조선 후기 민화의 표현적 특성을 응용한 패션 일러스트레이션 연구

Abstract

현대는 정보화시대로서 다양한 정보 매체가 등장하고 있으며, 신문ㆍ잡지ㆍTV뿐만이 아니라, 인터넷 정보망을 통해 정보의 세계화가 급속히 이루어 지고 있다. 패션 산업에 있어서도 정보화는 생존의 필수적인 요소이며, 문자정보 이외에도 이미지 정보의 중심적인 역할을 하는 패션 일러스트레이션은 최근 새로운 인식과 그것이 지닌 다각도의 의의와 표현에 관해 폭넓게 연구되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 한국적인 미와 민족적 정서가 집약적으로 표출된 민화의 특성을 조형적으로 분석, 패션 일러스트레이션으로 표현하되 대중 매체인 컴퓨터 표현 기법과 접목시켜 한국적 이미지가 반영된 현대 패션 일러스트레이션을 제작하는데 목적을 두며, 나아가 패션 일러스트레이션의 표현 영역을 확대하고 한국 전통 민화의 가치를 재조명 하고자 한다. 작품제작을 위한 이론적 배경의 전개과정은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 민화의 이론적 고찰에서는 민화의 기본적인 개념과 유형을 살펴보고 민화의 생성에서부터 발달에 이르기까지 민화의 역사와 유형별 분류, 그리고 민화를 응용한 패션 일러스트레이션의 제작을 위해 민화를 대표할 수 있는 표현적 특성들을 분석 연구한다. 둘째, 패션 일러스트레이션의 이론적 고찰에서는 패션 일러스트레이션의 개념과 역사를 시대의 변천 과정에 따라 살펴보고, 패션 일러스트레이션의 기능과 표현기법을 현대 작품을 중심으로 알아본다. 셋째, 패션 일러스트레이션과 민화에서는 민화가 가지고 있는 일러스트레이션적 기능성을 살펴 봄으로써 민화가 패션 일러스트레이션에 접근될 수 있는 가능성을 살펴보고, 이상과 같은 민화의 특성을 응용한 일러스트레이션과 패션 디자인 사례를 제시한다. 이상과 같은 이론적 배경을 기초로 하여 한국 민화를 응용한 패션 일러스트레이션 작품 총 12점을 제작하였다. 민화의 세부적 특징이 시대별로 조금씩 다르게 나타나기 때문에 본 논문에서는 그 시기를 조선 후기로 한정하였다. 방법적인 면에 있어서는 디지틸 정보화 시대에 부응하여 대중에게 친숙한 언어인 컴퓨터 프로그램을 이용해 일품 제작이 아닌 판화와 같은 다량 복제가 가능하도록 하였고, 각 작품마다 모티브를 설정하여 이를 바탕으로 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구의 작품제작을 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조선 후기 민화가 가지는 그 자체의 자유로운 발상과, 소박하고 꾸밈없는 미적 특징은 아름다운 한국의 이미지를 표출 시킬수 있는 표현 모티브로서의 가능성을 지니고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 민화 색채의 기본이 되는 오방색의 색채 대비적 특성은 일러스트레이션적 표현을 하기에 적절한 요소 중의 하나로 그림을 더욱 산뜻하고 생명력 있게 표현해줄 뿐만 아니라, 시각적으로 강하게 어필할 수 있는 특징이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 민화에 나타나는 자유분방한 다싯점은 현대 서양 미술의 큐비즘적 성격과도 같은 맥락을 가지고 있음으로 해서 민화가 현대성이 가미된 패션 일러스트레이션으로 표현되기에 적절하였다. 넷째, 민화의 모티브가 지니는 본래의 스토리를 패션 일러스트레이션에 도입 작품의 전개 및 의상 디자인 측면에 까지 활용함으로써 이야기 거리가 있는 패션 일러스트레이션 표현의 가능성을 보여 줄 수 있었다. 다섯째, 현대인들의 상용 매체인 컴퓨터 그래픽 프로그램은 민화의 도안적, 도식화적인 특징을 표현하기에 적합하였으며, 이를 통해 현대인들이 보다 쉽게 한국 고유의 이미지 표현에 접근할 수 있는 매체임을 알 수 있었다. 본 논문은 조선 후기 민화의 표현적 특성을 패션 일러스트레이션화 하는 과정에서 민화가 현대인들의 요구를 적극적으로 수용할 수 있는, 현대인들의 미감에 적합한 이미지를 창출해 낼 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다. 이러한 관점에서 한국 민화를 비롯한 한국의 전통적 요소를 응용한 패션 일러스트레이션을 계속 체계적으로 연구, 발전시켜 나간다면, 세계속에서의 '한국적' 패션 일러스트레이션으로서의 정체성을 확립할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.;Today's modern people live in the age of mass communication and interationalization where a lot of information is provided by the media such as the internet, newspaper and TV. Also, in fashion industry, information is very important following the globalized fashion trend, and fashion information is being used most ofen, expressed as fashion illustration. The necessity of newly recognizing fashion illustration is broadly studied in the field. Starting from this point of view, this study has a purpose to creat popular and modern fashion illustration reflecting korea image, by examining the value of folk painting and fashion illustration and applying its characteristics to fashion illustration. The process of developing the theoretical background for creating work is as follows. First, the theoretical examination of folk painting looks a t the basic concept and type of folk painting and the characteristics that represent folk painting for making fashion illustration applying folk painting, including the history and type of folk painting. Second, the theoretical examination of fashion illustration according to the process of change and see fashion illustration of both function and the technique of expression. Third, fashion illustration and folk painting examine the fashion illustration of folk painting to see the possibility of making folk painting approach fashion illustration and apply the folk painting to illustration and fashion. Based on the theoretical knowledge as written above, I made 12 pieces of fashion illustration work using Korea folk painting. Since the charactristics of folk painting differ in each time period, this paper limits the time to late Chosun dynasty. In terms of methodology, this paper uses computer programs familiar to the public and I made those works based on the motives selected for each work. The following are the result of this work. First, I realized that the naturalism and modeling characterisics of folk painting in late Chosun dynasty have the possibility of creating an Korean traditional image as a motif. Second, the five colors and complementary colors that folk painting has are one of proper elements for illustrational expression, and they make painting look fresh as well as giving a story visual appeal. Third, multi viewpoints presented in folk painting communicate with the cubism of western painting, and folk painting is appropriate for' fashion illustration with modern senses. Fourth, I suggest that the story of Korea folk painting suit fashion illustration as a motif. Fifth, the computer graphic program was appropriate for expressing the design of folk painting, and this shows that it is a good composite of helping modem people approach Korea tradition more easily. This paper suggests the possibility that folk painting creates a proper image for modern people and it positively accepts demands of modern people in the process of making the late chosun dynasy of folk painting into illustration. In this sense, I think that fashion illustration applying folk painting will find its position as 'Korean' fashion illustration if we keep studying systematically this fashion illustration as the importance of fashion illustration is getting bigger.
