한국 수수께끼의 기능과 의미 연구

Abstract

본고는 설화를 통해 수수께끼의 구체적인 인식양상을 찾아내고 또한 수수께기에 반영되어 있는 한국인의 세계관을 조명함으로써 그 전통적인 의미와 기능을 파악하는 데 연구의 목적을 두었다. 여기에는 수수께끼가 한 민족의 정신과 생활상을 총체적으로 반영한다는 생각이 전제되어 있다. 논의의 과정은 다음과 같다. Ⅱ장에서는 설화에 포함되어 있는 수수께끼들을 기능과 함께 서사구조를 중심으로 시험형, 대결형, 풀이형으로 분류하여 수수께끼가 요구되는 개별적인 상황과 공통적인 개입의 의미를 파악하고자 하였다. 여기서는 수수깨끼의 일반적 기능이라고 인식되어 온 오락은 거의 나타나지 않으며 오히려 수수께끼는 갈등과 혼란의 원리에 의해 심각한 사회적 기능을 수행하고 있다. 또한 설화 전반에는 수수께끼를 현실적 한계를 극복하고 사회에 저항할 수 있는 합리적인 장치라는 인식이 반영되어 있다. Ⅲ장에서는 신화에서 시작되는 수수께끼담의 역사적인 전승을 고찰하였다. 그리하여 수수께끼가 죽음과 대응할 만큼 큰 고난일 수 있으며 그 해결로 인물의 운명에 결정적인 변화를 부여하는 극적인 요소로 작용한다는 일관된 의미를 발견 하였다. 그리고 설화 전반이 신화에서 구전설화로, 구전설화 내에서도 시험형에서 풀이형으로 나름대로 발전적 변화 속에 구조가 확대되어 가는 과정이 나타난다. Ⅳ장에서는 설화에서 계승된 인식태도를 토대로 하여 수수께끼에 내재하는 우리 민족의 특징적인 의식구조를 죽음, 인간, 현실이라는 구체적인 측면에서 밝혀 보고자 하였다. 이를 통해 죽음을 거부하고 삶에 충실하려 현실지향적인 가치관이 확인되었다. 이 논문은 연행현장이 거의 사라져 버린 채 단편적인 자료로만 남아있는 수수께끼의 현실적인 열세를 얼마만이라도 극복하는 데에 그 의의가 있다고 생각한다.;The purpose of this study are to find out the concrete cognitive aspects of riddles in narraives and to clarify Korean worldview reflexed in riddles and to understand the traditional functions and meanings of riddles in the last analysis. This study would be supported by the opinion, namely, riddles represent spirit and the ways of living of people. The processes of discussion are as follows. In chapter Ⅱ, that study clarifies riddles in narratives into the types of 'test' confrontation, explanation blased on its functions. These three types have very little function of amusement which has been treated as frequent and general functions of riddles. On the contrary these are performed serious social functions according to the principles of discord and confusion. And riddles are considered as a reasonable means to conquer actual limits and to defy the world in the whole narratives. In chapter Ⅲ, this study examines the historic transmission of narratives which have its beginning in myth. Therefore it finds out one consistent significance, that is, riddles could be distress equivalent to death and dramatic factors that endows charactors with important changes with its solutions. The whole narratives have some developing processes, for imstance, from myth to oral narratives and from the type of test to of explanation in oral narratives. In chapter Ⅳ, this study attempts to clarify some characteristic consciousness structure of Korean based on the some cognitive attitudes transmitted from narratives. Also this study makes some types in the sides of world as 'death, human and reality'in particular. Through this discussion it can be found the actural consciousness that shows the strong refusal th death and attachment to life. This study has its value to examine the original meaning of riddles and the types of our expectations to riddles.
