자아심상의 초현실주의적 도자표현 연구

Abstract

Materialism and its effect on people's psychology, has played an important role in altering our contemporary art history. It has been one of the major influences which introduced new styles in art. When we look at the art works of the past, they appear as being simple duplications of nature derived from the most basic acts of creation. This began to take a different turn by becoming more rational and scientific in its methods. Different objects became ideas for creating an imagery. Art requires a harmony of both a rationalized observation and an advanced skill to express it. Contemporary art has always tried to break existing boundaries to find new styles in expression. By doing this, art continues to advance a step further. In other words, through surrealism our innermost self which is embedded deep down in our unconsciousness, is expressed. We are searching for ways to deny the liberation of our idealistic and rational psyche by opening new exits. In the past, great emphasis was put on formalities in art. Today there are many movements to find new and optimistic ways of solving our problems in art. Before considering the realities, the possibilties and after result of impulses, it is important to think about our capabilities in our imaginations that can surpass both time and space. The images of objects, concepts and situations which are embedded in our unconsciousness, should not remain repressed by space and time. The study aims to express one's psyche and inner images by using clay. All the incidents in our everyday life are revised to open a new world of imagination. This further enables us to move into dreams to find peace and comfort to create an exciting imagery. This study has researched on surrealism to express one's unconscious mind. It has looked at the works of many surrealist artists and also the written works of Sigmund Freud, particularly his analysis on dreams. Any object or incident, in one's psyche has been expresed in clay - strawberry, paper-boat, bread, flying broomstick, bird, chair, present box, small house, shoes, hat and so on. These have been transformed to different images which tell a story. The slip-casting, pinching and sculpting methods have been incorporated to make the work. A celadon clay body, a mixed body and a porcelain clay body were used. The first firing prolonged for 8 hours reaching a temperature of 850 degrees celsius, in a 1.5m gas kiln. The second firing was for 9 hours and it reached a temperature of 1250 degrees celsius. This was an oxidized firing. The study examines the inner psyche of one person very carefully. It Provides an opportunity to look into oneself to discover many Possibilities in creating an imaginary picture. This has opend new boundaries for future research to develop different expressions in clay. This has been examined carefully. Most of the work was made using a stoneware clay. In Work 2, for a better glaze effect, the white stoneware body was mixed with a celadon clay. For the Works 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 a white stoneware clay was used to create a smooth surface. The Work number 10 was slip-casted using a porcelain clay. A black glaze was applied on at first, then it was partially wiped off. Coloured glazes were applied onto this surface. Different colours were added to a matt-white glaze. The first firing prolonged for 8 hours reaching a temperature of 850 degrees celsius. The second firing was for 9 hours and it reached a temperature of 1250 degrees celsius. The work was oxidized. Works 1 and 2 were put into a third oxidation firing. This reached a temperature of 1000 in 6 hours. All firings were conducted in a 1.5 m gas kiln. In the designing process, preliminary drawing were made to show the development of the designs. Floral structures created many new ideas that could be translated into vases. Also the psyche, emotion, culture and the experiences of an artist contributes to the whole form of an object. Continuous trial and error in creating a design gave effective results in transforming an ordinary flower into something special. This study will be a useful background research for future developments on this subject.;물질문명은 현대 미술사에 있어서 인간의식에 바탕으로 발전되어 조형적 양식 창조의 한 수단으로서 중요한 역할을 해왔다. 과거의 미술이란 외적 자연대상물 그대로 재현하는 조형행위로 부터 현대는 합리적이고 과학적인 방법으로 사물을 대상화 하여 이미지를 부여함으로써 표현되었다. 예술가들의 창조의 욕구, 조형의지는 새로운 미술사로 이어져 현대까지 지속되고 있다. 초현실주의는 인간의 내면세계에 깊이 자리잡고 있는 무의식의 세계를 표출함으로써 인간 정신의 해방을 위한 이상적이며, 합리주의적인 사고 방식을 부정할 수 있는 새로운 탈출구를 열어주었고, 프로이드가 꿈의 해석을 통해서 보여준 새로운 탐구를 통하여 인간의 무한한 상상력을 확장 시켜주었으며, 미술에 있어서 형식적인 것을 핵심으로 여겼던 이전의 여러 미술운동에 비해 보다 긍정적인 제시로서 새로운 주제의 문제를 등장시켰다. 즉 의식과 무의식, 육체와 정신이라는 외부와 내부세계 사이의 부자연한 경계를 없이하며 새롭고 명백한, 그러나 도외시 되었던 잠재의식의 영역을 인간에게 새롭게 제시하였다. 본 연구는 체험 속에서 얻어지는 계획된 충동, 사실 전후를 따지기 보다는 솔직히 그 보다 더 가깝게 접근되는 것을 시간과 공간을 초월한 상상력의 세계라고 인식한다. 따라서 잠재된 사물, 의식, 사건 등을 공간과 시대적 개념에 얽매이지 않는 체험 등, 흙을 통하여 자아의 심성 연구에 관심을 갖고, 일상 생활속에서 지나쳐 갈 수 있는 경험들을 재인식하고 상상의 날개를 덧붙여 꿈속으로 들어가 자유와 안식을 찾아 떠나가는 형상 표현을 도자예술로 나타내는데 연구 목적으로 두고 있다. 본 연구의 내용은 잠재된 의식의 표현에 바탕이 될 초현실주의를 연구하고, 작가들을 살펴보며, 프로이드의 꿈의 분석 그리고 도예에서 초현실을 근거로한 작품들을 알아본다. 이미지 전개 과정에서는 일상생활의 경험속에서 본인의 심상에 영향을 주었던 소재 - 딸기, 종이배, 식빵, 하늘을 나는 빗자루, 새, 의자, 선물상자, 작은집, 구두, 모자-를 형상화를 이루고, 변형하며, 도시의 이미지를 나무상자를 이용하여 타 재료가 주는 이질감으로 표현하여 작은 이야기를 만들어 보고자 한다. 제작방법은 석고틀을 이용한 이장주입성형, 핀칭성형, 속파기, 판성형을 하였고, 태도는 산청토, 송추의 조합토, 수퍼화이트를 사용하였으며 산청토와 조합토에는 화장토를 덧발라 안료의 발색이 잘 표현되도록 하였다. 소성은 1.5㎥ 도염식 가마에서 8시간 동안 최고온도 850℃에서 1차 소성 하였고 2차 소성도 1.5㎥ 도염식 가마에서 9시간 동안 1250℃에서 산화 소성하였다. 주관적인 나를 확인하고 이를 재 인식할 수 있었던 계기를 마련하였다. 초현실 주의에 나타난 오브제의 본래의 의미를 흙의 구체적인 접근을 통하여 흙의 질감이주는 긴장감과 자유로운 표현방법으로 정형화된 일상적인 사물들과 예상밖의 여러형태들을 자유로운 설치 방법으로 표현하였다. 순간적인 내면의 자유로운 이미지를 찾아 즉흥적이고 유회적인 표현을 거침없이 제시하여 본인의 꿈속세계의 무대를 연출하였다. 더불어 자아의 감정과 원초적인 충동에 사로잡힌 삶의 표현에 대하여 하나하나의 형상 속에서 무엇이 한 인간을 보편적인 인간으로 만드는지 작업을 통하여 고민 해보았고 문제의식으로 남아 있다. 본 연구에 이어 후속 연구자들이 더욱 발전적이고 창의성 있는 연구와 방법을 시도하여 새로운 조형세계를 열어 나갈 수 있는 기회가 되었으면 한다.
