인간의 감성을 응용한 도자 조형 연구

Abstract

Men are the most emotional animal compared to all other living organisms on earth. Men express emotion through language, gestures, and facial expressions. Our basic emotions are happiness, love, sadness, rage, fear, anxiety, etc and our social and more delicate emotions would be admiration, jealousy, relief, hope, and gratitude. Every value of our lives arouses emotion. When we think about why, we find the answer that we try to meet various complicated procedures which our societies require from us from the time we are born until the time we die and many common social emotions reflect various physical and social problems which we must face in order to live in the society. Emotion works in relation to intelligence and it shows that very intellectual people are equally emotional. Emotion sometimes causes problems in our lives, but it is essential for our lives. In this respect, human emotion has evolved because it helps us live successful lives. Emotion is the outcome of personal meaning. Personal meaning changes according to what is important to us and what we believe in. We feel rage, anxiety, guilty, happiness, pride, and affection because of the meaning of events and condition of our lives. If we understand personal meaning beneath our emotions, we would be able to face the true meaning of our emotion and control it. By doing so, we would not let our emotion interfere with our relationships with others and would be able to manage our lives more maturely. Various human emotions provide various materials and meanings to arts these days. The purpose of this study was to relate various emotions, from happiness and sadness to rather esoteric emotions, to human body and to visualize them as porcelain creations. As for the theoretical background of emotional expression through human body, I analyzed why sculptors began considering human emotions for their artworks, described the images and meanings of emotions I used for my study, and examined various facial expressions and other human gestures. Then, I looked for various examples that used human body for artistic expressions and referenced their emotional and depictive characteristics and how such characteristics are visualized based on each artist's preference. In the design process, I reinterpreted various emotions and applied them to basic human figures and used plaster, such as dead masks, to create realistic frames of expressions using human bodies. For the creation process, I used composite clay that is easy to work with and adequately rough in texture. For molding, I made plaster frames by pouring plaster onto human body parts and used pressure molding and refining to create realistic pieces. For pieces <1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10>, I used a 0.3㎥ electronic kiln and set it to 850℃ for the first 8-hour firing. I coated each piece with different colors of matt glazes and set the temperature to 1,250℃ for 9-hours of firing in oxidizing flame. Piece <10> were also fired for 8 hours in a 0.3㎥ electronic