점토를 이용한 성장 이미지의 mass 표현 연구

Abstract

급변하는 현대사회에서 살고있는 우리는 가장 친숙하고 본질적인 자연의 질서와 조화와의 섭리를 느끼지 못할 때가 있다. 반면 과학문명의 놀라운 발전으로 신비로운 생명근원에 대한 새로운 시각도 갖게 된다. 연구의 목적은 자연계의 모든 만물은 성장한다고 하는 당위적이고 위대한 사실에 겸허한 관심을 갖고, 생명체의 성장을 완만하고, 지속적이며, 자연적인 운동 속에서 서로 교통하는 형태를 특별히 유기적 형태로 조형화하는데 있다. 본 연구에서 본인이 유기적 형태의 조형작업을 한 동기는 장 아르프(Jean Arp)의 작품을 개인적으로 좋아하면서 관심을 갖은데 있다. 연구의 내용은 성장의 이미지를 조형화시키는 단계로 성장의 생명력에 대해 문헌을 통해 알아보고, 미술사에서 관련된 분야를 목적표출하여 바이오모르픽 아트(Biomorphic Art)와 그와 관련된 작품을 유기적 형태 중심으로 소개하며, 작품에서 MASS를 강조한 유기적 형태를 제작한 작가와 그들의 작품을 제시하여, 본인의 작품해석에 있어서 성장이라고 하는 동적인 생동감 표현에 참고하도록 하였다. 따라서 디자인 과정도 자연의 법칙속에서 생명과 운동의 유기적 성장이 느껴질 수 있는 형태제작을 위해 기본적인 형태에서 변화 즉, 사물이 생성, 성장하여 소멸하기전까지의 끊임없는 유동성의 한 순간을 정지시킨 것 같은 비정형적인 자유로운 형태가 되도록 제작하며, 생명력 표현에 있어 살아있는 움직임을 표현하기 위하여 때로는 자체공간을 가지고 구축물로써 응축되고 확산되는 것처럼 느껴지도록 하였다. 연구의 방법은 생명에 대한 일반적 이론을 고찰하고 성장에 대한 이해를 돕기 위한 근거 제시로 실제 성장하고 있는 생물체의 사진을 제시하고, 이런 성장하는 한 순간 순간의 유기적인 형태를 찾아볼 수 있는 작품들을 선정하여 제시하였다. 작품표현은 곡면으로 이루어지고, MASS가 강조된 유기적인 형태로, 성장하는 표면적 요소로 분열이나 결합, 또는 변형과 증식하는 생물학적 특성을 강조하기 위한 유동성과 단순성을 비틀림, 뚫린 공간, 量의 유동적 이동 그리고 곡선운동 등으로 표현하였다. 태토는 유기적 곡면 형태성형이 가능한 조합토를 사용하였으며, 성형방법 또한 모두 Coiling방법을 택하여 형태의 동적이며, 자유스러움을 표현하였다. 시유방법은 형태상 굴곡이 많은 점을 고려해 황색 무광택유, 보라유, 노란 무광택유, 갈색유, 흑유, 진한 밤색유를 분무시유하였다. 소성방법은 1.5㎥ 가스가마에서 마침온도 850℃로 1차 소성을 8시간하였고, 2차 소성은 1.5㎥ 가스가마에서 마침온도 1,250℃로 8시간동안 산화소성하였다. 본 연구에서는 MASS를 강조한 유기적 형태를 응용해 성장의 이미지를 조형화시켜 본 결과 성장이라는 동적인 생의 변화에 관심을 고정시켜 봄으로써 시감각에 무한한 상상력을 표출했고, 조형의 가능성에 기대를 해볼 수 있었다. 끝으로 본인 작품에서 생명성을 가진 추상적 의미의 성장을 조형화시키므로 생동감이 느껴질 수 있다면 앞으로의 작업에 좋은 밑거름이 될 수 있겠다.;We who are living in modern society sometimes do not sense the providence of natural order and harmony which are most intimate and essential to us. On the other hand by virtue of amazing progress of scientific civilization we may come to posses new perspective on mysterious source of life. The purpose of this study is to express growth of life which is steady and persistent and mutually communicates in natural movement in organic form based on humble observation of most normatic and great truth that all things in nature are growing. The study was motivated by this writer's personal preference and interest In works of jean Arp who engaged in formative works of growth image. For the purpose of this study available literature on lift force of growth as stages for turning growth image into forms was studied. from related field in the art history Biomorphic Art and its related works with the focus on organic forms were introduced. Artists who produced organic forms laying emphasis on mass and their works were introduced and used them as reference for expression of growth, that dynamic and vibrant sense, in the works by this writer Accordingly form was created to have atypical and liberal shapes as if a moment of endless flux throughout continuous process of birth, growth and death of a thing was arrested momentarily so that forms through which organic growth of life and motions within law of nature is felt can be produced. To express live motion it was represented as if they have their own space and can contract or expand as some structures. As method for this research general theory on life was studied and presented pictures of organism actual growing as evidence to assist understanding on growth and works chosen to show organic forms in different moments of growth were presented. Works are expressed in curvaceous surface and have organic forms laying emphasis on mass and are expressed in distortion, punched space, fluid movement of volume and curvaceous movement to stress biological features such as separation or combination or deformation and growth as growing superficial elements. As clay mixed clay possible for forming organic curvaceous surface was used. Used glazes include iron matt glaze, violet glaze, ash glaze, yellowish green glaze, black glaze and dark brown glaze were sprayed in considerations. The first firing was carried out by 1.5 ㎥ gas kiln at a peak temperature of 850 degree C for 8 hours and second firing was carried out by 1.5 ㎥ gas kiln at a peak temperature of 1,250 degree C for 8 hours by oxidation firing. In this study growth image was represented in forms by application of organic forms laying emphasis on mass. Through this work by grasping growth, dynamic change of life, endless imagination was brought to visual and physical senses and possibility of representing them in forms was explored. In closing this writer would imagine some contribution to future researches in this field being made if some vibrant sense can be felt from these works for representing growth of life in abstract sense in the form of art works.
