한국 여성성가대의 실태조사 연구

Abstract

기독교가 우리나라에 전래된지 100년을 지나 2세기의 장이 열린 이 시점에서 볼 때 교회는 많은 부흥발전을 가져 왔고 교회음악 또한 질적 양적으로 큰 발전을 보이고 있다. 성가대의 합창소리는 교회 밖으로 넘쳐 나와 일반합창경연대회에도 신청곡의 과반수가 예배용 성가곡임을 봐도 성가곡의 수준향상과 발전된 성가대의 역활이 지대함을 알 수 있다. 한편 여성성가대는 1970년대를 기점으로 해서 본격적인 활기를 띄기 시작하여 현재에는 교인수 300명 이상의 교회에서는 대부분 여성성가대가 조직되어 활동하고 있는 실정이며 그 수효는 날로 증가추세에 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 여성성가대의 발전적 측면의 활동과 음악의 질적향상을 위한 효과적인 방법을 고찰하여 필요한 결론을 얻고자 하는데 그 의의가 있다. 먼저 문헌을 통하여 연구하였고 다음은 악보를 통하여 일반성가곡집 52권에 수록된 2143곡 그 중 여성성가곡 545곡과 절기용 칸타타(Cantata) 및 오라토리오(Oratorio) 92곡을 중심으로 조사하였으며 끝으로 시내 13개 교회 성가대 지휘자를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 규명한바 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 선곡상의 문제 여성성가대의 훌륭한 음악활동을 위하여는 무엇보다도 좋은 곡의 선택이 중요하다. 그러나 여성성가곡수는 많은 것 같으나 조사대상곡의 약 57 %가 2회이상 중복수록되어 있었다. 단회만 수록된 곡은 너무 쉽고 반주부가 없는 곡들로 43 %를 차지하고 있으며 대부분 혼성곡을 편곡한 것으로 여성성가대의 특별찬양용으로 적합한 곡이 적다. 따라서 여성성가곡의 작곡이 시급하다. 2. 작곡 편곡 및 번역곡의 문제 선곡상 부족현상이 나타났으므로 여성성가곡의 작곡이 시급하고 국내창작곡은 그 수효는 적으나 호응도가 높은 것으로 보아 국내창작곡이 요청되며 절기용성가 가운데 추수감사절용 성가곡의 작곡이 필요하다. 편곡에 있어서는 인기위주의 혼성곡을 지양하고 여성성가용으로 적합한 곡의 편곡이 바람직하다. 번역곡에 있어서는 외국곡 가운데 여성(女聲)을 위한 성가곡의 번역이 요구되며 번역된 곡의 가사와 곡명의 통일성이 요망된다. 3. 지휘자 반주자 성가대원의 문제 여성성가대의 지휘자는 선곡상의 문제, 빈번한 연주활동, 관련자들의 무관심등의 어려운 여건하에 있으므로 일반지휘자가 갖추어야 할 자질이외에 강한 인내와 희생 봉사정신이 수반되어야 한다. 반주자는 독주자가 아니고 합창을 돕기 위하여 지휘자의 지시에만 따라야 하며 성가대원의 자질은 우리나라 교회의 발전적 측면으로 볼 때 날로 향상될 것이 예상된다. 4. 연습문제 연습시간은 주 1회 두시간정도 연습하는 것으로 보이는데 여성 (女聲)만으로 혼성합창을 능가하기 위하여는 보다 많은 연습과 정성과 노력이 요구된다. 5. 편집 복사 악보관리 문제 이들 문제가 음악에 미치는 영향에 관하여는 편집시 여성성가곡집의 초라한 장정이 여성성가대를 비하시키고 성의 없는 목차 작성법과 편집상태는 성가대원 모두에게 어려움을 주고 악보관리의 부주의는 복사해서 사용하는데 어려움을 초래하여 성가대활동에 시간적 정신적 경제적 손실을 준다. 6. 앞으로의 작곡방향 여성성가대의 활동을 위하여 평상시에는 은혜롭고 쉽게 부를 수 있는 반주부가 첨부된 곡을 원하며 특별예배 대행사 절기등을 위하여는 크고 웅장하고 배우기 어려울지라도 장엄한 곡을 요청하고 국내 창작곡과 여성작곡가의 활발한 작곡활동이 열망된다. 이상과 같은 본 연구가 우리 나라 여성성가대의 발전에 다소나마 도움이 되었으면 하는 바램으로 이 논문을 작성하였다.;Realizing that Christianity was introduced into Korea merely a century ago, we thank God for is noticeable progress. An impressive part of this movement is, of course, church music. Anyone can find the Kingdom of Heaven on earth at any place in Korea these days, even in out-of-the-way places. The over-whelming increase in the performance of sacred works at every choral contest has proved its importance. Without a doubt, the credit goes to choir members. Since women's choirs began to take part in this church music movement, especially from the 1970s, most churches with a membership exceeding 300 members have organized such choirs. This progressive development in numbers will no doubt continue, This paper seeks to examine closely the effect of these women's choirs to discover their future prospects, and what is Choirs Education necessary for their musical improvement. In order to achieve this, 2.143 compositions in 52 volumes of anthems, including those for women's choirs, and 92 cantates and oratorios were examined, the results of questionnaires to 13 choir choir conductors were tabulated, and books on related matters were studied. The results of these studies are as follows. 1. Selecting good choral works Selecting good compositions is critical for a woman's choir, 57% of those surveyed are anthems duplicated in various books, while those which are original works are far too simple. 