인도의 터번을 응용한 현대 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

20세기에 들어와서 정치학자나 사회학자들은 고도 산업 사회를 다원 사회(pluralistic society)라고 규정 하였다. 즉, 경제적 풍요로 인한 여가 시간, 기술의 급속한 발전, 교육의 대중화는 취향에 맞는 문화를 선택할 수 있는 문화적 다원주의를 낳았다. 이러한 문화적 상황 아래 20세기 말의 민속풍의 유행 경향은 타문화를 수용하고 이해하고자 하는 다원주의적 가치관의 변화가 반영된 것으로 민족 고유의 스타일이 현대 의상디자인에 많은 영향을 미쳤다. 이중 인도는 혼돈속에서 조화를 이루는 매력 때문에 현재까지도 많은 디자이너들에게 영감의 원천이 되고 있다. 이러한 인도의 다양한 미적 가치는 21세기를 향한 디자인 모티브의 한 흐름으로 계속되어질 것이다. 이에 본 논문은 이러한 인도에 초점을 맞춰 그 대표하는 복식중 하나인 터번을 이해하고 이를 의상에 효과적으로 응용하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 현대 복식의 디자인 영역 확대에 본 연구의 목적을 둔다. 우리나라의 디자인 연구 부문에서 아직까지 따로 연구 된 바가 없었던 터번을 본 논문의 모티브로 활용함은 현대 복식에서의 새로운 모티브 확대에 그 의의가 있다고 본다. 그리하여 본 연구자는 터번을 의상에 활용함에 있어서 디자인적 예술성과 실용성을 동시에 추구하며 현대적 이미지가 반영된 새로운 디자인 창조를 모색하고자 하였다. 연구과정별로 특징적인 것을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 제 1장에서는 연구의 목적과 방법을 제시 하였다. 제 2장에서는 본 연구의 이론적 배경인 터번에 대한 개념, 발생 배경, 각 국가별 터번의 특징과 인도 터번의 특징 비교, 인도 터번의 발생 배경, 유형적 특징, 보편적·특징적 연출 기법을 중심으로 여러 연구가들의 연구 자료등을 발췌, 정리, 분석하는 방법으로 전개 하였다. 제 3장에서는 현대 의상디자인에 있어서 터번의 표현 요소가 반영된 사례를 분석, 전개 하였다. 제 4장에서는 위에서 정리, 분석한 것을 토대로 인도의 터번을 현대적으로 응용하여 제작한 8점의 작품을 전개 하였는데 터번의 매는 방법에 따른 보편적·특징적 연출법을 재구성하여 디자인에 도입하고 이를 효과적으로 표현하기 위해 소재에 불규칙 주름을 잡아 활용 하였다. 제 5장에서는 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과를 서술 하였는데 그 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인도의 터번은 종교적 계기로서 남성미와 권위의 상징이었다. 그러나 두형을 따라 둘러 감는 형식은 불규칙적인 자연스러운 주름을 만든다. 이러한 주름은 선적 조형미를 강조함으로써 여성스러운 아름다움을 자연적으로 나타내 주기 때문에 엘레강스한 패션 이미지로의 디자인 응용에 적합 하였다. 둘째, 터번과 같은 형식을 복식 디자인으로 활용하기 위해서는 가시적인 외적 형태만을 의상에 도입하기엔 한계가 있음을 인식 하였다. 따라서 터번의 연출기법에 초점을 맞추어 그 보편적·특징적 연출법을 의상의 구조에 따라 재구성하여 현대적 실루엣으로의 디자인을 유도 함으로써 예술성과 실용성이 가미된 디자인이 가능하였다. 셋째, 재질감의 표현에 있어서는 터번의 착용 방식에서 자연스럽게 형성되는 불규칙 주름을 응용하여 소재에 주름을 잡았다. 이러한 불규칙 주름을 원하는 형태로 고정하기 위해 접착심지를 이용함으로써 터번의 착용방식에서 오는 주름의 표현이 가능함을 확인 하였다. 넷째, 불규칙 주름에 접착 심지를 이용 하는 과정에서 주름의 원하는 형태를 핀으로 고정한 것, 시침실로 고정한 것, 일자형 불규칙 주름을 그대로 고정한 것 등의 다양한 시도를 통해 한가지 아이템 안에 봉제선 없이 두가지 이상의 주름 표현이 가능함을 확인 하였다. 터번과 같은 민속 복식을 현대적으로 활용함에 있어 가시적인 외적 형태만을 의상에 도입하기 보다는, 민속 복식에 대한 올바른 인식을 확립하고 체계적인 연구와 분석이 선행된 후에 현대적 실루엣으로 재구성하여 새로운 창조가 이루어져야 함을 인식하였다. 또한 터번에 관한 연구 자료가 절대적으로 부족한 현실을 통감하며 앞으로 민속 복식에 대한 연구가 지속적으로 이루어 지기를 기대한다.;In the early part of 20th century, a political scientist or a sociologist defined a high industrial society as a pluralistic society. Namely, a spare time owing to an economic wealth, a rapid development of technology and a popularization of education brought forth a cultural pluralism. Under the cultural circumstance like such, a trend of folk look in the end of 20th century is what a change of pluralistic value trying to accept and understand other culture was reflected. And the unique style of each nation influenced much on modern fashion design. Among these nations, india has been a source of inspiration to many designers up to now owing to attraction forming a harmony in a confusion. Such a diverse aesthetic value of india will be continued as a flow of design motive toward 21st century. Accordingly, the thesis focussed on india, and intended to understand a turban which is one of its representative clothes and to apply it to fashion effectively. An object of the research is an enlargement of design field of modern clothes through above. An use of turban, which has not been studied separately yet in the fashion design study, as a motive of the thesis has the meaning in the magnification of new motive of the modern clothes. Therefore, the researcher pursued beauty