기타계 예술계열 고등학교 기악 전공생의 전공악기 선택에 영향을 미치는 제반요인 조사연구

Abstract

많은 연구들이 악기 선택에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 악기의 음색 선호도, 악기의 성별 연합, 연주의 질, 자아상의 효과, 악기의 외형적 조건 및 주위 환경의 영향을 제시하였다. 그 중 대부분의 사람들에게 인식된 음악에서의 성역할 고정관념 즉, 악기의 이미지 또는 음색의 특징에서 기인하는 성별 연합은 악기의 선택에 중요한 요인이라고 지적하고 있다. 본 연구는 현재 예술고등학교의 기악 전공생들의 전공악기 선택에 영향을 준 요인과 악기 및 음악 활동에 대한 성역할 고정관념의 영향을 조사하고자 한다. 특히 남녀에 대한 성역할 기대의 현저한 차이를 보이는 우리나라의 사회적 특성에 비추어 볼 때, 전공악기 선택에 영향을 미친 주요 요인으로서 악기의 성별 연합을 파악하고자 하는 것은 흥미로운 것일 수 있다. 본 연구는 기악 전공생들의 전공악기 선택시 적성과 소질에 부합하는 올바른 악기관의 요인들을 제시하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 기악 전공생들의 전공악기 선택 요인을 파악하기 위하여 기타계 예술계열 고등학교 중 4개교의 기악 전공생 총 497명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 설문지는 1997년 7월부터 11월에 걸쳐 작성되었으며, 통계처리는 SAS Package를 이용하여 이표본 t검정 및 Pearson의 상관관계 분석을 사용하였다. 연구 결과, 기악 전공생의 전공악기 선택에 영향을 준 요인으로 남학생은 본인의 의지 (37.9%), 부모의 영향 (31%) 등의 순으로 나타난 반면, 여학생은 부모의 영향 (42.3%), 본인의 의지 (33.5%) 등의 순으로 나타났다. 그 다음으로 '선생님', '친구', '형제·자매 및 친척' 등의 영향 순으로 나타났다. 자녀에게 전공악기를 권유한 부모님의 이유로는 자녀의 소질 고려 (48.1%), 음악 대학 진학 목적 (16%), 자녀의 의견 존중 (11.1%) 등의 순으로 나타났다. 그러므로 부모가 자녀의 전공악기 선택을 권유한 이유 중 악기의 성별 연합 즉, 성역할 고정관념에 별 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 전공악기를 선택한 본인의 이유로는 남학생과 여학생 모두 '음색을 좋아하므로' 라고 응답함으로써, 악기를 선택한 본인의 이유 중 음악적 요인인 음색 선호도가 가장 큰 비중을 나타냈다. 그 다음으로 부모님의 권유, 'TV에서 유명 연주가의 연주 모습이 매력적이므로', '전공악기의 외형이 마음에 들어서' 등의 순으로 나타났다. 또한 본인의 전공악기 선택 이유 중 악기의 성별 연합에 별 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 남학생은 여학생에 비해 악기의 성별 연합에 영향을 받은 것으로 나타난 반면, 여학생은 남학생 보다 주요 독주 악기이므로 악기를 선택한 것으로 나타났다. 전공악기와 동일한 악기를 연주하는 연주가의 연주 모습의 성별 연합은 남학생의 경우 본인의 성별과 일치하는 경향을 보인 반면, 여학생은 중성적인 성별 연합을 나타냈다. 전공악기를 연주하는 본인의 연주 모습의 성별 연합은 남녀 모두 중성적인 경향을 보였으나, 남학생의 경우 남성적인 성별 연합의 경향을 나타낸 반면, 여학생은 중성적인 성별 연합의 경향을 나타냈다. 여성적인 성별 연합을 나타내는 악기는 하프, 플룻, 피콜로 및 가야금이며, 중성적인 성별 연합을 나타내는 악기는 피아노와 오르간, 바이올린, 비올라, 첼로, 오보에 및 클라리넷으로 나타났다. 남성적인 성별 연합을 나타내는 악기는 더블 베이스, 트롬본, 바순, 호른, 색소폰, 튜바, 타악기, 심벌즈 및 징으로 나타났다. 여성적인 성별 연합을 나타내는 전문 음악 직업은 반주자, 음악 교사이며, 중성적인 직업은 현악 수석 연주자, 합창 지휘자, 관악 수석 연주자, 관현악단 악장, 음대 교수로 나타났다. 남성적인 성별 연합을 나타내는 직업은 사물놀이패 리더, 관현악단 지휘자, 타악 수석 연주자로 나타났다. 기타계 예술계열 고등학교의 기악전공생의 가장 선호하는 음악 직업으로는 전문 연주가가 아닌 음대 교수로 나타났으며, 그 다음 순위로 독주자, 실내악 연주자, 관현악단 수석 연주자, 음악 프로듀서 순으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 대상 가운데 여학생의 비율이 남학생에 비해 절대 다수를 차지함으로써 전공악기 선택에서의 성역할 고정관념의 남녀차의 절대적인 비교는 실행될 수 없었다. 앞으로의 연구에서는 남녀의 비율을 동일하게 설정한 연구가 수행되어야 한다.;Many studies have suggested that timbre preferences, gender association, performance quality, self-image, the figures of musical instruments are the factors affecting the choice of musical instruments. Particularly gender association derived from the general characteristics of the instrument was pointed out to be an important factor in choosing a musical instrument. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors influencing the choice of majoring musical instruments among instrumental music majors focus on the effect of sex-role stereotype on musical activity. For the purpose of this study, 497 high school students who are majoring in instrumental music were selected from four different art schools. The response of the questionaire were collected from July 1996 to Nov. 1996, and the statistic treatment was done using SAS package, Two-sample t Test and pearson products-moment correlation. As a result, male students were affected by their own will (37.9%) than parents influence(31%) whereas female students were more influenced by parents(42.3%). The following factors were 'teachers', 'friends'. It was found that parents recommended the musical instrument to their children by musical talents rather than sex-role stereotype. The timbre preferences was the major reason for the high school music major to choose their majoring musical instruments. The following reasons were parents' recommendation, renowned musician's performance on TV, and the appearance of majoring musical instruments It also found that one's own choice was not influenced by the gender association of musical instruments. However, male students were more influenced by gender association than female students. In the case of gender association with their performance both male and female students showed neutral trends. The musical instruments showing feminine gender association were harp, flute, piccolo and Kayakum. Others showing neutral gender association were piano, organ, violin, viola, cello, oboe and clarinet. The musical instruments showing masculine gender association were double bass, trombone, bassoon, horn, saxophone, tuba, percussion, cymbals and ging. The vocations showing feminine gender association were an accompanist, and music teacher. The neutral gender association turned out to be the first string player, chorus conductor, orchestra conductor and music professor. The vocations that student's most prefered was a music professor, not a professional player, followed by a solist, a chamber orchestra player, the first player of an orchestra, and music producer. The proportion of female students among the subjects were absolutely high, so that the comparison between male and female students in this study couldn't be overemphasized. The fairly proportioned subjects between male and female were recommended for the further research.
