Abstract
The traditional time series models assume that conditional variance of the one-step-ahead prediction is time invariant. However, this assumption is not commonly satisfied. The ARCH (autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic) processes allow for the conditional variance to depend on the square of previous innovations. The ARCH models and its various extensions have been mainly investigated by econometricians. Recently applications of ARCH-type models to empirical work using time series data are gradually increasing, particulary, in the area of economics. In this thesis, we review some results on ARCH-type models and investigate the effects of misspecification in model identification for ARCH processes. That is, when a linear ARCH(p, q) process is estimated by an AR(p) model, the effects on the parameter estimation and the mean squared error (MSE) of the one-step-ahead predictior are studied in simple model by using a Monte-Carlo simulation method.;전통적인 시계열 모델에서는 시차 1에서의 예측치의 분산이 시점 t 와 무관하게 일정하다고 가정한다.
