과학관련 태도에서 나타나는 성별차의 원인분석

Abstract

우리나라에서 과학과 수학에서의 여학생들의 낮은 참여와 학업성취도에 대하여 관심은 보였으나 그 원인에 관한 구체적인 연구는 거의 수행되지 않았다. 여성노동 시장의 양적 증가에도 불구하고 여전해 과학관련 직종에 있어서 여성인력의 참여가 저조한 원인을 여학생의 과학과목에 대한 부정적 태도 및 낮은 과학성취도와 관련 시켜 설명할 수 있으며, 여학생이 대학에서 과학과 관련이 적은 한정된 전공을 선택함으로써 성별 직업분리를 심화시키고 있다고 본다. 본 논문을 과학관련 태도에 있어서 성별차의 원인을 과학교사의 성별차에 대한 인식이나 교수방법, 자녀의 성별에 따른 학부모의 편견 등과 관련지어 조사해 보고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적에 따른 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학에 대한 학생들의 인식 및 태도는 학생의 성별과 학년에 따라, 학생의 성별과 과학성적에 따라 차이가 있는가? 둘째, 과학에 대한 학부모의 인식과 태도는 자녀의 성별과 학년에 따라, 학부모의 성별과 학력에 따라 차이가 있는가? 세째, 과학에 대한 과학관련 과목 교사의 인식과 태도는 교사의 성별과 담당 학교급간, 학교형태에 따라 차이가 있는가? 이러한 연구문제를 분석하기 위해서 서울·인천 지역의 남녀고등학교 각각 2개교와 남자중학교 1개교, 여자중학교 2개교, 남녀공학 1개교 등 총 8개교의 학생 670명, 학부모 372명, 과학관련 교과 교사 120명을 대상으로 설문지 조사를 실시하였다. 연구문제의 구체적 분석을 위해 연구문제에 따라 이원변량분석, 일원변량분석, 사후검증으로 Tukey-HSD 검사와 상관관계 통계방법을 사용하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학에 대한 학생들의 인식 및 태도를 조사한 결과, 남한생이 여학생보다 중학생이 고등학생보다 과학과목에 대해 긍정적인 태도를 보였다. 둘째, 과학에 대한 학부모들의 인식 및 태도를 조사한 결과, 자녀의 성별에 따라, 학부모의 교육정도에 따라 성차 편견이 나타났다. 세째, 과학에 대한 교사들의 인식 및 태도는, 여교사가 남교사보다 성차를 고려한 과학교육에 대해 긍정적으로 답하였다. 본 논문의 연구결과에서 나타난 학생, 학부모, 과학관련 교사들의 성별차에 대한 편견은 과학에 관련된 태도에서 성별차가 나타나게 하는 중요한 원인으로 작용한다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 성별차를 지양하고 여학생들이 과학교과에 흥미를 가질 수 있고 성취를 발휘할 수 있게 하기 위해서는 학생들이 이해하기 쉬운, 남녀 학생들의 흥미를 충분히 고려한 새로운 과학교육이 필요하다.;The puepose of this study was to investigate the reasons for different attitude towards science according to gender of students. The research questions of the study were as follows : 1. Is there a difference in the way students learn science and the attitude towards it according to their gender and their grades? 2. Is there a difference in how the parents perceive science related issues and their attitudes towards it according to their children's gender and grade and also according to their own gender and their educational level? 3. Is there a difference in how the teacher perceive science related issues and their attitude towards it according to the standard and the system of the school? A survey methodology was used in the study. Three surveys were developed by the researchers : one for students, another for parents and the third for science teachers. The subjects consisted of 670 secondary school students, 372 parents, and 120 secondary science teachers. The major statistical analysis employed analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine differences in means for items for surveys. In addition Tukey SD test for post hoc comparisons were also used. The results indicated as follows : 1. According to the analyses of the students' survey, male students showed more positive attitude than female students, and middle school students showed more positive attitude than high school students. 2. Results from parents' data showed that parents have gender bias according to their children's gender and their own educational level. 3. According to teachers' data, female teachers more positively answered about science education concerning for gender differences than male teachers.