kiln set to 850℃and coated with different colors of matt glazes to be fired for 8 hours firing in 1,250℃ oxidizing flame. Then, I covered the earthenware with terra sigillate and indigo terra sigillate for the third firing in 1,000℃ oxidizing flame for 9 hours. The ultimate purpose of this study was to show various emotions using various human figures. I particularly realized that human body is used by many artists as the means of absolute beauty. Various expressions of human body proved that there are infinite possibilities to use human body as the means of showing human emotions. I hope to see many advanced and creative studies that explore endless inspirations and sustainable creativity which human body delivers to us. I also hope that this study can be referenced for future studies that involve using human bodies to visualize various human emotions.;인간은 세상의 모든 생물 가운데 가장 감성적인 동물이다. 우리의 언어와 행동, 얼굴까지 감성으로 표현된다. 인간이 느끼는 기쁨, 사랑, 슬픔, 분노, 공포, 불안 등 기본적인 감성들 뿐만 아니라 선망, 질투, 안도감, 희망, 감사 등 사회적으로 조금 더 미묘한 감성들까지 표현한다. 우리가 중요하다고 생각되는 일들은 모두 감성을 일으키는 것이다. 왜 이렇게 되는 것인가를 생각해 보면 우리는 태어나서 죽을 때까지 신체적이고 사회적인 환경이 우리에게 요구하는 복잡한 절차들을 처리하려고 애쓰며 살아가는데 사람들이 경험하는 많은 감정들은 우리가 살아가기 위해서 씨름해야 하는 많은 신체적이고 사회적 문제들을 반영한다. 감성은 지성과 보조를 맞추어 움직이는데 이는 매우 지성적인 인간들이 또한 그렇게 감정적이라는 것을 보여준다. 인간이 살아가면서 감정 때문에 문제를 일으키는 경우가 많지만 그래도 감성은 세상을 살아가는데 있어 필수적인 도구이다. 이러한 것으로 미루어 볼 때 인간의 감성들이 이렇게 진화해 온 것은 그것이 삶을 성공적으로 헤쳐 나가는데 많은 도움을 주기 때문이다. 감성은 개인적 의미의 산물이다. 개인적 의미는 본인에게 중요한 것이 무엇인지, 우리가 우리 자신이나 세계에 대해서 무엇을 믿는지에 따라서 달라지는데 우리가 분노, 불안, 죄책감, 행복감, 긍지, 애정 등을 느끼는 것은 우리가 우리 삶의 사건과 조건들에 부여하는 의미 때문이다. 우리 자신의 감성 밑에 깔려 있는 개인적인 의미들을 이해한다면 내부에서 생기는 그 감성들을 좀 더 잘 받아들일 수 있을 것이고, 더 잘 통제할 수 있을 것이다. 그러면 그러한 감정들로 인해 아끼는 사람들과의 관계를 방해받는 일도 없을 것이고 우리는 삶을 보다 더 능숙하게 운영해 갈 수 있을 것이다. 인간이 가지고 있는 여러 가지 감성은 오늘날 예술에 있어 다양한 소재를 제공하고 많은 의미를 부여한다. 본 연구의 목적은 단순한 기쁘고 슬픈 감성에서부터 다소 심오한 감성들까지 인체와 결부시켜 도자 조형물로 시각화 시켜보고자 한다. 이러한 인체를 통한 감정표현의 이론적 배경에서는 우선 작가들이 인간의 감성을 주제로 다루게 된 원인을 분석해 보았고 본인의 작품의 소재가 된 감성들은 어떠한 이미지를 가지고 그 의미를 포함하는지를 서술해 보았으며 얼굴의 표정과 다른 인체의 다양한 표현 방법 등을 살펴보았다. 또한 인체를 소재로 한 작품사례를 통해 예술표현 대상으로서의 감성과 인체묘사의 특징을 작가의 주관에 따라 다양하게 조형화 되어지는 것을 작품제작에 참고하였다. 작품 디자인 과정에서는 인체의 기본형에서 연구자가 부여한 다양한 감정들을 재해석하여 구성해 보았으며 사실적인 인체 표현을 위해 dead mask 등 석고를 직접 인체에 부어 틀을 제작하는 방식을 택하였다. 작품 제작에 있어서는 태토로는 다루기가 용이하고 적당히 거친 느낌을 살릴 수 있는 조합토를 이용하였고 성형방법은 위에서도 언급했듯이 사실적 표현을 위하여 인체에 직접 석고를 부어 성형틀을 제작, 가압성형 한 뒤 다양한 형태와 표정들을 재구성하여 형을 다듬는 기법을 이용하였다. <작품1,2,3,4,5,6,7>은 0.3㎥ 전기가마에서 8시간동안 마침온도 850℃로 1차 소성한 후 각각 다른 색상의 무광택유를 시유하여 12시간동안 마침온도 1250℃에서 산화염 2차소성 하였다. <작품10>은 마찬가지로 0.3㎥ 전기가마에서 8시간동안 마침온도 850℃로 1차 소성한 후 각각 다른 색상의 무광택유를 시유한 뒤 12시간동안 마침온도 1250℃로 산화염 소성하였고 다시 테라시질라타를 덧발라 9시간동안 마침온도 1000℃에서 산화염 3차소성 하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 인간의 감정과 인체를 소재로 한 조형예술의 궁극적인 목적은 인간의 형상을 통하여 인간이 표현해 낼 수 있는 다양한 감성을 보여주는 것이며 예술에서의 인체는 절대미로서 많은 예술가들이 조형작품으로 표현한다는 것을 다시 한 번 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 다양한 인체의 표현을 통해 조형적인 소재로서의 감성의 무한한 가능성을 인식할 수 있었고 인체가 주는 끝없는 영감과 지속적인 창작의지로 더욱 발전적이고 창의성 있는 연구가 활발히 이루어질 수 있는 계기가 마련되었으면 한다. 이와 더불어 본 연구가 앞으로의 인체의 특징을 통해 다양한 감성을 표현해 내어 조형화하는 후속 연구에 도움이 되리라 기대해 본다.
