루치오 폰타나(Lucio Fontana)의 작품을 응용한 의상 디자인 연구

Abstract

현대의 조형예술은 그 영역의 구분이 모호해지는 경향이 있으며, 각 영역간에 서로 영향을 주고받으면서 다양한 창작활동이 전개되고 있다. 의상디자인은 예술작품에서 끊임없이 영향을 받아왔고, 또 두 영역간의 접목이 시도되어 새로운 감각의 의상디자인이 창작되기에 이르렀다. 또한 예술 작품의 조형적 특성은 의상디자인에 응용되어 독창적이고 개성있는 의상디자인을 가능하게 한다. 20세기 이탈리아의 예술가 루치오 폰타나(Lucio Fontana)는 '공간주의'의 제창을 통하여 회화, 조각 등의 기존 질서를 부정하고 '공간개념'이라는 새로운 예술을 추구하였다. 그는 캔버스에 구멍을 뚫거나 찢는 등의 작업으로 회화와 조각의 형식을 파괴하고 보다 새롭고 총괄적인 예술의 경지를 이루기 위하여 노력하였고 그러한 그의 노력은 후에 현대미술과 의상에 깊은 영향을 끼쳤다. 이에 본 연구는 루치오 폰타나의 작품세계의 고찰을 통하여, 그의 대표적 연작 작품인 「공간개념」과 의상의 슬래쉬 기법을 접목시켜 의상에 부여되는 공간이라는 개념을 재인식하며, 이를 의상 작품의 모티브로 삼아 다양한 디자인을 창작하는 것이 그 목적이다. 연구방법으로써 루치오 폰타나(Lucio Fontana)의 예술세계를 분석하고 의상에서의 슬래쉬 기법을 고찰하였다. 먼저 공간주의를 연구하고 그의 작품세계를 문헌과 사진자료 등을 통해 알아보았고 그의 작품을 시대별, 작품경향 별로 나누어 분석하였다. 또한 그 작품들의 조형적 특성을 살펴보았다. 그는 공간주의의 연장선상에서 의상디자인 작업도 하였는데, 이를 통해 의복에서의 그의 공간개념에 대해서도 살펴보았다. 또한 공간주의 작품에서 보여지는 슬래쉬 기법의 개념과 역사, 표현방법에 대해 알아보았으며 그 미적 특성을 고찰하였다. 그리고 현대의상에 응용된 슬래쉬의 예도 문헌과 사진자료, 인터넷을 통해 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 항상 새로운 세계에 도전하였던 루치오 폰타나의 정신세계를 이어받아 폰타나의 작품 중 1959년 이후에 「공간개념(Concetto spaziale)」이라고 명명된 작품들을 의상디자인의 모티브로 적용, 응용한 뒤 슬래쉬 기법을 사용하여 총 8벌의 실물 작품을 제작하였다. 이를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 캔버스를 칼로 찢음, 즉 슬래쉬를 통해 공간을 지각, 표현하려는 폰타나의 예술적 작품들의 조형적 특성은 의상디자인에 다양하게 응용될 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 폰타나 작품에서 보여지는 단색의 선명하고 강렬한 색채들은 의상디자인에 적용되었을 때 슬래쉬 안쪽의 색채와 뚜렷하게 대비됨으로써 슬래쉬의 효과를 극대화시키는데 효과적이었다. 세째, 슬래쉬 기법은 의복의 공간감을 주는데 적합하였다. 2차원적 평면에 슬래쉬를 함으로써 생기는 공간감 즉, 슬래쉬 된 부분으로 안감이나 신체의 일부분이 보이고, 그 사이의 공간이 형성됨으로써 얻어지는 공간감은 의복의 조형적 효과를 확대시키고, 의복에서 자칫 간과하기 쉬운 공간을 재인식하게 하였다. 넷째, 슬래쉬 기법은 의복의 장식적 효과를 확대시키는데 적합하였다. 단순해 질 수 있는 의복에 부조적 효과를 줌으로써 의상디자인의 중요한 표현기법이 되었다. 의상디자인을 비롯한 예술작품들은 끊임없는 새로움에 도전한다. 루치오 폰타나는 이러한 정신을 대표하는 작가이며, 또한 슬래쉬는 이러한 새로운 도전과 의식의 표현에 있어 매우 중요한 수단이라 할 수 있다. 또 그 장식성은 개성있는 의복을 만들어내는데 매우 효과적이다. 앞으로도 이러한 예술작품과 의상디자인 기법의 접목을 통한 연구들을 계속하여 의상에 도입함으로써 끊임없는 디자인의 영감의 원천으로 삼고 실용화를 위해 노력한다면 창의적인 의상디자인 발전은 계속 될 것이라 생각된다.;Lucio Fontana, an Italian artist in the 20th century, denied the tradition of picture and pursued new art by advocating 'spatialism'. He attempted to destroy the conventional mode of picture and sculpture by slash - tearing a canvas with a knife - for attaining the newer and more global stage of art, and such his effort greatly influenced the modern art and fashion design of next generation. As methodology, the researcher examined the Lucio Fontana's world of art and the slash technique in clothing. For this, first, the researcher studied spatialism and his artistic world with literature and photos and analyzed his works by times and trends. He regarded fashion design as an extension of spatialism and based on such his thought, the researcher examined his spatial concept in clothing. And, the researcher examined the concept, history, how to express and aesthetic aspect of slash and investigated the examples of slash applied to modern clothes through literature, photos and Internet. Based on the above methodology, the researcher made total 8 suits of clothes. Findings of this study are as follows: First, it was found that formative features of the Fontana's artistic works, which intended to perceive and express space through tearing canvas with knife i.e., slash, can be applied to fashion design variously. Second, monochromatic, clear, and dazzling colors in the Fontana's works maximized an effect of slash effectively as it contrasted distinctly with the inside color of slash if it was applied to fashion design. Third, slash was suitable for giving a spatial and three- dimensional effect to clothes. The spatial effect produced by slash onto a two-dimensional plane - part of the lining or the body is seen through the slash - and the three-dimensional effect produced by the formed space expanded the formative effect of clothes and made space recognized anew, which is apt to be overlooked in clothing. Fourth, slash was suitable to maximize a decorative effect on clothing. It is important expression technique of fashion design by supplying an embossing effect for clothes that are apt to be simple. Artistic works including fashion design continuously. Lucio Fotana is the very artist spirit, and slash has very significant meaning challenge newness representing such in expressing such new challenge and sense. In addition, the decorative effect is very effective in making a beautiful dress. It is thought that continuous efforts to make more beautiful clothes by ceaselessly studying such connection of an artistic work and a technique of fashion design, making it as a source of design and putting it to practical use will lead to development of fashion design.
