기하학형의 다원주의적 해석을 적용한 패브릭 디자인

Abstract

오늘날 사회와 문화 전반에서 목격되는 일반적 특성을 설명하는데 있어서 ‘다원주의(Pluralism)’ 라는 용어가 등장하게 되는데 이는 수직적 위계질서 보다는 수평적인 다양성을 중요시 하는 경향에 기인한다.우리는 삶의 모든 분야에서 이러한 다원적 현상을 경험하고 있으며 예술에서또한 예외일 수는 없다. ‘새로운 예술’은 기존 예술의 장르 간 통합과 분화에의해 생겨나는 새로운 형태의 예술 까지를 포괄하는 총체적개념이다. 즉, 지금까지의 가치와 기준이 새롭게 재편되고 그 속도도 매우 빠르게 진행 될 것임이 분명하다. 이러한 다양한 사회 문화적 맥락 속에서 현대 텍스타일 또한 시대의 흐름에 조응하고 창작의 변화시점을 읽어내며 의미 있는 비전을 제시 할수 있어야 함은 아주 절실하다. 신기술의 개발로 인해 현대 텍스타일 공예가 들은 다각도로 생각하고 작업하게 되었다. 연구를 통한 무한한 소재의 개발로 작업의 범위가 계속 증가 하면서 가능성의 범위를 넓혀가고 있는 전통소재와 새로운 소재 또는 소재들끼리의 색다른 조합 까지도 텍스타일 디자인의 일부가 되고 있다. 이러한 추세에 맞춰 본 연구자는 현대 예술과 현대 섬유 예술의 다원주의경향을 문헌을 통하여 고찰하고, 그 흐름 속에서 새로운 표현방법을 연구하고텍스추어의 표현을 강조하여 섬유의 잠재된 가능성을 확장 시키고자 한다. 또한 첨단 기술과 대체 될 수 없는 지극히 수공예적인 표현을 강조하여 새로운미적 기준을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위한 본 연구의 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다원주의의 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 현대 섬유예술에 나타난 다원주의적 경향을 문헌을 통하여 고찰한다. 둘째, 본 연구의 모티브인 기하학형의 동서양의 유래를 비교분석하여 기하학형의 다원주의적 해석을 통한 의미를 부여하여 본다. 셋째, 전통소재들의 특징을 바탕으로 전통의 현대화를 연구하여시대적 요구에 의한 디자인 시각을 가져 보려고 한다. 넷째, 표현기법으로는 알지네이트 호일(Alginate foil)을 이용한 스티치(stitch)에 의한 수공예적 텍스추어와 스티치에 의한 선의 비 정형화, 우연성에 의한 다양한 표현을 시도 한다. 이러한 연구 과정을 통하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기하학형의 다원주의적 해석에 대한 이론적 배경 연구는 ‘오늘'의관점에서 동서양의 문화의 특수성을 다원적으로 망할 수 있는 가능성을 가져 볼 수 있는 시각이라고 보이며 둘째, 실제 본 연구의 핵심인 작품 제작은 우리의 전통섬유인 삼 베위에 현대의 새로운 기술을 접목시킴으로써 전통소재에 대한 현대화를 유도할 수 있었다. 셋째, 알지네이트 호일과 같은 새로운 재료의 발견으로 서로 다 른 소재들의 조합을 용이하게 하여 섬유디자인 표현의 다양한 기법 개발의 계기가 되었다. 이를 통하여 새로운 소재 가공으로서의 가능성이 확대되어 본 연구자에게 섬유디자인 표현의 가능성을 열어 주었다. 넷째, 본 연구에 사용된 모티브인 기하학형은 인류의 정신성이 함축된 가장 단순한 형으로 시대의 변화에 관계없이 지속적으로 이용되고 있는 모티브로써 본 연구자의 작품 제작 의도에 부합하는 모티브임을 확인 할 수 있었다.;Nowadays, we can meet frequently a "pluralism,"whenever we review various artistic literatures. Pluralism could be interpreted as the particular argument that accentuates the diversity rather than the generality in the artistic values. In addition to the existing styles of art, the future trend of art is anticipated to include the new artistic values that reflect a variety of derivative values come from the concepts of pluralism.Based on that expectation, textile designers are also likely to accommodate those new artistic values as time goes by. This paper focuses on those new artistic values that textile designers are anticipated to face in the near future. In detail, this study investigates the concepts of pluralism by reviewing the modern literatures of textile art and tries to suggest a new way of textile art by concentrating on the expressions of handcrafted art. The contents of this paper can be summarized as following: 1) Reconstruct the meaning of pluralism by referring to the current literatures of textile design. 2) Establish the motif of this study by comparing the cultural geometrical patterns of the East with those of the West. 3) Build a new design concept of textile art by grounding on various colors and materials that are spot lighted in the 21st century. 4) Develop a new way of textile design by using the various techniques of textile art, such as machine stitch, dip dyeing,hand painting, and boring. The conclusions of this paper can be described as following : 1) Pluralistic interpretations on the cultural geometrical patterns of the East and West could open man possibilities to reinvestigate the current textile art. 2) Pluralistic views could have many possibilities to reflect the new artistic values textile art of the 21st century. 3) The adoption of new material, such as alginate foil could give useful artistic implications to textile designers. 4) The particular geometrical patterns that are used in this study can be depicted as a simple form, but could be a crucial motif to many future works of textile art. 5) The use of hemp cloth, Korean traditional textile, could give an opportunity to enhance a new way of technique for textile designers.
