핸드후킹(HandHooking)에 관한 연구

Abstract

Nowadays, its tendency toward the modern art of fiver has created the recognition of its various technics of expressions, and required its development. As one of its technics, the hooking is a method that is for protection against the chill air on the wall, or the floor surface and to make the rug or the covering of the bed, used in homes in the northern part of Europe, America and Canada. This method is as to make the Loop-Form, or the Cut-Pile form with some very same sized pieces of cloth, or silk thread which remained on the progresses of production of basic woven stuff made of cut which was weaved of the paralied texture, using a simple tool. The hooking method for the practical use has been pursuing its profound characteristic as its development. Consequently, the designs for the commercial patterns are introduced, and many people did the hooking, but as introduced the carpet and rug productions through mechanism in 20 centuries, the hooked rug lost almost its value and reputation. Accordingly, researching its variety of hooking technics and with its technic which is recognized mainly as only useful for the production of carpets or rugs, this thesis showed its possibility to be practical on tapestry for the wall-decorations. I.e., the developing progresses and its original motivation have been searched through some records, and each tool's specialties, or good & bad points have been compared thoroughly after collecting various tools for hooking. And introduced some foreign works on the hooking technics and also some of my own. As a result, came to conclusion that the hooking method is very appricable to the effectiveness of hooking textures which shows sensually cubic effect, and its method is comparingly very simple and also appricable to the decoration of inner wall of the modern architecture for its rapid working processes, decorativeness, warmth, sound-absorbency, economical basis and etc.. Consequently, do I hope that the modern Fiber Artists take more minding and practical using of the hooking technics as a technic in the wide Fiber-Art world, as recognizing it new ideal advantages.;오늘날 전통적인 타피스트리 기법에서 벗어난 현대 섬유예술의 동향에 따라 다양한 표현기법이 재인식 되어지고 또한 요구 되어지고 있다. 그러한 표현기법중의 하나로 "후킹"(Hooking)기법을 들 수 있는데 "후킹"기법은 오래전 북유럽과 북미, 캐나다등지의 가정에서 마루바닥이나 벽의 냉기를 막기 위한 "러그"(rug)및 침대카바를 만드는데 쓰였던 기법이다. 이것은 평직으로 짜여진 마나 면으로 된 바탕직물위에 실이나 일정한 간격으로 자른 천 조각을 간단한 도구를 사용하여 "루프"(loop)의 형태 또는 "컷 파일"(cut pile)의 형태로 만들어 가는 것이다. 실용적인 목적에서 시작된 "후킹"은 그 발전에 따라 독자적인 심미성과 독창성을 추구하게 되었다. 상업적인 패턴의 디자인이 소개되고 많은 사람들이 "후킹"을 하게 되었으나 20세기에 들어서 기계 제품화된 "카페트"와 "러그"의 등장으로 손으로 만든 "러그"는 그 가치를 잃게 되었다. 그러나 기계에 밀려난 수공예에 대한 새로운 인식으로 "후킹"도구의 개발과 아울러 디자인에 새로운 변화를 주게 되었다. 새로운 디자인의 출현은 단순한 기법을 예술적 차원의 수공예로서 가치를 부여하기에 이르러 Fiber Art의 한 분야로서 자리를 잡게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 이러한 "후킹"기법을 연구하여 우리나라에서는 주로 "카페트"나 "러그" 제작기법으로 인식되어 있는 "후킹"을 벽장식을 위한 타피스트리로서의 가능성을 제시하여 보았다. 이러한 연구를 위하여 본 연구에서는 "후킹"의 기원과 발달과정을 문헌을 통하여 고찰하였고, "후킹"을 위한 여러가지 도구를 수집, 검토하여 각 도구의 특성과 그 장단점을 비교하였다. 또한 "후킹"기법을 이용한 외국의 작품소개와 본 연구자의 작품을 제시하였다. 시각적인 입체감을 나타낼 수 있는 "후킹"의 질감(texture) 효과와 비교적 간단하고 빠른 작업공정은 장식성, 보온성, 흡음성, 경제성의 장점과 함께 현대건축의 내벽을 장식하는 타피스트리로서 적합하다고 생각한다. 그러므로 이러한 "후킹"기법이 광범위한 Fiber Art의 한 분야로 새롭게 재인식되어져야 할 것이며, 현대 섬유예술로서 관심과 적극적인 활용이 기대될 것으로 본다.
