현대 섬유조형의 공간표현에 관한 연구

Abstract

The recent trend in the modern "fiber arts" has been diversified by the characteristics of plastic art. The modern fiber arts expanded the domain of its expression of the art as a liberated form deviated from its traditional form. The 20th century fiber art seeking the concept of "composite arts" rationally introduces a carefully selected medium of the art. It is benefited by the help of the easy accessibility to industry materials and of the perspective and sophisticated sensibility of the artists. Therefore, the artists willingness to pursue the utilization of the potentialities of available materials is the needs of the present times as well as the responsibility of the artists. In this paper, recognizing the limitation of the fiber, I have tried to do fiber modelling work. Especially solidity of the natural materials and durability of the industry materials were considered. The soft-and-warm fiber and plastic materials with its unique quality and elasticity made "spatial modelling work" possible. In order to express senses of depth and space from the work, I chose "Double Weaves". When arranged it by pieces, it was formed as a three-dimensional space deviated from horizontally expressive form through the assembling process. And, the fiber modelling work has two characteristics in creating beautified space. The first one is "relief" when hung on the wall, and the other one is "cubic form" when laid down in the space. However, some problems were raised due to the weight of the materials in cubic space and the difficulties in installation. Consequently, to overcome the obstacle mentioned above, I felt as though it is necessary not only to develope of new ways of expression, forms and techniques but also to study creative space expression method.;현대 섬유예술의 경향은 작가의 자율성이 중요하게 인식되면서 종래의 형식에서 벗어나 자유로운 형태 추구에 의해 섬유예술의 표현영역을 확대시켜 나아가고 있다. 이렇듯 종합예술을 추구하는 20세기의 섬유예술은 과학의 혜택으로 양산되는 재료와, 작가의 지적 통찰력을 동반한 개인적 감각과 더불어 다양한 매체를 합리적으로 정선·도입하고 있다. 따라서 모든 재료가 갖는 잠재력을 추구하는 일은 시대적 요구인 동시에 예술가의 소명이기도 하다. 본 논문에서는 섬유가 갖고 있는 한계성을 파악하여 견뢰도가 높은 천연재료와 내구성이 강한 재료의 특성을 최대한 살려 섬유조형 작업을 시도하려 하였다. 즉, 부드럽고 따스한 섬유와 독특한 재질감과 탄력성을 지니고 있는 플라스틱 재료와의 조화를 통해 공간 조형물의 제작을 가능케 하고자 하였다. 작품의 깊이감과 공간감을 주기 위해 2중직 기법을 선택하여 제작하였고, 각 Piece의 조립과정을 통해 평면에서 벗어난 입체 공간을 형성하였다 이 작품들은 벽에 걸 때는 부조가 되고 공간에 놓였을 때는 입체로 변화되어 미적 공간의 창출이 가능하도록 작업하였다.
