조선조 후기 풍속화에 나타난 골계미에 관한 연구

Abstract

조선조 후기는 우리나라 회화사에 있어서 가장 한국적인 화풍이 풍미하였던 시기로, 특히 18세기의 영조, 정조 시대는 정치·경제·사회가 안정되어 문학이나 회화 등 예술전반에 걸쳐 문예부흥기를 이루었다. 이 시기의 우리나라 화단은, 실학사상의 영향을 받아 중국화풍의 모방을 일삼던 당시 화단의 경향에서 탈피하여 현실을 직시하고 현실을 바탕으로삼은 한국적인 화풍이 풍미하게 되었다. 풍속화는 조선후기의 새로운 회화의 경향중에서도 서민의 생활이나 그들의 생업의 모습을 소재로 한 토속적이면서도 민족적인 작품의 세계를 형성했으며, 특히 풍속화 안에 담겨있는 해학미는 우리민족의 낙천적이고도 소박한 심성을 응축하여 표현한, 뛰어난 예술의 경지를 잘 보여주고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 풍속화의 해학미를 미학적 견지에서 골계미의 범주로 보아, 미학적 시각으로서의 해학미와 그 범주에 대해 알아보고, 당시의 사상적 배경이었던 실학이 풍속화에 미친 영향을 고찰하여 풍속화에 내포된 성격을 연구해 보고자 한다. 이에 민생을 주제로한 시정잡사와 서민생활의 풍속을 꾸밈없이 표현한 단원과 혜원의 풍속화를 중심으로, 작품속에 나타난 표현양식을 구체적으로 분석하여 풍속화가 조선후기 사회배경과 어떤 관련이 있으며, 우리민족의 특유한 해학적 성격을 작품속에 어떻게 표출 시켰는지 알아보고자 한다. 본론에서 다룰 주요 내용의 개요는 다음과 같다. 제 1편에서는 해학미의 미학적 원어인 골계미가 미학적으로 어떤 범주에 속하는지 알아보고, 또한 골계미의 정의와 그 안에 포함된 요소들을 중심으로 골계미의 유형과 특성들을 살펴본다. 즉, 풍자, 해학, 기지, 반어 등 골계미의 변용들이 가지고 있는 성격에 대하여 알아본다. 제 2편에서는 풍속화의 발생 배경으로서 풍속화가 등장한 조선후기 사회의 사상적 배경인 실학사상의 주요내용과 풍속화에 미친 영향을 살펴보고, 조선후기 새로운 회화의 조류와 함께 발생한 풍속화가 회화사상 어떤 의미가 있는지, 회화사적 배경을 살펴본다. 제 3편에서는 풍속화에 표출된 골계미를 생활풍속화, 여속화, 의속화로 나누어 각 방면에서 어떻게 나타냈는지를 김홍도 신윤복등의 대표작가와 작품을 통해 분석하여, 조선후기 풍속화에 나타난 한국적 정서인 해학미의 표현양식을 고찰해 보고자 한다.;The late period of Yi-dynasty was the times when Korean style of painting flourished at the highest level, especially in the 18th C. under the reign of King Yeong-jo and Jung jo all the political, economical and social conditions were stabilized that the age established an artistic and literary Renaissance. The Korean painting circles at this time received influence of practical science, which became popular, to cast off the existed pictorial tendencies imitated Chinese styles, and based on positivism and realism Korean styles began to bloom. Among new tendencies of painting, genre paintings depicted common people's life or engagement in making a living that formed nationalistic world of art, particularly humour and wit contained in them well reveal outstanding artistic path expressing and condensing our race's optimistic and subtle mentality. Considering this humour and wit in the genre paintings of late Yi-dynasty, this study is to define the concept of humour and its realism and examine some characteristics contained in genre paintings by investigating the influence of practical science on them s the ideological background at that time, Especially, this study is to analyze certain expressional modes in the works of Kim Hong-do and Sin Yun bok who frankly depicted general life conditions and customs of common people, and see what relation was between genre paintings and the social background of late Yi-dynasty and how painters presented our race's peculiar witty and humourous nature into their works. The content dealt in the main discourse of this study can be summarized as follows. In the first chapter, category to which humour, origin of the jest and wit in genre painting, belongs was examined, and the types and characteristics of humour were investigated mainly around its definition and all the elements incluended in it. That is, natures of sarcasm, irony and wit were looked at. In the second chapter, the author of this study examined the principal theme of practical science, the ideological background of late Yi-dynasty when genre paintings, began to appear, and its influences on genre paintings. And next meaning the genre painting of late Yi-dynasty has in the current of painting history was considered. In the third chapter, by analyzing the representative works of Kim Hong-do and Sin Yun-bok, especially in the genres depicted general, feminine of fashion customs, humour in every aspects and Korean expressional modes of painting were investigated.
