韓國 基督敎 美術에 관한 硏究

Abstract

One hundred years has passed since Christianity was introduced to Korea. Although Korean Christianity has rapidly developed up to now, we have hardly paid attention to Christian art, and so there are few investigations oil that subject. The reason is we have considered from the third century when he Christian church was founded that art make us worship the creatures rather than God who created them. Christian art is the pare art by which artists represent their experiences of the faith. This year, we enter upon the second century of Christianity in Korea. This is the time for us to endeavor to raise the level of Christian art based on the faith. The purpose of this study is to collect the scattered materials about Korean Christian art, classify them, examine how Christianity was introduced to Korea, when Christian art begun, and how it has developed, and systematically form the history of Christian art in Korea. But, the present underdeveloPed state of Korean Christian art and poor amount of material in that field made it impossible to make a through study. In this study, we consult a few dissertations and some books about the history of Christian church in Korea and Christian art and include the photographs of artistic works before Korean independence collected in Soong Jun University Museum and works of members of Korean Christian Art Association with their explanations. The contents of this study are as follows. The first is the origination of Christian art in the West. The seconded is the historical background at the time of introdaction of Christianity to Korea. The third is she beginning or Korean Christian art and its development. The fourth is the Christian paintings classified into two periods-before and after the Korean Independence. This is a general study that covers the whole field of Christian art in Korea. I hope this study would be helpful to those who have an interest to that field, and that it might be a stepping stone through which Christian art can flourish and take root in this country.;한국은 올해로서 기독교 선교 100주년을 맞이한다. 한국의 기독교는 그동안 선교적으로 세계의 그 어느 나라도 따를 수 없는 놀라운 성장과 발전을 이룩해 왔으며, 1984년을 기점으로 선교 2세기를 향해 전진하고 있다. 그러나 기독교 문화와 예술에 대한 그 관심은 미비했다고 볼 수 있다. 앞으로 기독교 문화와 예술에 관심을 가지고 우리의 신앙을 바탕으로 하는 문화와 예술을 수준높은 종교적 차원으로 이끌어 올려야 할 때라고 생각한다. 예술 가운데서도 특히 기독교 미술이란 기독교 정신을 주제로 하여 성서와 신앙을 바탕으로 작가 자신들의 신앙적인 체험을 표현하는 미술을 말한다. 지금까지 기독교 미술에 관해서는 관심과 참여가 적었을뿐 아니라 그에 관한 학술적인 연구도 적었다고 볼 수 있다. 이 연구는 한국 기독교 미술에 관한 흩어져 있는 자료를 모아 정리하여야 할 필요성을 느껴서 연구하게 되었고, 한국에 기독교가 어떻게 전래되었는가, 또 한국 기독교 미술은 언제 시작되었고, 어떻게 전개되었는가를 체계적으로 종합정리하여 한국 기독교 미술을 考察하는데 그 目的이 있다. 本 硏究의 方法으로는 소수의 논문과 한국 기독교 전래의 역사적 배경을 설명한 한국 기독교 교회사를 참고하고 숭전대학교 부설 박물관의 유물 사진, 절두산 성당 기념관 유물 사진과 天眞菴 천주교 발상지 자료를 참고하고, 기독교 미술의 관계 문헌과 이론적 근거를 둔 자료를 참고하였으며, 성화 작품 분석은 한국 기독교 미술인 협회 회원들 중에서 현재 활동하고 있는 9명의 화가를 임의 선정하여 화가들의 작품을 해설과 함께 사진을 첨부하였다. 고찰하고자 하는 구체적인 내용으로는, 첫째, 서양에서의 기독교 미술의 발생 둘째, 한국 기독교 전래에 따른 역사적인 배경과 한국 기독교 미술사 고찰 세째, 한극 기독교 미술의 시작과 상황 전개 네째, 성화 작품 분석 本 硏究의 結論을 要約하면 다음과 같다. 우리나라 기독교 미술은 경교가 도입된 후 경교 미술에서 시작되었고, 한국 기독교 미술사에 있어 그 시초를 경교 미술에 둔다. 우리나라에 성화가 유입된 최초는 1645딘 병자호란에 소현세자가 북경에서 귀국할 때 천주상 1폭을 가져온 때로 본다. 그 후 1786년 이 승훈이 성화 작품을 가져오고, 그 이후는 외국인들에 의해 그려졌거나 한국인 화가에 의해 그려져 서양기법으로 묘사되었다. 성화 작품 분석 결과 한국 기독교 미술인 협회 회원들의 공통된 의견은 한국 기독교 미술의 선교적인 模介體로서 그 역할을 다해주기를 원하고 있으며, 지금까지 우상숭배로 간주되어 발전하지 못한 그 이유를, 교계 지도자들의 인식이 부족한 때문이라고 지적하고 있다. 以上에서 본 바와 같이 기독교 미술은 기독교 정신을 주체로 하여 성서와 신앙을 바탕으로 美의 추구와 함께 화가 자신들의 신앙적 체험을 수준높은 차원으로 승화시켜야 한다고 본다.
