말총(horse-hair)소재를 활용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

Modern fashion industry is turning to pursue the value of more original and artistic clothing aestheticsm, avoiding commercial competition and the repetitive prodution of uniformed fashion, At the same time, it is necessary to develop various clothing materials, and technique with the revival of natural materials and attatchment to the past's hand-made clothing production. This study introduced traditional high level expression technique to clothing by refinding natural materials, horse-hair, which becomes to be forgotten in our country's traditional clothes and garment's history. Also, I examined the expression possibility characterustics and beauty of horse-hair as the new fabric natural materials and studied its activation. As a theoretial background, Korean traditional horse-hair arts and crafts are studied and analyzed, and the physical, modeling characterustics of horse-haired materials are examined. Also, examples of utilizing horse haired materials in fiber art and clothing, the perspective and values of horse-haired materials are viewed. I produced total eight works based on this, and pursed a clothing design expressing new originalty and high dignity through the process of choosing materials to emphasize transparancy, one of the biggest elements of horse-hair, analyzing and readapting the expressional technique of Korean traditional arts and carfts. The results of this study are as follows. First, Korean traditional horse - hair art and crafts technique and high level hand-made production are suitable for a Iuxurious clothing design. Second, horse-hair materials are very light, strong, against friction, smooth to the touch, and can be dyed into various colors, and especially, they are strong in water. Third, modeling characteristics when horse-haired materials are made into textile by knitting and weaving are transparency, flexibility, and softness, and they made more various and effective modeling structure possible. Forth, the transparancy of horse-haired material could be maximized by the combination with transparent material, overlapping and repetition. Fifth, utilizing our traditional technique and unique dignity of horse-haired material in clothing made proping for value added material possible In this study, the excellent plasticity and functionality of Korean traditional horse-hair arts and crafts are studied, and natural material, horse-hair, accompanied by human history, is aIso reviewed to adapt it to clothing design. This rediscovery of natural material and making handcraft into clothing should be comtinuously of dress and its oraments and I hope creating high value added horse-hair as material having both functionality and platicity with high degnity will be made.;현대 의류 산업은 날로 팽배해가는 상업주의의 경쟁과 획일적인 유행의 반복적 생산에서 탈피해 보다 독창적이고 예술적인 의상조형미의 가치를 높이 추구하는 방향으로 선회하고 있다. 동시에 자연소재의 복귀와 과거의 수공 의상 제작에 대한 애착이 부활되면서 다양한 의상의 소재와 기법 등의 표현 양식의 개발이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 산업과 과학의 발전에 따른 부산물로서 무한한 소재의 홍수라 할 수 있는 현대에서 특히, 우러나라 전통 복식사에서 그 존재가 잊혀져 가는 말총이라는 천연의 소재를 재 발견하고 전통 말총 공예의 고난도의 우수한 표현 기법들을 의상에 도입하였다. 이로써 말총 소재의 특성과 아름다움, 풍부한 표현가능성을 조명하고 그 활성화를 연구하였다. 이를 위한 이론적 배경으로 한국 전통 말총 공예를 조상 연구, 분석하고 말총 소재의 물리적, 조형적 특성을 알아보았으며 섬유 예술과 의상에의 말총 소재의 활용 예를 살펴보고, 말총 소재의 전망과 가치를 조명하였다. 이를 근거로 총 8벌의 작품을 제작하였으며, 한국 전통 말총공예의 표현 기법의 분석과 재 응용, 말총의 조형적 특성 중 가장 큰 요소인 투시성을 강조하기 위한 부소재의 선택과 조합의 과정을 거쳐, 새로운 독창성과 고급스러운 품격을 표현하는 의상 디자인을 추구하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 전통 말총 공예의 표현 기법과 고난도의 수공은 고급 의상 디자인의 표현에 적합하였다. 둘째, 말총 소재는 매우 가볍고 마찰과 수분에 강하며 뛰어난 광택과 우수한 가염성을 지녔다는 섬유 물리적 특성을 가지고 있었다. 셋째, 말총 소재를 짜거나 엮어서 직물로 만들었을 때의 조형적 특성은 투시성과 광택, 탄력성 등으로 보다 다양하고 효과적인 조형 형태 구성이 가능하였고, 말총 소재를 활용한 복식의 제작에 있어서 투시성은 중첩과 반복, 다른 비치는 투시적 소재와의 조합에 의해 극대화 될 수 있었다. 넷째, 현대 복식 디자인에 있어서 우수한 전통 표현 기법을 재 발견하여 응용하는 것은 현대와 조화된 한국의 독특한 복식미 창출의 의미가 있다. 다섯째, 말총 소재만의 독특한 품격을 의상에 활용하는 시도는 새로운 고 부가 가치 소재로의 모색과 전망을 가능케 하였다. 본 연구는 말총 소재라는 인류와 그 역사를 같이한 자연 소재를 재 조명하고 한국 전통 말총 공예 기법의 우수한 조형성과 기능성을 연구하여 의상디자인에 활용하였다. 이러한 우수한 전통 표현 기법의 재발견과 수공 복식의 복귀는, 복식의 가치와 예술성을 높이는 작업으로 계속해서 시도되어야 할 것이며, 기능성과 고 품격의 조형성을 겸비한 소재로써의 말총 소재의 고 부가 가치가 창출되기를 기대한다.
