에코 페미니즘(Eco Feminism)에 의한 생명 이미지 표현 연구

Abstract

20세기를 물질적, 기계적, 남성적 사회구조를 가진 시대라고 한다면 21세기는 감성적이고 정신적이며, 환경에 적응하는 여성적인 특성과 함께 최첨단 과학기술이 시대, 정보화시대라고 할 수 있다. 이런 종합적이고 진보적인 발달과 확대 속에 사회구조, 생활양식, 자연환경까지 변화하고 있다. 현대사회는 기능이나 성능만을 중시하며 획일화 된 디자인을 만들고, 팔리던 것은 자취를 감추고, 소비자 개개인의 욕구를 채워 줄 독창성이 살아있는 디자인의 개발과 새로운 소재개발 및 가공으로 단지, 고급스러운 것만을 추구하는 것이 아닌 자신의 내면적 감성과 정신적인 것까지 고려하여 가치 있는 이미지와 개성을 표출하려는 경향이 짙어지고 있다. 이렇게 다양화 되고 있는 시대에 본 연구자는 21세기의 특성을 모두 가지고 있는 에코 페미니즘(Eco Feminism)을 디자인으로 형상화 하고자 한다. 에코 페미니즘은 남성 중심사회의 가치와 삶의 방식을 타도 대상으로 보는 것이 아니라, 남성과 여성, 자연과 인간이 원래 하나라고 규정하고 어울림과 균형을 통해 생명 가치의 소중함과 함께 자연생태계를 존중하며, 평등의 가치를 실현하고자 하는 사상이다. 에코 페미니즘의 이론 중 삶의 기본 욕구인 생명의 생성과 탄생 그리고 여성과 태아를 테마로 생명체가 하나라는 것을 디자인의 모티브로 삼았다. 이런 연결고리를 표현하기 위해 기존의 섬유용해 가공법을 응용하여 소재의 개발 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구자는 에코 페미니즘적 경향인 해체적이거나, 장식적이지 않은 순수의 추구를 위해 천은 원단 그대로를 사용하였고, 모태를 동경하는 감성과 자연의 본래 모습인 아름다움에 대한 본질적인 면을 디자인에 부각시키고자 의도하였다. 이러한 본 연구자의 작품제작을 위한 연구내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 에코 페미니즘의 개념 및 배경을 고찰하고, 본 연구의 작품 디자인에 모티브가 되는 에코 페미니즘의 상징적인 표현 이미지의 특징을 알아본다. 둘째, 자연생태적인 것과 여성적인 것이 서로 이어져 있다는 것의 표현을 위해 섬유용해가공법을 살펴보고, 용해제의 성질과 섬유에 대한 용해도를 알아본다. 셋째, 본 연구자의 작품제작에 쓰이는 소재의 종류와 그 소재의 성질을 분석한다. 넷째, 합성섬유(폴리에스테르)와 천연섬유(실크)의 특성과 성질을 알아보고, 섬유용해가공의 이해를 바탕으로 본 연구자의 작품제작에 응용할 가공법을 도출해 낸다. 이러한 연구과정을 통하여 21세기의 특성과 에코 페미니즘의 상징적인 표현 이미지와의 접목으로 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 작품디자인에 있어 에코 페미니즘의 모태를 동경하는 감성과 생명체와의 연결고리를 표현하기위한 소재로 실크와 폴리에스테르라는 합섬섬유가 작품제작에 적절한 소재임을 확인하였다. 둘째, 섬유용해의 방법중 황산과 수산화나트륨에 의한 실험의 결과 황산에 의한 용해는 본 연구자의 작품디자인에 있어서 인날시 경사나 위사가 타서 얼룩이지는 경우가 생겨 깨끗하게 보이지 않고, 천에 인날시에 붓에 묻은 효료의 양에 따라 번-아웃 시간이 다르므로 일정량의 효료를 골고루 표면에 발라주어야하는 문제점이 있었고, 수산화나트륨의 경우 천에 발라줄 때 그 양에 따른 변화는 동일하게 나타나고, 물에 수세가 바로 되므로 깨끗하게 경사나 위사가 보였다. 위 실험에서 알 수 있듯이 작품제작에 있어 본 연구자의 디자인에 적합한 섬유용해방법으로 수산화나트륨을 택했다. 셋째, 작품제작에 이용된 합성섬유인 실크와 폴리에스테르는 알칼리와 인달카의 비율에 따라 각기 다른 용해도를 보였고, 모체 안에서의 생명체 표현을 자연스럽게 하기위해 샘플제작과 실험의 결과 호료중 작품제작에 가장 잘 맞는 용해도와 점성을 가진 인달카를 택했다. 넷째, 작품제작에 이용된 합섬섬유와 알칼리와 인달카의 섬유용해 실험결과로 인공적이지 않고 기계적이지 않은 자연적이고 여성적인 본질적인 미를 표현할 수 있었다. 21세기는 무엇이든 넘쳐 나고 오용되고 있는 현상들이 우리 주위에 다양한 형태로 나타나고 있다. 이런 점에서 본 연구자는 에코 페미니즘의 상징적 이미지인 여성과 생명체와의 관계, 인간의 자연회귀적 본능과 정신적인 감성을 패브릭 디자인에 접목시킴으로써, 자신의 이미지와 개성을 표출하려는 경향이 짙어지고, 고급화와 내면의 감성을 중요시하는 소비자의 욕구를 조금이나마 충족시키고자 하였다. 섬유용해가공에 대한 이해는 작품제작에 있어서 소재선택과 함께 표현의 폭을 넓히는데 유용하였다.;In contrast to the fact that the 20th century was a masculine society which can be described as materialistic or mechanical, the 21st century can be characterized by such feminine characteristics as sensitive, spiritual, environment-adapting. The 21st century can be also called an age of up-to- date science and technology and informatization. The modern society has achieved such comprehensive and progressive developments and accordingly the