인간 고립 현상에 관한 시각적 표현

Abstract

본 논문은 현대인의 인간 고립 현상과 그것의 시각적 표현전개로 마스크와 유리관을 통한 작품 연구이다. 이 연구는 현대 인간의 고립문제들을 시각화함으로써, 스스로 보호막을 세우고 세상에서 고립되어가는 수많은 자아들에게 자각을 일으키게 하기 위한 것이다. 즉, 사진이라는 예술적 방법을 통해 현대인 스스로가 자신의 문제에 대하여 관심을 기울이고 나아가 그것을 극복할 수 있는 자세로까지 영향을 미칠 수 있는 계기를 만들기 위한 시도라고 할 수 있다. 과학기술의 발전은 공업화의 물결이 산업구조를 지배하면서부터 인간의 주체성과 정신적, 정서적 체험이 위협 당하게 되었다. 오늘날 현대사회의 특징은 인간관계가 상호 이익적인 목적에 의해 맺어짐으로써 과거 공동체적인 사회에 있어서 보다 훨씬 더 느슨한 관계가 된다는 점을 들 수 있다. 그리고 사회 구조가 세분화되고 복잡해짐에 따라 경험의 격차가 심해져서 과거에는 대수롭지 않았던 상호간의 이해와 커뮤니케이션의 문제가 매우 심각해지고 개인의 고립의 문제가 크게 부각되고 있는 점이다. 이러한 문제점의 제기와 발견이 본 연구의 작업으로 이어지게 되었다. 작품에는 마스크와 유리관이라는 공통된 대상이 등장한다. 먼저 작품을 이해하기 위해서는 작품에 대한 관객의 동일화를 이끌어 내는 것이 중요하였다. 작품에 등장하는 대상이 관객 스스로의 자아일 수 있다는 동일화를 이끌어 내기 위하여 작품 속에 자아로 상징될 매개체가 필요하였고 또한, 사회의 구성원으로 사회를 형성해 나가는 중심이었던 인간이 점차 그 사회로부터 고립되고 종속적인 존재로 변해 가게 된다는 의미로써 마스크와 유리관을 등장시키게 된 것이다. 본인은 전체적으로 작품의 이미지가 직접적이기 보다 간접적이고 서정적인 느낌의 사진을 원했다. 그러나 초기의 작업에서는 그 느낌이 제대로 나타나지 못한 것 같다. 작업 초반 본인은 중형카메라를 이용하여 구체적인 피사체를 배경으로 등장시킨 화면구성을 시도하였다. 이것은 작품해석 측면에서 간접적인 의미부여는 가능하였으나 전체적으로 서정적인 느낌이 살아나지 못했다. 그래서 작품의 배경을 자연환경이라고 하는 보다 간접적이고 서정적인 이미지로 통일시켰다. 자연환경이라는 화면구성은 일반적으로 흔히 볼 수 있는 대상이기 때문에 이미지가 평이하게 느껴질 수 있다. 그래서 본인은 앵글과 프레임에 변화를 주고 카메라의 위치와 자연광을 최대한으로 이용한 다양한 공간 활용과 의미부여를 시도하기로 하였다. 또한 마스크 중심의 촬영이었던 초반의 작업과 달리 촬영 중반부터 마스크를 점점 앵글에서 자유로워지게 함으로써 더욱 다양한 화면구성을 시도하였다. 특히 넓은 자연 속에서 작은 유리관과 마스크를 발견하는 것은 곧, 넓은 세상으로 나아 갈수록 오히려 스스로의 보호막을 형성하고 그 안으로 갇히게 되는 인간의 고립을 잘 나타내는 것이라고 생각한다. 본 논문의 목적과 주제를 이해하기 위해서 먼저 인간고립이라는 이론적 배경을 설명하였고 작품에 등장하는 마스크와 유리관에 대한 의미와 상징에 대하여 구체적인 이론을 서술하였다. 그리고 같은 맥락에 있는 작가들을 예로 들어 그들의 작품을 본인의 시각에서 비교 분석하여 본인의 작품의 이해를 돕고자 하였다. 또한 자아 고립에 대한 관객의 동일화를 이끌어내기 위하여 정밀한 작품 분석을 통해 이미지를 완성함으로써 앞으로의 작업에 대한 희망과 토대를 마련하고자 한다.;The said thesis is a study on works through masks and glass tubes based on the state of human isolation for people of today and the development of visual expression for such state. This study aims to make numerous egoists establishing a protective layer and becoming isolated from the world on their own arouse self-consciousness by visualizing the problems of today's human isolation. A special feature of today's modern society is forming human relations based on the goal of mutual interests, resulting in developing into much more relaxed relations than a communal society of the past. In addition, the trivial problems of mutual understanding and communication in the past are becoming very serious and the problems of personal isolation are highlighted greatly as the result of the gap in experience becoming worse based on segmentation and complexity of social structure. Raising and discovering such problems led to implementing work on this study. Masks and glass tubes appear in these works. In order to understand such works before anything else, inducing the identification of visitor toward such works was important. Media symbolized as egos in such works were necessary in order to induce the identification that the subjects appearing in such works could be visitors' own egos. Masks and glass tubes appeared as the meaning of a human being, which was the center of forming a society as its member, becoming isolated gradually from such society and transforming into a dependent being. The present writer wanted the image of works to be the picture with a more indirect and lyrical feeling in general rather than direct feeling. However, it seems that initial works did not show such feeling properly. The present writer attempted to compose the picture with detailed subjects as a background using a medium-size camera in the beginning of work. Even though giving the indirect meaning was possible from the aspect of interpreting works, a lyrical feeling could not be produced overall. Therefore, the background of works was standardized into the much more indirect and lyrical image with the natural environment. Since the composition of a picture with the natural environment is a subject that can generally be seen often, the image could be felt plainly. Therefore, the present writer attempted to use various spaces and give the meaning by making changes in the angle and frame, and using the position of a camera and natural light. In addition, the composition of various pictures was attempted much more by freeing the mask gradually from the angle since the middle of photographing unlike initial work of mask-oriented photographing. In order to understand the goal and the theme of the said thesis, a theoretical background of human isolation was explained first, and the meaning and symbolism of masks and glass tubes appearing in such works were described. Moreover, works of artists on the same context were compared and analyzed from the viewpoint of the present writer as an example. Furthermore, works of the present writer were analyzed in detail in order to induce the identification of observers toward self-isolation. The said thesis aimed to make people of today take an interest in their own problems and to provide an opportunity to influence even the attitude to overcome such problems.