43% of the anthems appearing in only one volume are not suitable as anthems as they have no accompaniment The all of them look good only because they are arranged from works for mixed voices. However, as they have usually been performed by mixed choirs in the same chuch, or are regularly heard elsewhere, even if they are good or popular anthems, they are far less effective when sung by women's women's choirs. Conductors of such choirs have difficulty in selecting appropriate anthems, which has led to an urgent demand for new compositions. Realizing that anthems by Korean composers are rather few, compositions which parallel Korean customs and spirit are needed. Especially, such annual events as Thanksgiving require anthems which are an urgent need. 2. Composing, Arranging, and Translating We need Korean composers to do their creative work in com-posing anthems for women's choirs . However, on the other hand, it would be wiser to arrange the music of less known but valuable foreign works than to insist on arranging popular mixed-chorus anthems by Korean composers. Any anthem is meant for praise, not to entertain as a kind of popular song. When choosing anthems for women's voices by foreign composers, correct and easily sung translations are most important, and very much reeded. 3. Conductor, Accompanist, and Organization of the Choir For a conductor, his devoted Christian leadership is more important than musical talent, but those who are better trained in music can do a more effective service. Accompanists must realize that they are not soloists, but those who must follow the direction of the Conductor. For choir members, their educational backgrounds, careers and appealing qualities are all important but are notcritical factors, because strong faith is the principle in worship of God. 4. The Rehearsal According to the survey, 53.8% of women's choirs believe that the two hours of practice, prior to and after worship, are not enough for good performance, especially when compared with the usual four hours of rehearsal for Mixed-voice choirs. A choir is supposed to have more than a mixed quartette for satisfactory harmony. To compensate for any lack in women's voices, more rehearsals and greater efforts are required. 5. Editing, Copying, and Care of Music It is a shameful thing that the importance of anthems for women's choirs has been overlooked. Inept and awkward editing appears to indicate lack of interest even in that which is provided. It leads to confusion and discomfort for choir members. When anthem books are poorly edited it eventually results in loss of time, money and spirit. For batter care of music, choir books are needed, rather than printed or xeroxed copies of many pieces. 6. Future Trends in Musical Composition For regular worship services, it is suggested that easier anthems be composed. For special services, church festivals and other annual events, it is better to have more spectacular, grand and superb works, even though they migt be difficult to learn. More attention should be paid to composing rather than arranging anthems for mixed voices. Korean women composers' positive participation in this movement in the creation of works for women's choirs in a national style is the key.
