수공제작에 의한 스카프 디자인 연구

Abstract

18세기 말, 영국에서 일어난 산업혁명은 전 세계적으로 빠르게 파급되어 그 시대 사람들의 문화와 삶의 방식 전체를 구조부터 변화시켰다. 우선 수공예 생산체계는 기계를 이용한 대규모적 생산체계로 바뀌게 되었고 이에 대량생산, 대량소비의 시대가 열렸다. 이런 상황에서 서구의 경우 길드를 중심으로 하던 전통적 수공업은 파괴되었고 공예도 상황에 맞추어 기계 생산의 방식을 취하지 않으면 안 되었다. 즉 동길, 동형, 대량생산의 공예로 바뀌었으며 그것이 현대 공예의 표준이 되었다. 그러나 그동안에도 수공예 정신이 이 기계공예에 계속적인 영감과 활력을 제공해 준 것은 결코 무시 할 수 없는 사실이다. 그런데 산업혁명이 일어난지 200여년이 지난 오늘날 우리는 또다시 '새로운 산업혁명'의 물결을 맞이하고 있다. 이제 현대의 소비자는 대량생산 제품의 몰개성에 반발하고 다변화된 요구를 드러내고 있는 것이다. 의,식,주에 걸친 모든 것이 지나치게 획일화 되어가는 현대 문명에서 자신만의 독특한 것을 찾으려는 욕구가 팽배함은 어쩌면 당연한 일인지도 모른다. 따라서 이런 욕구는 자연히 수공예에 대한 관심으로 돌려질 수 밖에 없다. 가장 기계문명이 발달한 나라인 미국, 일본 등에서 수공의 붐이 일찍부터 활발히 일어났었던 사실은 그러한 상황을 시사해 준다. 특유의 정서와 감성으로 근대생산기술에 의한 공예속에 보존 되어지고 있던 수공예의 전통은 깊은 반성과 현대 소비자의 요구 속에서 다시금 빛을 발하고 있다. 이같이 대중의 요구가 변하고 있는 오늘날의 추세에, 공예의 역할은 매우 중요하다고 하겠다. 염색공예 또한 새로운 소재와 기법이 복합적 사용으로 다양화 되었고 실용을 떠난 감성적인 작업들에서부터 공에 본연의 임무에 충실한 장식과 실용성을 갖춘 생활공예에 이르기까지 그 영역이 실로 방대하며 계속 확대되고 있다. 또한 공예가가 산업 디자이너와 연대하여 개성적인 제품 개발을 담당하기도 하는 일도 점점 증가하고 있다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 본래 인간의 생활에 기반을 둔다는 공예의 본질을 살려 장식성과 기능성을 고려한, 그리고 개성화된 시대가 요구하는 고부가가치의 염색공예품으로서 스카프를 제작하고자 하였다. 스카프는 현대사회에서 자신만의 개성을 연출하는데 있어 그 중요성이 갈수록 두드러지고 있는 패션 아이템이다. 스카프는 다채롭고 자유로운 예술적 감성을 내포하면서도 실용성을 겸비하고 있다. 이러한 특성으로 인해 폭 넓은 조형적 다양성을 가지는 것이 가능해질 수 있는 것이다. 이에 본 연구자는 가장 전통깊은 염색공예의 한 방법인 Tie-dye 기법을 응용하여 기계로 대량생산된 제품과는 구별되는 독창적인 형태의 스카프를 제작하려고 한다. 이는 쓰는이에게 과거 모든 것이 수공으로 이루어졌던 시대의 향수를 불러일으켜 주며 창의적인 요소를 요구하는 "감성적 디자인"을 원하는 현대인들의 기호에 다가가기 쉽다. 그러나 일단은 생활속에서 활용 할 수 있는 실용성과 미적인 기준을 모두 만족시키는 염색공예품을 제작하는데 목적을 두고자 한다. 인간의 생활과 밀착된 것이 공예 본연의 모습이기 때문이다. 이러한 목적에 따른 연구로서 현대 사회에서의 공예의 위치에 대해 이론적으로 고찰하고 작품제작에 있어 주로 사용된 Tie-dye의 기법과 효과에 대해 전통과 현대를 포괄하여 문헌조사를 통해 알아보았다. 그리고 스카프의 개념과 형태, 스카프 디자인에 관해 개략적인 이론을 살펴본 후 작법에 임하였다. 이는 현대적 감각에 맞는 생활공예품으로서 실지로 사용 가능한 스카프 제작을 목표로 하고 있기 때문이다. 그 결과 전통적인 수공예 기법인 Tie-dye의 미가 현대에서도 무한이 개발 가능함을 알게 되었다. 재료가 가진 촉감적 질김을 표현해 주는 데 매우 효과적이므로 독창적인 표현에 적합하였다. 개성을 추구하는 현대인들의 심리에 수공품인 스카프의 시도는 상품성의 가능성이 있음을 알게 되었다. 스카프는 일상적인 품목 중에서도 자유로운 표현을 하는데 비교적 용이하므로 공예품으로서 개발에 많은 연구가 요구되며, 본 작품도 생활용품으로서 예술성과 상품성을 동시에 가질 수 있게끔 노력하였다. 이상의 연구가 미적 가치가 높은 공예품을 창작함과 동시에 우수한 상품성을 만족시킬 수 있는 연구라고 생각하며 이것을 바탕으로 아름다움과 실용성을 겸비한 스카프 디자인의 새로운 장르의 창작과 개발에 지속적인 노력을 기울이고자 한다. 그리고 스카프 이외에도 섬유를 소재로 한 공예품은 그 영역이 무한이 넓으며 이것을 계속적으로 개발해가는 것이 섬유공예가들에게 주어진 과제라고 생각하는 바이다.;When the Industrial Revolution broke out in England in the end of the 18 centurey, which was based on the huge capital, the developed scientific technology and the rapidly increased population, it totally changed the structure of culture and life style of people at that times. Most of all, the era of the mass consumption began, for the existed small-scaled handicraft could not meet the enormous demand from the huge population. Under these circumstances, the destruction of the traditional handicraft based upon night to the logical conseauence, and the industrial art couldn't help the mechanization. Though these kinds of change that also meant the severance of the art of individuality caused the richness in terms of the material quantity, it also caused thefalling off the quality of works. Some people showed the strong dissatisfaction to this deterioration. but