런 혈통적 유사성은 골격이나 생김새에서 나타나는 형상적 이미지와 표정이나 인상이 풍기는 내면적 이미지로 나타난다. 따라서 본 연구는 이런 이미지가 앨범 사진을 통해 어떻게 드러나는 지에 대한 탐구에서 그 출발점을 모색해 보고자 한다. 먼저 개인에게 내재되어 있는 형태적·인상적 이미지가 세월의 변화 속에서 어떠한 이미지로 정착되어 가는지를 살펴보고, 아울러 가족이라는 울타리 안에서 이 이미지가 얼마만큼의 유사성을 보여줄 수 있는지를 파악해 보고자 한다. 주제의 효과적 표현을 위해 몽타주 기법을 이용한 복수프레임을 사용하였다. PHOTOSHOP을 이용하여 한 화면 안에 두장을 병치시키거나 혹은 여러 장의 사진을 배열함으로써, 시·공간적 영역의 확장을 꾀함과 동시에 가족 구성원간의 종적 횡적 관계를 더욱 명확하게 밝혀보고자 한다. 더 나아가 본인과 유사한 맥락에서 작업한, 동시대 작가인 맥닐(Wedndy MacNeil)의 작품세계를 살펴보고, 구체적인 관점에서 본인의 작업과 비교, 분석해보고자 한다. 기본적으로 본인과 맥닐이 추구하고자 하는 세계는 시간이라는 비물질적이고 영속적인 개념과 그 속에서 한시성을 드러내는 인간의 삶에 대한 역사를 가족이나 가까운 사람들을 통해 초월해 보고자 하는 시도이다. 여기 제시된 일련의 사진은 본인의 가족 앨범에서 과거의 일상적인 가족 스냅샷과 오래된 정식 스튜디오 포트레이트를 발췌하고, 그중 일부를 동일한 시각에서 재현하여 그 두 사진을 병치의 형식으로 비교하였다. 또한 스냅들과 신체에서 따낸 각 부분들을 모아 몽타주함으로써 개인의 과거나 가족관계, 그리고 유전적 특성까지도 묘사해보고자 하였다.;A photo album of a family is a true history of its living. It exists as a medium that records the past, reflects the present and analogizes the future. In an album, infinite fragments of dailylife are arranged and summarized in order. The purpose of this study was to define the meaning of family again and reveal the blood homogeneity among the members of family by reviewing infinite images in the photo album related to the big frame of family. Therefore, derived images from the two points of time, that is of already existed past as a starting point and of the existing present, were compared with each other an analyzed. This study is a comprehensive investigation of the changing aspects of person and family in accordance with the pass of time. We can find the root of a family by making a genealogical record of horizontal, vertical relationship through photos selected from the past and their representation. In a modern society, the significance of family declines more and more by the industrialization, tendency toward nuclear family and urbanization. The author of this study tried to recognize anew the importance of family that accounts for in a society by making a shape the meaning of family into photographical images. If this study can have a visual genealogical value related with the history of family, future studies should continuously follow. So the author wishes future studies can expand the subject of study from the limited two generations to the three and find out ways to compare, analyze the identity of family and express it in new and diverse forms.
