Abstract
Since the beginning of mankind, nature has been an endless source of inspiration for art. Its beauty and as well as its basic form of life builds the fundamental grounds for artists to appraise and imitate. Human being's interest and desire about life is limitless. Humans incessantly iong and aspire for a more full life. This study concentrates on natural imageries. I have used used the vast pleature of earth to symbolize the curves of a female body and in order to express the strong survival qualities in nature. I have combined beatiful and strong plants imageries with the female figure. They show the strength of natural growth, resisting any outside distraction. All these imageries have been combined into the teapot form. For this study, I have reserched on the teapot form, the female figure and the ways in which life have been portrayed in art. I have examined the different ways in which each of these subject have been expressed in art. The concept of the teapot has been approached with concentration on the form rather than its function. The teapot form has been transformed form its original shape. Its transformation has been carefully observed. Also the history behind the teapot form and the effect of the teapot form in contemporary cermic art has been studied, and this together with my own aesthetics, has been expressed in clay. Using both the form and the surface. The forms, which I have made, are complex. Due to this fact I have used a white stoneware clay which is very plastic and easy for creating difficult forms. Also in order to express the smooth curves and linear forms found in the female body. I have applied the coiling technique. To show the stong survival will for life in the female figure, I have used the modeling method. The work was first fired to a temperature of 800℃ for 7 hours. Then the work was glazed. I have used a black glaze, a matt white glaze, cobait glaze and a glaze with iron oxide. Stains have also been mixed into the glazes to achieve various differant effects. The glaze firing took 12 hours and it was fired to a temperature of 1250℃. Works <6,9> have been fired 3 times. The third firing took 12 hours and reached a temperature of 1250℃. For this study I have altered the teapot formation to express a person's purpose and emotion in life. This will widen my creative world and will also encourage the developent of my future works. The forms which can be made from a teapot is limitless and I hope to researching on them.