the mechanization and the mass production were unavoidable trends. But the fact that the industrial art was inspired by the sprit of the handicraft could not be ignoble. Now, after two hundreds years after the industrial Revolution. we are facing the new waves comparable to the ''New Industrial Revolution". Today consumers repelling to the lack of individuality of the mass products are showing the various needs. It may be the natural that consumers are seeking after something unique in the world of uniformity in food, clothing, and shelter. Therefor those kind of need can not but turn up to the interest in the handicraft. The fact that the boom in handicraft has showed up in the most industrialized countries such as America and Japan is full of suggestions. The unique emotional tradition of the handicreaft hidden in the needs of the today consumers. Under the circumstances of the changing consumers' needs, the industrial art has been playing very important roles. The dyeing industrial art also makes variations in the materials and techniques, and the area of that is expoanding from the emotional works having no practical use to the pragmatic works answering the purpose of both utility and decoration simultaneously. And the artists, joint with designers, often take charge of developing the characteristic products. But, in this study, to meet the own purpose of the industrial art, a scarf was made as a high additional value product in dyeing industrial art answering the purpose of both utility and decoration. So this research worker planned to make a unique scarf distinguished from the mass products, applying "tie-dye'' technique which is one of the traditional way of working. The tie-die technique gives very unique motive that can get from only tie. this technique also reminiscences the nostalgia of the handicraft era and it is very easy to satisfy the needs of the today consumers who want the industrial art in the today society and referred to sundry records regarding to the uses of the tie-dye technique from the past to the present. And I began to work after the browsing the theories about the concept of scarf, its development and scarf desing, for I was aiming to develop a practical scarf fit to the today trends. In the course of making this scarf, the tie die technique was mainly used and other techniques are partly used. Consequently I found out the endless potential of the traditional beauty of the tie die technique in today society. Secondly, I also realized that this kind of trial satisfies the needs of today consumers, therefore it has commercial value. Thirdly A scart is comparatively easy to make a expression so it read much research and study to develop. I did my work to answer the purpose of both utility and decoration in this work. I believe this research can create a work having both high esthetical value and commercial value a t the same time, I'd like to keep trying to make a searf like that. I also believe that textile craftwork, has the limitless possibility in its field, so it is the duty of today textile industrial artists to keep developing this possibility in this field.