of art and a practicality at the same time, thereby wished to find a new design creation being reflected a modern image. The characteristics according to each research procedures are as follows. In chapter 1, an object and method of the research are provided. In chapter 2, a concept of turban, an occurrence background, a comparison between a characteristic of other countrys turban and that of indian turban, an occurrence background of indian turban, a characteristic of each type and universal and special expression technique, Which is a theoretical background of the research are described, and it is developed by the method of selecting and arranging of a research material of many researchers. In chapter 3, an example being reflected a representation of a turban in a modern clothes design is analyzed and developed. In chapter 4, eight products made by using modernly the indian turban based on the above arrangement and analysis are provided, and the universal and special expression technique according to a method of tying the turban was reconstructed and introduced into the design, and they utilized irregular wrinkle of material in order to represent it effectively. In chapter 5, results obtained by the research are described, and the content of them are as follows. At first, the indian turban was a symbol of a manly beauty and an authority because of a religious reason. However, a form which surrounding around the head shape makes irregular and natural wrinkles. These wrinkles show naturally a womanly beauty because they emphasize a formative beauty of line, and they are adaptable to design application as an elegant fashion image. At second, the researcher recognized that it is a limitation to introduce a visible external shape only into a clothes in order to utilize the form of turban as a clothes design. Thus, the researcher focussed on the expression technique of turban, reconstructed this technique according to a structure of the clothes and lead the design to the modern silhouette, thereby the design including both the beauty of art and the practicality was possible. At third, in regard to expression of the quality of the material, adapt an irregular wrinkle being formed naturally in wearing method of turban and thereby made the wrinkles in material. By using adhesion trim in order to fix the irregular wrinkle into a desired form, the researcher confirmed that the expression of wrinkles according to the wearing method of turban was possible. At fourth, during a process of using adhesion trim for the irregular wrinkle, the researcher did a various trial, for example fixing the desired form of the wrinkle by a pin, fixing the desired form of the wrinkle by tacking, fixing the irregular wrinkle of straight type as it was, and so forth, thereby confirmed that at least two expressions of wrinkles within one item without a sewing line was possible. On the contrary to a tendency of introducing only a visible external shape into the clothes in order to a modern utilization of a folk clothes like the turban in these days, the research established a correct recognition with regard to the folk clothes and recognized that a new creation for globalizing of our design should be accomplished after a systematical study and analysis. Also, the researcher fully realize a status which studying material with regard to the turban is absolutely insufficient, expect that a research on the folk clothes will be continued from now on.