societal structure, life style, and natural environment have also been changed. This study aimed to present the eco feminism as a design method equipped with all characteristics of the diversified 21st century The eco feminism is a thought wherewith the life is valued, the natural ecosystem is respected, and the equality is to be realized via living together and equilibrium. The author used a roll stock of cloths in order to pursue the purity that is not characterized by dissolvent or decorative, for that is a trend in the eco feminism. The author also intended to reflect on the design the sensitivity aspiring after the mothers' womb and the beauty that is the essence of the nature. To produce a work reflecting such intentions, the author employed the following techniques: Firstly, the concept and background of eco feminism were considered, and the characteristics of symbolic expressive images of eco feminism, which are motives of the work design of this research, were reviewed. Secondly, the fiber solution processing was searched and the solubility of solvents for the nature and fiber was reviewed to understand the fact that the natural and ecological things are connected with femininity. Thirdly, the kinds of materials used to produce the author's works and the nature of such materials were analyzed. Fourthly, the characteristics and nature of synthetic fiber (polyester) and natural fiber (silk) were grasped, and a new processing method that can be applied to the production of the author's works was derived from the understanding of fiber solution and processing. When the characteristics of the 21st century were grafted on the symbolic expressive images of eco feminism via the above-mentioned techniques, the following findings were achieved. Firstly, it is confirmed that composite materials such as silk and polyester are appropriate for the design and production of the author's works, since the materials express the connection ring between the eco feminism's sensitivity aspiring after the mothers' womb and the living things. Secondly, indalka has the solubility and viscosity most suitable to production of the author's works, while each of composite materials including silk and polyester has different solubility depending on the ratio of alkali and indalka used. Thirdly, the beauty that is natural, feminine, essential, and not artificial or mechanical, can be expressed in the fiber solution experiments using the said composite materials, alkali and indalka. In the 21st century, everything is affluent and misused in diverse forms in our surroundings. In this kind of society, the author endeavored to satisfy, at least to a certain degree, the desires of consumers who make much of high class and internal sensitivity.
