의상의 에로티시즘 표현에 대한 연구

Abstract

의복의 착용이나 창작동기가 단순히 기능적인 면이 아니라는 지적은 현대에 이르러 인류학자들에 의해 개념이 바뀌었다. 오직 자연현상의 변화에 따른 생명유지를 위해 옷을 걸친 원시시대를 지나면 인간은 의복을 통해 개성을 표현하였고 이는 끊임없는 패션(fashion)의 원동력이 되었다. 인간은 자기표현으로서 이성의 눈을 끌기 위해서 보다 매력적인 방법을 동원하였다. 즉, 성적 매력을 강조하기 위해 신체부위를 노출시키거나 장식함으로서 에로티시즘을 표현하였다. 존 후뤼겔(John Flu¨gel)은 여성의 어떤 부위도 에로틱한 요소가 될 수 있다고 주장하면서 의복을 입는 목적이 이성을 유혹하는 데 있다고 강조했다. 고대로 부터 현대에 이르기까지의 에로티시즘 표현은 직접적인 누드보다는 부분적 노출과 같은 간접 표현으로 은근히 암시적인 방법이 효과적이었다. 이러한 신체의 부분노출은 현대의 조형적 측면을 추구하는 의복의 흐름에 따라 새로운 현상으로 발전하였다. 본 연구자는 인간의 본능 중 성적 본능이 한 차례 승화되어 의복의 에로티시즘으로 표현됨과 동시에 의복의 조형적 표현을 목적으로 하는 슬래쉬(Slash)를 결합시켜 새로운 조형적 의복의 에로티시즘 표현을 추구하였다. 이러한 목적에 따른 작품제작을 위해 고대에서 현대에 이르는 의복의 역사를 문헌을 통해 고찰해 보았으며, 에로티시즘을 표현할 수 있는 새로운 양상인 슬래쉬의 조형적 의미와 표현 방법을 문헌과 자료를 중심으로 연구하였다. 실물제작 작품은 에로틱한 인간의 신체를 강조하기 위해 슬래쉬의 여러방법으로 시도하였다. 슬래쉬의 응용디자인이 의복을 통한 에로티시즘 표현에 나타난 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째; 본인의 창조적 의지에 따라 슬래쉬의 조형적 요소를 통해 다양한 각도에서 에로티시즘이 표현되었다. 둘째; 의복자체가 아니라 인체에 도입된 슬래쉬의 선과 면의 표현은 다른 조형요소나 트리밍에서 느끼지 못한 에로티시즘 효과를 볼 수 있었다. 세째; 보다 자극적인 노출에 반하여 슬래쉬에 의한 간접적 노출이 에로티시즘을 아름답게 표현하는 데 도움을 주었다. 네째; 의복을 조형예술의 한 분야로 만족시킴과 동시에 의복의 대중성을 내포한 인체 중심의 의복제작에도 일부를 담당하였다. 이러한 결과로 슬래쉬를 응용한 의상은 본 연구자가 의도한 바와 같이 에로티시즘을 아름답게 표현해 주었다. 또한 의복이 조형예술의 한 분야임과 동시에 인간과 밀접한 산업의 일부분으로 이 양면성을 조화시킨 좋은 디자인 연구와 개발의 중요성을 강조해 주었다.;The fact that dressing and design of clothes do not simply depend on the fuction of clothing is already being noted by many contemporary, anthropologists. As opposed to the prehistoric men whose only reason for dressing was to survive in nature, men have subsequently used clothes to express themselves and consequently produced a driving force for today's fashion. To catch the eye of the opposite sex, one tried to device the best attraction method by the manner of one's dressing. That is to say that one exposed or decorated a part of one's body in an erotic fashion to accentuate one's sex appeal. John Flugel proposed that all the parts of a female body can be elements of eroticism and insisted that thus the fundamental reason for dressing lies in attracting one's opposite sex. From the antiquity till the present, partial exposure of the body has been more effective in arousing eroticism than complete nudity. This partial nudity has been developed into a new phenomenon approaching the plastic arts. To expess human sexual instinct by clothing, I have chosen the 'slash' as a new study of erotic expression. I have studied several works on the history of clothing and have performed major research on the 'slash', in short I have tried many models of 'slash' to emphasize the erotic qualities of the human body. The following are some of the points that I obtained from my study of the 'slash' as an expression of human eroticism; First, the 'slash' can express eroticism from several angles. Second, eroticism by the slash has a completely new effect, different from that of the plastic arts of 'trimming'. Third, the 'slash' with its indirect exposure of the body can express eroticism in all its beauty much better than any stimulation by direct exposure. That is why slashed clothing could satisfy the requirements of the art of fashion as well as that of plastic arts. In conclusion, the contemporary designers may well persue their studies by using plastic arts in order to beautify the human inner self.
