현대자수의 사실적 표현에 관한 연구

Abstract

'예술은 시대의 반영이다.'라는 말이 시사해주는 바처럼 현대미술은 현대의 사상적 조류와 현대라는 시대적 양상 즉, 산업혁명과 계몽주의에서 유래하는 과학기술의 발달과 대중사회를 기반으로 하는 현대사회의 다양한 흐름에 영향을 받고 있다. 현대 산업사회는 다층적 표현영역의 확대와 더불어 현대미술이라는 큰 장르 안에서의 상호 연관성이 요구되고 있으며, 이러한 맥락에서 볼 때 급변하는 현대미술 사조 속에서의 현대 섬유예술은 매체 개념의 확대와 그 가능성에 대한 실험으로 섬유표현에 새로운 재료와 기법을 사용하여 적극적이고 다양하게 그 표현범위를 넓혀가고 있다. 그러나 사실적인 표현에 있어서 전통자수는 기존의 바탕천에 염색기법으로 침염, 붓염, 판염, 홀치기염, 파라핀염 등의 방법을 사용하고 있었지만 바탕천과 실만을 이용하여 일정한 자수기법으로 형태를 메꾸므로 그 표현방법에 한계가 있어 사실적인 표현을 위해 다양한 재료의 사용과 효과적인 표현기법에 관한 연구의 필요성을 느꼈다. 본 연구는 사실적인 표현에 있어서 재료의 한계성과 기교적 표현방식에 의존해온 과거의 자수기법에서 탈피하여, 시각적 질감묘사, 상세한 형상묘사, 명암 표현, 원근감과 입체감 그리고 사실과 같은 실재감 표현, 중첩에 의한 오버랩 효과와 동일한 형상의 반복 효과를 특징으로 하는 실크스크린 기법을 염색 기법으로 도입하였다. 사진 이미지를 적용한 실크스크린 기법과 부재료 사용을 통하여 사실적인 표현을 강조하고 시각적이며, 촉각적인 질감과 사실적인 실재감을 표현하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이론적 배경으로는 국내외 문헌조사를 바탕으로하여 현대 미술사에서의 사실적 회화양식에 관하여 고찰하고 그 표현매체를 현대 자수작품에 적용 분석해 보고자 한다. 이러한 연구과정을 바탕으로 실제작품을 제작하였으며, 그 결과는 첫째, 사실적인 소재표현에 있어서 사진을 현실기록과 경험축척의 자료로 사용하였다. 그리고 사진을 드로잉의 일부로 사용한바, 화면구성에 있어 확대와 축소, 생략과 강조, 화면분할 및 재구성에 용이하였으며 형상묘사의 효과에 있어서는 사실적 표현을 강조할 수 있었다. 둘째, 사실적인 표현에 있어서 실크스크린 기법을 염색기법의 일부로 사용한바, 시각적 질감묘사, 상세한 형상묘사, 명암 표현, 원근감과 입체감 그리고 사진과 같은 사실적인 실재감 표현에 효과적이었다. 셋째, 재료의 선택에 있어서 우드락을 부재료로 사용하여 어촌 풍경에 나타난 배와 자갈 표현에 적용한 결과 양감에 의한 음양효과, 시각적이고 촉각적 질감효과, 부조적이고 사실과 같은 실재감을 형성하였다. 넷째, 주재료인 견사는 염색성이 좋고 촉감이 부드러우며 은은한 광택과 함께 가변성과 유연성의 특징을 지닌다. 이러한 견사의 사용은 작가의 의도에 의한 실의 굵기, 꼬임수, 꼬임의 형태에 다양한 변화를 줄 수 있었으며, 색채혼합에 있어서 인접색 조화에 의한 병치혼합이 이루어졌다. 다섯째, 실에 의한 자유롭고 거친 선적인 스티치의 사용으로 방향감과 양감 그리고 촉각적인 질감의 효과를 줄 수 있었으며, 형상의 윤곽을 뚜렷하게 하여 자수작품의 사실적인 표현에 실재감을 나타내는데 효과적이었다. 따라서 현대자수의 사실적 표현에 있어서 작가의 주관적 의도와 내적 심상의 표현을 자유롭게 하기 위해 다양한 재료의 사용과 그에 적합한 표현기법에 대한 연구는 작품제작의 중요한 요소이며, 이에 대한 연구와 노력이 중요한 과제로 인식된다.;As the words 'Art is the Reflection of the Age' suggesting, modern art has been affected by the trends of modern thought and modern age which shows the developement of science and techknowlege related to Revolution and Enlightmentism, and which has based on various streams of modern society. Modern industrial society is required the correlation within the large genre of modern art with the expansion of multiple expression area and according to this lean of aspect modern fiber art has been enlarging its expressional range variously and activly with the expansion of concept of medium material and the excercise of its possibility by using new materials and techniques in the rapid changed trend of Moderm Art. But actually, the classical embroidery has a certain limitation in its expression owing to just the action of fill in the basic texture with background texture and thread though it is adopted many techniques such as brush-dyed, grave-dyed, printing block-dyed, tie-dyed fabrics and paraffin-dyed. Because of this kind of inconvenience, I want to study the usage of various materials and techniques for effective expressions. In this study, I adopt the silk screen as a dying technique which is characterized by optical description of materials, fine description of image, contrast, perspectives, cubic effect, vividity of reality, overlap effect and repeating effect of same image to overcome the limitation of material usage and old embroidery technique which is depend on technical expression. The purpose of this study is to emphasize the actual expression by use of photography aided silk screen and side materials and to express materials sensitively and actually. As a theoritical background, I studied realistic pictorial mode in modern art with article survey for not only demestic but also foreign area and I intend to apply that media to modern embroidery works. According to the detail research, my actual activity was done and I can found several conclusions in this study. First, I used photography as a recording and experience accumulating material in realistic expression. As the photography was used as a part of drawings, it was easy to amplify and diminish, abberiviate and exphasize, depart and reconstruct of picture and as a result I could exphasize the reality in effect of description. Second, in realistic expression of subject, application of silk screen as a part of dying technique gave a effectiveness in expressions of optical materials, fine description, contrast and perspective effect and photo-like revival of reality. Third, in the choice of materials, a wood-rock could express a contrast from mass, relife and textile material, cubic and actual reality as a result of applying it to express the ship and gravel in a sea village. Fourth, Silk threads, main material, have character of distinct dyeing, soft, dim luster and flexibility. Using it as a main material allowed various variation in thickness, twisted way and twist form of thread which artist intended, and comingle of colors was made by combination of adjacent colors. Fifth, using free and tough line stich of thread made a direction, mass and sensitive material effect and it was effective to express the reality in embroidery works with active expression of outline shape. Therefore in the realistic expression of modern embroidery, the research for the use of various materials and proper expression techniques for making expression of artist's subjective intention and inner image free is important component for work product. Effort and research for this kind of study is very important subject.
