현대 사회속의 신점(神占)

Abstract

이 논문은 신을 불러 의뢰인의 현재의 불안을 설명, 진단하고 미래의 예측을 이루어내는 신점의 현대적 양상과 의례적 과정에 대한 것이다. 전통적인 체계의 해체와 새로운 체계의 유입, 그리고 그들의 공존은 현대 사회를 사는 개인에게 많은 선택과 갈등의 상황을 가져오며, 이러한 상황을 살아가는 현대인들은 위기와 불안의 상황에 마주하게 된다. 신점이라는 의례는 이러한 사회 안에서 일상적 관계를 떠난 의례의 공간을 마련해 줌으로써 의뢰인들에게 공식적인 영역에서 자유로이 말할 수 없는 그들의 불안에 대하여 이야기하게 하고, 그 안에서 문제 해결을 통한 심리적 안정을 가져다주며 다시 일상으로 복귀시키는 기능을 한다. 신점은 일상-비일상-일상의 의례적 구조를 가지며, 시점의 과정에서 이루어지는 상황은 그 경제적 특성을 잘 드러낸다. 일상 공간과 구분되는 의례적 공간, 상징적 의미를 가지고 의례를 진행하는데 필요한 소도구들이 되는 점상과 점구들, 점을 시작하는 무가와 언어적 표현의 특징들이 모여 의례를 구성한다. 그리고, 이 안에서 만신과 의뢰인은 역동적인 대화의 과정을 통하여 의뢰인이 처한 문제점을 구체화하며, 진단하고 해결해 간다. 이러한 의례공간을 통해 의뢰인들이 해결하고자 하는 갈등과 불안의 문제들은 현대적 상황을 반영하고 있는데, 이는 사업을 하거나 직업을 갖는 문제, 그리고 가족 관계내의 문제들에서 잘 드러난다. 소규모 자본으로 하는 사업의 위험도가 높고, 불황 속에서 직업을 택하기 어려우며, 전통적 가족체제와 서구적 가치들 사이에서 부자, 부부간 관계가 갈등을 일으키고 있는 것이 그 예이다. 만신은 이러한 불안 요소들을 사주와 조상을 큰 축으로 하는 무교적 해석체계에 근거하여 진단하고, 처방을 내린다. 만신의 점괘는 전통의 체제를 고수하는 듯 보이면서도 의뢰인의 입장에 따라 그 해석을 변환해 나가고 있다. 현대 사회에서의 신점은 이러한 불안요소들을 치유하고, 사회로 되돌려 보내는 기능을 한다. 치유를 통하여 의뢰인은 불안을 해소하고, 선택상황에서의 갈등을 줄여 다시 희망과 용기를 얻어 일상으로 돌아가는 것이다. 만신은 의뢰인의 이야기를 이끌어내고, 선택의 가능성을 제공하는 인도자로서의 기능을 하고 있으며, 의뢰인은 자신의 문제를 해결하고자 하는 기대감을 가지고 자신의 문제를 구체적으로 제시하고, 가능성들을 만신과 함께 타진하고, 결정하는 능동적인 모습을 보인다. 또한 의뢰인은 의례과정에서 통해 만신이 가진 신과 소통할 수 있는 능력을 인식하게 되고, 이에 대한 놀라움을 바탕으로 만신의 진단과 처방을 받아들인다. 만신이 가진 가치체계는 사주와 조상을 중심으로 설명되는데, 이는 상징성을 띠고 있으며 그 상징의 내용은 현대 사회의 상황에 맞게 재구성되어가고 있다. 이 글에서 살펴본 것처럼 신점은 현대에서도 자신의 체계를 유동적으로 넓혀가 현대인들에게 안정을 가져다주는 의례이다. 점이 과연 잘 맞느냐 하는 문제보다는 사람들이 점을 통해 무엇을, 어떠한 과정을 통해 얻는지의 문제가 더욱 중요한 것이다. 따라서 점으로 연구한다는 것은 현대인들의 삶은 어떤 문제 상황들을 내포하는지, 또 그들이 삶을 영위하는데 있어서 필요로 하는 것은 무엇인지를 밝히는 과정이 될 것이며, 그 안에서 현재 우리가 살고 있는 곳을 더 잘 이해할 수 있는 일이 될 것이다.;This paper is about the ritual process of the shamanistic divination that explains and diagnoses the clients' anxiety about uncertain future and unfortunate events in the modern Korean society. With the rapid social and economic development, traditional values are challenged by new thoughts, and there is no single solid value system. So a lot of people in modern society feel crisis and anxiety in their everyday life. The shamanistic divination as a ritual offers them a sense of security through its ritual process that is performed in liminal space with its symbols. The shamanistic divination has the frame that the ritual is performed within and the ritual process. That frame is separated from the daily life and consists of many symbols such as the isolated space, tools that are used to foretell, songs, and the manner of speech. In this frame, the shaman and the client perform their role and have a conversation with each other so actively to find the cause of the client's anxiety that is expressed in the word "taptaphada", to solve the problem, and to make the client return their daily life with the hope and the piece. Clients' situations in trouble reflect aspects of modem society. In the case that the client was running a small business such as stores, small enterprises, etc., they were very anxious about their business's future because of the high isk of that kind of businesses in Korea. And the client who wanted a job felt uneasy about their future for the business recession. Relations between family members are changed along the change of many social conditions, so there are a lot of clients who ask shaman about their family life. Clients are confused their role as a father and a mother, a woman and a man, and a husband and a wife. The shaman diagnoses these complex situations of modern society with their own explanation system. The system looks like so traditional, but it adapts the modern society by widening their explanation to various problems. The shamanistic divination has ritual effects to heal the clients' anxiety and to reintegrate them to their everyday life. The shaman symbolize clients' situations and explain that with her value system in the ritual process. In this process, clients have the possibility of returning their life successfully without their anxiety.
